  • In this research, we analyze the effects of price discounts and scarcity message (both quantity limitation message and time limitation message) on the purchase intention in the smart-phone environment. The purchase intention becomes higher at high discount rate and with scarcity message (both quantity limitation message and time limitation message). We also analyze the moderating effects of consumer's shopping value and distance between the consumer and the store on the effects of price discounts and scarcity message (both quantity limitation message and time limitation message) on the purchase intention. On average, the effects of price discount, time limitation message and quantity limitation message on the purchase intention become the highest levels for consumers pursuing hedonic shopping value. The effects of price discount, time limitation message and quantity limitation message on the purchase intention become higher when they are offered within a short distance between the coupon provider and the target customer.

Research design, data and methodology: Data were collected through an online questionnaire from 419 people aged 54 to 64 years in South Korea and the hypotheses were examined using structural equation modeling. Results: Our results indicated that middle-aged and older consumers who have expanded future time perspective have higher intention to purchase masstige brands and their functional value and symbolic value of masstige brands were found to mediate future time perspective and intention to purchase masstige brands. Conclusions: The findings offer insights into masstige brand consumption by older South Korean consumers that may be useful for both academics and marketers.

  • This paper tries to find out how a household's purchase probability and purchase time changes as time passes. Previous studies show that a highly educated family with high income, which is usually an early adopter in a new product adoption, tends to be an early adopter of DTV. On the contrary, in the dynamic sense of diffusion, this study shows that an average household's purchase probability would become higher and its purchase time would come sooner than later, as price falls sharply. As time passes, it turns out that DTV is becoming a necessary good rather than a luxury good. Thus, in the future, either a household's popuation characteristics or information on new product are not expected to affect the probability of a household's purchasing DTV.

  • Based on increased popularity and use of social network services as a marketing tool, social commerce became an emerging trend in e-commerce platforms. Social commerce involves sellers offering potential consumers the products and services at a lower price in a limited time period. Through comparison of the performances of domestic social commerce websites, we found that the buying environment such as price, number of available products, and the remaining time period for sale has a significant difference influencing on the purchase decisions of consumers. This study aims to analyze the interaction effects and preference levels of four characteristics (price, discount rate, number of purchases and purchase time) by conducting choice-based conjoint analysis. Survey experiment was performed using a sample of 146 undergraduate and graduate students. The results showed that consumers importantly consider purchase time, discount rate, price, number of purchases in the order of their preference. Also, discount effect is more significant on purchase decisions than price effect and consumers distinguish less the differences among the buying environment characteristics in the closing days of purchase period. Customer segmentation using the preference levels of characteristics indicates that the preference levels have different effects in the purchase utility of each segment. The proposed customer segmentation and differences in feature utilities are expected to be valuable in forming future sales promotion strategies in social commerce.

  • In this paper, we posit that time-related effects (i.e., the importance of saving time) on patronage preference for shopping online will be moderated by consumer characteristics. To explore these moderating effects, we empirically examine the moderating roles of consumer characteristics on the respective effects of shopping-time-saved and delivery on online purchase preference. On the basis of analyses performed on data gleaned from an Internet-based survey, this study demonstrate that time effects related to both shopping-time-saved and delivery on online purchase preference are more pronounced for consumers who are male, young, and more starved for time. In addition, the effect of delivery time on online patronage preference is amplified by disposable income, but attenuated by online shopping experience. Through our analyses, we also find that Japanese consumers value delivery time to a greater degree than Chinese and American consumers do.

Data analysis were carried out using SAS package. Statistics used for data analysis were Cronbach'$\alpha$, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression. The results were summarized as follows : First, college student consumers in general are favorable to the internet shopping. The variable that has significant influence on the attitude toward the internet shopping was the web searching competence. • Purpose - This paper examines how the consumer animosity of partner country influences the purchase of foreign products. We analyzed news sentiment to determine whether Chinese consumer's animosity affect the purchase of the products made in Korea around the time when the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile system was deployed in South Korea. Design/methodology - To measure the tone of Chinese consumer animosity more carefully, we utilized a text mining technique of the Chinese language to read the public's opinion. Using Chinese news paper's editorials of 2015.1-2018.10, we analyzed the sentiment toward Korea and regressed it with Korean export to China. Findings - Empirical results report that Chinese consumers tended to reduce their purchase of consumer goods from Korea when the animosity increased, that is, the sentiments of Chinese news editorials were negative. In contrast, the animosity did not affect the purchase of Korean intermediates or raw materials. We further analyzed the effect by dividing the animosity into three categories; politics, economics, and culture. Among these groups, political news exhibits a unique effect on Chinese purchase on consumer goods from Korea. Originality/value - Existing literature on animosity models has measured the animosity by collecting the consumers' opinions through survey at a given time point, whereas it is measured by analyzing the tone of the press release by sentiment analysis during the time period around the event occurrence in this study.

  • Purpose: Social networking services have been recognized as an attractive distribution channel at a time when efforts to deliver effective messages to consumers are essential amid a flood of advertisements in the multi-media era. In that sense, this study investigated the effect of the scarcity message type (limited-time vs. limited-quantity) and sender type (corporate vs. consumer) on the intention to purchase golf equipment by Instagram distribution channel. Research design, data and methodology: Data from 108 college students in their 20s and 30s with experience using Instagram were collected online through convenience sampling. A frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent sample t-test, and two-way analysis of variance were performed using SPSS 23.0. Results: The results showed that limited-quantity messages induce a higher purchase intention than limited-time messages. Similarly, consumer-sent advertisements induce a higher purchase intention than corporate-sent advertisements. Further, there is no statistically significant interaction effect of the scarcity message type and sender type on the intention to purchase golf equipment. Conclusions: This study is meaningful in verifying consumers' purchase intention depending on the type of scarcity message and the type of sender in Instagram advertisements. The results yield significant implications for marketers and several directions for future research.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among the consumer's sensation seeking tendency needs of clothing purchase and clothing purchase behavior. The date were obtained from 461 female university students career women and housewives using questionnaire. Consumers were classified into low and high sensation seeking tendency groups. These two groups showed partially significant difference in the needs of clothing purchase. Consumers with higher sensation seeking tendency had higher tendency of impulse buying. And they were likely to show the pleasure dimension of needs of clothing purchase and the pleasure seeking and the time seeking factors of shopping behavior Also they had higher purchase frequency of clothing than those who had lower sensation seeking tendency. Consumers with lower sensation seeking tendency placed more importance on the utilitarian dimension of the needs of clothing purchase and the price and quality of products in shopping.

  • Purchase dependence is a frequent phenomenon in retail shops and is characterized by the purchase of certain items together due to their unknown interior associations. Although this concept has been significantly examined in the marketing field (e.g. market basket analysis), it has largely remained unaddressed in operations management. Since purchase dependence is an important factor in designing inventory replenishment policies, this paper demonstrates the means of applying it to the partial backordering inventory model. Through computational analyses, this paper compares the performance of inventory models that either consider or ignore purchase dependence; the results demonstrate that inventory models that ignore purchase dependence incur more average cost per unit time than the model that considers purchase dependence, and the impact of purchase dependence can increase in significance as the item set becomes more closely correlated with regard to order demand.
