  • Calpastatin (CAST), an endogenous inhibitor of the calpains, plays an important role in post-mortem tenderization of meat. The objectives of this study were to investigate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the bovine CAST gene and association with carcass and meat quality traits. A total of 212 cattle from commercial herds were tested in this study including 2 pure introduced breeds, 4 cross populations, and 3 pure Chinese native breeds. Five SNPs were identified at position 2959 (A/G), 2870 (G/A), 3088 (C/T), 3029 (G/A) and 2857 (C/T) in the CAST gene (GenBank Accession No. AF159246). Allele frequencies of SNP2959 and SNP2870 were 0.701 (A) and 0.462 (A), respectively. A general linear model was used to evaluate the associations between the two markers and 7 traits. The results showed that both SNP2959 and SNP2870 were significantly (p<0.01) associated with the Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF), while they had no significant association with the other 6 traits in the whole population. However, in Chinese native pure breeds, only SNP2870 had significant association with WBSF (p<0.05). The simultaneous analysis of two-marker genotype effects indicated animals containing the A/G haplotype (A for SNP2959 and G for SNP2870) tended to have lower shear force than those containing the G/A haplotype, and, especially, animals homozygous for the A/G haplotype had approximately 2 kg lower shear force than those homozygous for the G/A haplotype (p<0.01). These results suggested that both markers may be effective for the marker-assisted selection of meat quality traits in Chinese commercial herds, especially SNP2870 which can be used for Chinese native cattle.

  • Suppose G is a simple graph. The ${\ell}$-eigenvalues ${\delta}_1$, ${\delta}_2$,..., ${\delta}_n$ of G are the eigenvalues of its normalized Laplacian ${\ell}$. The normalized Laplacian Estrada index of the graph G is dened as ${\ell}EE$ = ${\ell}EE$(G) = ${\sum}^n_{i=1}e^{{\delta}_i}$. In this paper the basic properties of ${\ell}EE$ are investigated. Moreover, some lower and upper bounds for the normalized Laplacian Estrada index in terms of the number of vertices, edges and the Randic index are obtained. In addition, some relations between ${\ell}EE$ and graph energy $E_{\ell}$(G) are presented.

  • The respiratory burst oxidase of neutrophils is a multicomponent enzyme, domant in resting cells, that catalyzes the reduction of oxygen to $O_{2}^{-}$ at the expense of NADPH. In the resting neutrophil, some of the components of the oxidase, including proteins p47 and p67, are in the cytosol, while the rest are in the plasma membrane. Recent evidence has suggested that at least some of the cytosolic oxidase components exist as a complex. The cytosolic complex with a molecular weight of ~240 kDa was found to bind to blue-agarose and 2',5'-ADP-agarose, which recognize nucleotide requiring enzymes. In order to identify the nucleotide binding component of the cytosolic complex we purified recombinant p47 and p67 fusion proteins using the pGEX system. Pure recombinant p47 was retained completely on 2',5'-ADP-agarose, whereas pure recombinant p67 did not bind to these affinity beads. On the basis of these results, we infer that p47 may contain the nucleotide binding site.

  • We studied the characteristics of emissive state of the first (p-G1) and second (p-G2) generation of phenylacetylene dendrimers bearing stilbene as a core by using time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy in cyclohexane (c-Hex) and N, N-dimethylformide (DMF), which are nonpolar and polar solvents, respectively. Time-dependent red-shift of emission spectra p-G2 both in c-Hex and DMF was observed in comparison with p-G1. Besides, the time constant of red-shift of spectra was found to be larger in DMF than in c-Hex. This indicates that the emissive state of p-G2 has a polar character in DMF as a result of charge delocalization from core to peripheral dendrons followed by stabilization of emissive state.

  • Many kinds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been developed for a few decades and some of them are now in operational use. Although each UAV as well as a piloted aircraft might have restrictions to execute some tasks simultaneously or to carry some payloads, one with an automatic chase aircraft might have the potential of multi-capabilities to conduct a variety of missions or to carry more storages. This paper introduces a chase UAV control system to enhance a leader (reference) aircraft capability which has storage restriction. The automatic chase guidance and control system will be introduced with the pure pursuit guidance law combined with relative velocity error corrections, and a dynamic inversion technique in order to generate the guidance forces.

  • It is well-known that quasi-$Pr{\ddot{u}}fer$ domains are characterized as those domains D, such that every extension of D inside its quotient field is a primitive extension and that primitive extensions are characterized in terms of INC-extensions. Let $R={\bigoplus}_{{\alpha}{{\in}}{\Gamma}}$ $R_{\alpha}$ be a graded integral domain graded by an arbitrary torsionless grading monoid ${\Gamma}$ and ${\star}$ be a semistar operation on R. The main purpose of this paper is to give new characterizations of gr-${\star}$-quasi-$Pr{\ddot{u}}fer$ domains in terms of graded primitive and INC-extensions. Applications include new characterizations of UMt-domains.

  • Let $G{\leq}S_n$ and ${\chi}$ be any nonzero complex valued function on G. We first study the irreducibility of the generalized matrix polynomial $d^G_{\chi}(X)$, where $X=(x_{ij})$ is an n-by-n matrix whose entries are $n^2$ commuting independent indeterminates over $\mathbb{C}$. In particular, we show that if $\mathcal{X}$ is an irreducible character of G, then $d^G_{\chi}(X)$ is an irreducible polynomial, where either $G=S_n$ or $G=A_n$ and $n{\neq}2$. We then give a necessary and sufficient condition for the equality of two generalized matrix functions on the set of the so-called ${\chi}$-singular (${\chi}$-nonsingular) matrices.

  • Let R be a ring, (S,${\leq}$) a strictly ordered monoid and ${\omega}$ : S ${\rightarrow}$ End(R) a monoid homomorphism. The skew generalized power series ring R[[S,${\omega}$]] is a common generalization of (skew) polynomial rings, (skew) power series rings, (skew) Laurent polynomial rings, (skew) group rings, and Mal'cev-Neumann Laurent series rings. In this paper, we investigate the interplay between the ring-theoretical properties of R[[S,${\omega}$]] and the graph-theoretical properties of its zero-divisor graph ${\Gamma}$(R[[S,${\omega}$]]). Furthermore, we examine the preservation of diameter and girth of the zero-divisor graph under extension to skew generalized power series rings.

  • Let R be a ring, ($S,{\leq}$) a strictly ordered monoid, and ${\omega}:S{\rightarrow}End(R)$ a monoid homomorphism. In [18], Mazurek, and Ziembowski investigated when the skew generalized power series ring $R[[S,{\omega}]]$ is a domain satisfying the ascending chain condition on principal left (resp. right) ideals. Following [18], we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on R, S and ${\omega}$ such that the skew generalized power series ring $R[[S,{\omega}]]$ is a right or left Archimedean domain. As particular cases of our general results we obtain new theorems on the ring of arithmetical functions and the ring of generalized power series. Our results extend and unify many existing results.

  • Let R and S be two commutative rings, J be an ideal of S and f : R → S be a ring homomorphism. The amalgamation of R and S along J with respect to f, denoted by R ⋈f J, is the special subring of R × S defined by R ⋈f J = {(a, f(a) + j) | a ∈ R, j ∈ J}. In this paper, we study some basic properties of a special kind of R ⋈f J-modules, called the amalgamation of M and N along J with respect to , and defined by M ⋈ JN := {(m, (m) + n) | m ∈ M and n ∈ JN}, where  : M → N is an R-module homomorphism. The new results generalize some known results on the amalgamation of rings and the duplication of a module along an ideal.
