Performance Enhancement and Recovery Method of Open Cathode PEMFC (오픈 캐소드형 고분자전해질 연료전지의 성능향상과 회복기법)

  • An air cooling, open cathode type polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has the advantages of system simplification and cost effectiveness. Open cathode PEMFC could suffer from reduced performance due to the membrane dehydration in low humidity of air. Effects of the cathode air flow rate, anode purge interval and long term storage on PEMFC performance were investigated in this work. Fan voltage is an important factor on air cooling PEMFC performance because the cathode air flow rate and stack temperature were controlled by fan voltage. The dead ended anode (DEA) method was applied to increase hydrogen usage. Periodical purge was used to discharge accumulated water and gas. The influence of long term non-operating condition on PEMFC performance degradation due to the membrane dehydration was also studied and the quick recovery method was developed.

Analysis of Volatile Flavor Compounds in Cow's Milk by Purge & Trap Method (Purge & Trap 법에 의한 국내산 우유 중의 휘발성 향기성분 분석)

  • Purge & Trap method was applied to perform more simple and rapid detection for analysis of volatile flavor compounds in milk. Maximal sampling of 30 mL milk for glass flask sparger was treated by He gas purging for 2 hours. Reported major volatile compounds were detected by GC-MS after 2 hours absorption and desorbed from Purge & Trap equipped with Tenax trap. Volatile flavor compounds were analyzed by Purge & Trap and GC-MS to investigate the changes of flavor components in milk between raw and deodorized milk. Fourteen volatile compounds including acetaldehyde, ethanol, 2-propanone, dimethyl sulfide, isobutanal, 3-methyl 2-butanone, 2-butanone, 3-methyl butanal, pentanal, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, methyl disulfide, hexanal, and 2 others were detected. Six compounds such as ethanol, dimethyl sulfide, pentanal, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, and methyl disulfide were completely eliminated after deodorization treatment. Four compounds such as 3-methyl 2-butanone, 2-butanone, 3-methyl butanal, and an unknown compound 81 (M/sup +/) were also decreased after raw milk was deodorized. The other four compounds such as acetaldehyde, 2-propanone, hexanal, and an unknown compound (M/sup +/) were not decreased.

The Effect of Acupuncture Treated by Tonification and Sedation Manipulation at LI4 and KI7 on Lacking of Sweating in Cold Environment(II) (합곡(合谷) 복류(復溜) 보사(補瀉) 시술(施術)이 소한(少汗)에 미치는 영향(影響)(II))

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of tonifying or sedative manipulation on LI4 and KI7 for sweet deficiency under cold environment. Methods : The participants were divided into 4 groups; intact group without acupuncture(Intact), acupuncture group inserting straightly with LI4 & KI7 method((LI4-straight KI7-straight), acupuncture group inserting twisting with LI4 tonificaton & KI7 tonificaton method(LI4-tonify KI7-tonify) and acupuncture group inserting twisting with LI4 sedation & KI7 sedation method(LI4-purge KI7-purge). We obtained the baseline data under cold condition with the temperature $14{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. After making the participant staying under cold condition for 10 minute, we measured sweating rate on skin surface and biological responses such as body temperature, oxygen saturation, pulse rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, deoxy-Hb and oxy-Hb in subcutaneous. Results : The sweating rate on skin surface was not different in all treatment groups compared to the intact group. The body temperature was significantly increased in LI4-straight KI7-straight group compared to the intact group. The oxygen saturation significantly increased in LI4-purge KI7-purge group compared to the intact group. The systolic blood pressure was significantly increased in LI4-purge KI7-purge group compared to the intact group. The deoxy-Hb was significantly decreased in LI4-purge KI7-purge group compared to the intact group. Conclusions : The above results, the effect of LI4, KI7 acupuncture due to the tonifying or sedative manipulation on sweating control could be observed. However, other biological responses with the acupuncture of tonifying or sedative manipulation were giving different expressions. We suggest that continued research of tonifying or sedative manipulation is of importance order to find these expressions.

Volatile Components of Pine Needle(Pinus densiflora S.) by Purge and Trap Headspace (Purge and Trap Headspace 법에 의한 솔잎(Pinus densiflora S.)의 휘발성 성분)

  • Volatile components of pine needle(Pinus densiflora S.) were isolated by purge & trap headspace technique and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). And then volatile components were extracted for 2 hr and 20 hr at the two different temperature settings: room temperature and 60$^{\circ}C$. A total of 61 volatile components were identified by the four different conditions. These compounds are classified into six categories in terms of chemical functionality: 35 hydrocarbons, 16 alcohols, 4 carbonyls, 2 esters, 1 acid and 3 ethers. The major components were ${\alpha}$-pinene(1.5~15.7%), ${\beta}$-myrcene(13.2~15.6%), ${\beta}$-phellandrene(l2.0~16.0%) and cis-3-hexenol(4.0~18.3%). In the comparison of the four extraction conditions, longer extraction can be effective to extract components that have a high boiling point, but proved useless in obtaining low boiling point components. As a result of these experiments under the four different conditions, the 20 hr extraction at room temperature appeared to be the most optimized condition for the analysis of volatile compounds by using the purge & trap headspace technique.

Characteristics of Volatile Components from Magnolia ovobata Thunb. by Different Analysis Methods

  • This study was carried out to establish an optimum method for identifying the volatile components of Magnolia ovobata Thunb. using the dynamic headspace (Purge & Trap) and simultaneous distillation and extraction (SDE) method. Between the two different identification analysis, the volatile components were more easily detected in the SDE than the Purge & Trap method. Among the identified volatile components, the 12 compounds were detected to have similar retention times and match quality within the 45 minutes in both identification methods. The maximum values of the major volatile components were detected differently by SDE and (Purge & Trap) method such as ${\alpha}-pinene$ (3.4, 18.2%), ${\beta}-pinene$ (3.5, 10.3%), l-limonene (5.2, 15.4%). These results indicated that the Dynamic Headspace (Purge & Trap) was much more reliable method for identifying the volatile components of Magnolia ovobata Thunb. as compared to the SDE method.

  • 슈퍼컴퓨터는 대용량의 데이터를 효율적으로 관리하기 위해 Lustre 파일 시스템과 같은 고성능의 병렬 파일 시스템을 이용한다. 한국과학기술정보연구원의 슈퍼컴퓨터 4호기 Tachyon 2차 시스템과 같이 다수의 사용자가 접속하는 슈퍼컴퓨터는 사용자의 데이터가 한없이 누적됨으로 Lustre 파일 시스템의 성능이 저하되는 이슈가 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자의 데이터가 누적되는 것을 방지하기 위해 장기간 사용하지 않는 데이터를 자동 삭제하는 기능인 Purge기능을 구현하였다. 특히, 기하급수적으로 늘어나는 병렬 파일 시스템의 용량에 대처하기 위해 병렬 컴퓨팅 기술을 이용해 고속 Purge 기능을 구현하였다. 단일 컴퓨팅 노드와 병렬 환경에서 구현한 결과를 비교하였을 때, 단일 컴퓨팅 노드에서는 1,517GB 용량을 지우는데 221.2초가 걸렸으며 16개의 컴퓨팅 노드를 이용한 병렬 환경에서는 49.9초가 걸렸다. 이 결과를 비교했을 때 단일 컴퓨팅 노드에서 구현한 결과 대비 병렬 환경에서 구현했을 때 약 4.4배의 성능향상을 얻을 수 있었다.

A Study on BTEX Concentration of Soil's Network in Seoul (서울의 토양측정망중 BTEX 농도 조사에 관한 연구)

  • The soil samples were measured at 90 sites of Soil's Network In 1997~1998 which was established for the investigation of soil contamination in Seoul. This study was more focused to measure and analyze for BTEX(Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene) concentration in the Soil Network. Also, the samples were analyzed by Purge & Trap method. As a result, the BTEX were detected at all sampling sites in Seoul. The Min. Max and Mean BTEX concentration were respectively 0.047mg/kg, 2.618mg/kg and 0.437mg/kg in 1998. The concentration of the BTEX detected at all sampling sites was lower than that of the intervention standards(at industrial areas) of Soil Preservation Act.

  • The feasibility of not employing recombiners rather using the postaccident Purge system alone to control hydrogen concentration in the containment following a LOCA, is analyzed in this paper. For this study, the hydrogen concentration in the containment, hydrogen removal through the purge system, and additional off-site dose due to hydrogen purge were calculated. The economic justification of a hydrogen recombiner system (2 recombiners) was also investigated by using the cost benefit concept. As a result, the purge system is sufficient to maintain the hydrogen concentration at a safe level without hydrogen recombiners, and it meets the dose limit requirements set forth in 10 CFR part 100. A hydrogen recombiner system would be justified based on cost-benefit concept for common use in a site with 4 units or more.

  • Different isolation methods for the volatile components of Anise(Pimpinella anisum L.) are compared in terms of the difference of components obtained with each analytical procedure. These methods include headspace(purge & trap) sampling procedure, simultaneous distillation extraction(SDE), steam distillation and solvent extraction. Total 43 components were identified by? comparing gas chromatography retention time and mass spectral data. Different isolation techniques result in compositionally different isolates. The headspace(purge & trap) sampling procedure was found to be the best method of choice for a qualitative analysis of the volatile components.
