Copper magnetron anode of a microwave-oven consists of an cylindrical outer-tube and various inner-vanes. The magnetron anode is produced by the complex process ; vane blanking, pipe cutting and sliver-alloy brazing of vanes. Recently, the backward extrusion process for forming vanes has been developed to avoid the complex procedures. The developed process is analyzed by using upper-bound elemental technique(UBET). In the UBET analysis, the upper-bound load, the configuration and the vane-height of final extruded product are determined by minimizing the total power consumption with respect to chosen parameters. To verify theoretical analysis, experiments have been carried out with pure plasticine billets at room temperature, using different web-thickness and number of vanes. The theoretical predictions both for forming load and vane-height are in reasonable agreement with the experimental results.
Nano Cu powders, synthesized by Pulsed Wire Evaporation (PWE) method, have been compacted by Magnetic Pulsed Cojpaction(MPC) method. The microstructure and mechanical properties were analyzed. The optimal condition for proper mechanical properties with nanostructure was found. Both pure nano Cu powders and passivated nano Cu powders were compacted, and the effect of passivated layer on the mechanical properties was investigated. The compacts by MPC, which had ultra-fine and uniform nanostructure, showed higher density of 95% of theoretical density than that of static compaction. The pur and passivated Cu compacted at $300^{\circ}C$ exhibited maximum hardnesses of 248 and 260 Hv, respectively. The wear resistance of those compacts corresponded to the hardness.
Pure copper, Cu-1.1wt%Cd and ACSR(Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) have been used as catenary materials of the electric railway system. Since these materials may be exposed to the corrosive environments like polluted air, acid rain and sea water, it is important to investigate the corrosion rates in various corrosive environments. The aqueous corrosion characteristics of catenary materials in aerated acid, neutral and alkali solutions were studied by using immersion corrosion tests, electrochemical measurements and analytical techniques. In order to examine corrosion characteristics according to the dissolved oxygen content, pH, chloride ion concentration ion, and the addition of Cd to Cu, a series of tests such as potentiodynamic polarization, a.c impedance spectroscopy and galvanic corrosion tests were carried out with these materials. Results showed that the addition of Cd to Cu and chloride ion in the solution have an adverse effects on the resistance to corrosion. Additionally, Galvanic currents between Al and steel wires of ACSR were confirmed by using ZRA(zero resistance ammeter) method.

Resistance spot welding is commonly used for welding products of high quality because of clean welding and short w welding-time. But. conventional spot welders bring about the depreciation of welding products, iuespective of dynamic r resistance characteristics during welding time. This paper discussed dynamic resistance database implementation in t terms of welding performance improvement. On different welding conditions, we compared dynamic resistance, r respectively, about pure iron and Sn-Pb alloy on Copper. Also, it investigated the relation of tensile shear strength and d dynamic resistance in welded workpiece.
In the simultaneous forward-backward extrusion the effects of some process variables including area reduction, stroke advance, materials(Al 2024 and commercial pure copper) on the extrusion load, plastic flow and height ratio of upper to lower extruded parts are experimentally investigated and analyzed. Grid-marking technique is employed to visualize the plastic flow. The influence of using split and original specimen on the extrusion load and height ratio is evaluated by experiments. Experimental results show that the plastic flow if oriented to the part of lower area reduction in the begining but it is usually variated during the overall process. The configurations of plastic deformation and plastic flow are dependent on the working materials and the lubricational conditions.

Synthesis of ferromagnetic composite materials for the $Cu-BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ system by mechanical alloying (MA) has been investigated at room temperature. A mixture of copper and barium ferrite with a weight ratio of $Cu:BaFe_{12}O_{19}=4:1$, 3 : 2, 2 : 3 and 1 : 4 was used. It is found that $Cu-BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ composite powders in which $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ is dispersed in copper matrix are successfully produced by mechanical alloying of $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ with Cu for 80 min. in all composition. The change in X-ray diffraction patterns and magnetic properties reflects the details for the formation of ferromagnetic metal matrix composite of pure Cu and $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ during mechanical alloying. Magnetization of $Cu-BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ composite powders gradually increases with increasing the amounts of barium ferrite, whereas coercive force of MA powders gradually decreases due to the refinement of barium ferrite powders with ball milling. However, it can be seen that the coercivity of $Cu-BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ MA composite powders with a weight ratio of $Cu:BaFe_{12}O_{19}=4:1$ and 3 : 2 ball-milled for 80 min. is still high value of 1400 Oe and 1450 Oe, respectively suggesting that the refinement of barium ferrite powders during ball milling process tend to be suppressed due to the ductile copper.
In this paper, 23 Silla gold earrings from the sixth and seventhand centuries, excavated from the Yeongnam region, were analyzed. Based on the silver content of the gold plate, they were classified into three types. The classifications included type I(20-50wt%), type II(10-20wt%) and type III (less than 10wt%). In the analysis process, the composition and morphological differences were identified on the surface of the gold plate. In the case of type I and II earrings, it was observed that the fine holes were concentrated in a relatively higher part of the gold content. The causes of the difference in the surface composition of the gold plate were divided into four categories: 1) surface treatment, 2) thermal diffusivity in the manufacturing process, 3) differences in composition of alluvial gold, and 4) the refining method of gold. It is possible that depletion gilding was attempted to increase the gold content while intentionally removing the other metals from the surface of the gold alloy in the portion where the gold deposit is relatively concentrated on the surface of the gold plating. The highest copper content was detected in the earring with the highest gold content of the analyzed earrings, and it was assumed that thermal diffusion had occurred between the gold plate and the metal rod during the manufacturing process rather than intentional addition. Copper was detected only in the thin ring earring type, and copper was not detected in the thick ring earring type or pendant type. It also proves that this earring has a high degree of tightness at higher temperatures, as there was an invisible edge finish on other earrings and horizontal wrinkles on the gold plate surface. In terms of the material of the gold plate, we examined whether the silver content of the gold plate was natural gold or added by alloy through analyzing the alluvial gold collected in the region. As a result of the analysis, it was found that on average about 13wt% of silver is included. This suggests that type II is natural gold, type III is refined gold, and type I seems to have been alloyed with natural gold. Here, we investigated the refining method introduced in the ancient literature, both at home and abroad, about the possibility of alloying silver after the refining process of type III earrings and then making pure gold. It was found that from ancient refining methods, silver which had been present in the natural gold was removed by reacting and combining with silver chloride or silver sulfide, and long-term efforts and techniques were required to obtain pure gold through this method. Therefore, it was concluded that the possibility of adding a small amount of silver in order to increase strength after making pure gold through a refining process is low.
An attempt was made for the application of porous reticular metal to a heat dissipation material in semiconductor process. For this aim, the electrodeposition of Fe/Ni alloy on the porous reticular Cu has been performed to minimize the thermal expansion mismatch between Cu skeleton and electronic chip. Preliminary tests for the electrodeposition of Fe/Ni alloy layer were conducted by using standard Hull Cell to examine the effect of current density on the composition of alloy layer. It seemed that mass transfer affected significantly the composition of Fe/Ni layer due to anomalous codeposition in the electrodeposition of Fe/Ni alloy. A paddle type stirring bath, which was employed to control the mass transfer of electrolyte in the work, was found to allow the electrodeposition Fe/Ni with a precise composition. result showed that the thermal expansion of Fe/Ni alloy layer was much lower than that of pure copper. From the tests of heat dissipation by using the apparatus designed in the work the heat dissipation material fabricated in the work showed the excellent heat dissipation capacity, namely, more than two times as compared to that of pure copper plate.

In order to ultrasonically evaluate creep cavities pure copper samples were subjected to creep test and their microstructures were examined. Ultrasonic velocities. frequency-dependent magnitude spectra and attenuations were measured on a series of copper samples obtained from the different stages of creep test. Velocities measured in three directions with respect to the loading axis decreased and their anisotropy increased as a function of the creep-induced porosity. The anisotropic behavior could be attributed to the progressive change of pore shape and preferred orientation as the creep advanced. The 2% porosity by volume decreased the longitudinal and shear wave velocities by 11% and 4%, respectively. Furthermore, both velocities decreased nonlinearly with the porosity. As the creep damage developed, the magnitude spectra lost high frequency components and their central frequencies shifted to lower values. The attenuation showed almost linear behavior in the frequency range used. Normalized velocity, central frequency shift and attenuation slope were selected as nondestructive evaluation parameters. These results were presented and showed good relations with the porosity content.
When aiming for an increased and more sustainable use of metals a thorough knowledge of the corrosion phenomenon as function of the local metal microstructure is of crucial importance. In this work, we summarize the information presented in our previous publications[1-3] and present an overview of the different local (electrochemical) techniques that have been proven to be effective in studying the relation between different microstructural variables and their different electrochemical behavior. Atomic force microscopy (AFM)[1], scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM)[2], and electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (EC-STM)[3] were used in combination with electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Consequently, correlations could be identified between the grain orientation and grain boundary characteristics, on the one hand, and the electrochemical behavior on the other hand. The grain orientation itself has an influence on the corrosion, and the orientation of the neighboring grains also seems to play a decisive role in the dissolution rate. With respect to intergranular corrosion, only coherent twin boundaries seem to be resistant.
