  • An experimental study was performed on the collision nozzle system that generates microbubble by air self-suction using a venturi nozzle. This study experimentally investigates the pressure of a pump and a dissolution tank, water flow rate, air self-suction amount and microbubble generation amount. The experimental conditions were varied by changing the diameter of the collision nozzle (de=4,5,6,7,8mm), the pumping power(0.5hp, 1.0hp) and the capacity of the dissolution tank(4.4L, 8/8L). The pressure change of the pump according to the outlet diameter of the collision nozzle showed that the 1.0hp pump power operated more stably than the 0.5hp pump. The pressure change in the dissolution tank was shown to decrease rapidly as the outlet diameter of the nozzle increased. The flow rate of recirculating water was shown to increase as the nozzle diameter increased. Additionally, it was shown that the pump capacity of 1.0hp increased the flow rate more than that of 0.5hp. The self-suction air flow rate was shown to occur above de=6mm, and the air flow rate increased as the nozzle diameter increased. Also, as the pump capacity increased, the self-suction amount of air increased. It was shown that the amount of microbubble less than 50mm generated was maximum when the nozzle diameter was 6mm, the pump power was 1.0hp, and the dissolution tank capacity was 8.8L.

  • This study was carried out in order to estimate the effect of heat pump performance by use of thermal tank with 3 seperation plates which were able to divide thermal tank into 3 chambers that have different temperatures levels. For testing the effect of developed thermal tank which was installed for supplying the heat to the paprika greenhouse in Jinju city. The volume of thermal storage tank was designed for $110m^3$ which was able to cover 30% of heating capacity. The temperature difference was 3 degree Celcius between high temperature and low temperature when only heating circulation was made from heat pump to thermal tank. but 5.5 degree Celcius difference was made when heating circulation of heat pump to thermal thank and hot water supplying circulation of thermal tank to greenhouse was done simultaneously. As a result of this study showed that COP of heat pump was increased by 15% or more than that of using normal thermal tank because heat pump was able to take 3 ~ 5 degree Celcius lower thermal thank water constantly.

  • To analyze and verify the effect of replacing thermal storage heater by a cascade cycle heat pump using midnight electricity was installed and tested at a customer's house in Wonju, Korea. The electric night storage heater is consist of 30kW electric heater and 2,700 liters of thermal storage water tank to supply hot water for warming house floor. The power for electric heater was cut off and hot water was only generated by cascade cycle heat pump. Current thermal storage water tank was not eliminated and electric heater wiring was modified. Some operation logic of the heat pump was also modified for proper operation. The required capacity of the heat pump and hot water temperature for given warming condition were estimated. The estimated capacity of heat pump was about 19kW and estimated hot water temperature for proper heating was at least $75^{\circ}C$.

  • Air-source heat pumps are widely used in residential heating systems. However, the decrease in the capacity of the heat pump is unavoidable when operating at very low and high ambient temperatures. The vapor injection technique is considered a promising technology to overcome this problem. Recent research on vapor injection cycles have mainly adopted a scroll compressor with an internal heat exchanger at severe operating conditions. This study measured the COP and EER of a gas injection heat pump using a flash tank with an inverter-driven rotary compressor at severe operating conditions. Compared to non-injection heat pumps, the heating capacity and COP of the gas injection heat pump improved up to 15% and 2.9%, respectively, at outdoor temperatures of $-10^{\circ}C$ to $7^{\circ}C$. The cooling capacity of the gas injection heat pump was 11% higher than the non-injection heat pump at an outdoor temperature of $35^{\circ}C$. At the same time, the EER of the gas injection heat pump was similar to that of the non-injection heat pump.

  • Recently, various studies have been conducted to optimize the pump operation scheduling and/or the pump/tank size minimizing the system cost of water distribution network. Prior to that, it is important to understand the sensitivity of pump/tank size on the system cost and overall water quality. Here, we have performed the sensitivity analysis to investigate the effect of pump/tank size on the economic cost (construction and operation) and water quality (water age). The analysis was applied on a real, large-scale water transmission network currently operating in South Korea. The results revealed that the pump/tank size has a strong influence on system construction/operation costs. Especially, the tank size has a significant effect on the system-wide water quality. In the case of applied networks, the operating cost decreases as the capacity of the facility increases, but the design cost increases. Using a sensitivity analysis, a suitable range of pump/tank size could be suggested to minimize costs and stabilize the water quality at the same time prior to a system design.

  • This study deals with the maximum thermal load analysis and optimal capacity determination method of tank culture system for applying seawater source heat pump to save energy and realize zero energy. The location of the fish farm was divided into four sea areas, and the heat load in summer and winter was analyzed, respectively. In addition, two representative methods, the flow-through aquaculture system and the recirculation aquaculture system were reviewed as water treatment methods for fish farms. In addition, the concept of the exchange rate was introduced to obtain the maximum heat load of the fish farms. Finally, power consumption for heat pumps was analyzed in the view point of sea areas, tank capacity, and exchange rate based on the calculated maximum thermal load.

  • Greenhouses should be heated during nights and cold days in order to fit growth conditions in greenhouses. Ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems are recognized to be outstanding heating and cooling systems. A horizontal GSHP system with thermal storage tank was installed in greenhouse and investigated the performance characteristics. The reasons for using thermal storage tank were discussed in detail. Thermal storage tank can provide heat for heating load that is larger than GSHP system heating capacity. The results of study showed that the heating coefficient of performance of the heat pump system was 2.69.

  • The leakage accident from a storage tank in an oil refinery plant occurred in April 2014 and the total loss is KRW 18 billion. This accident has prompted many companies to develop their own mitigation system to minimize the loss of the leakage accident. The aim of this study is to design the temporary storage facility system for dealing with leakage accidents. The basic concept of this system is that the leakage fluid of a hazardous material flows into a temporary storage tank and this is transferred to a spare tank by a pump as avoiding the overflow of a temporary storage tank. In order to design this system, the leakage velocity and quantity according to time series should be evaluated. In addition, a proper pump capacity should be determined to avoid repeating the pump switching on and off frequently. In this study, the benzene tank is selected to verify the efficacy of this system. This study can play a critical role to provide a guideline for designing a new system.

  • This study was conducted for analysis of a heat pump system using waste heat in an enclosed space such as a green house. The model was developed with mathematical equations in literature and Engineering Equation Solver (EES) was used to get the solution of the developed equations. The simulation results have 5% of reliability comparing the results with actual test data of heat pump system's dynamic operation. The operating performance of the system was calculated with variation of working fluid temperature in the thermal storage tank such as $25^{\circ}C$, $35^{\circ}C$, $45^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$. As a result, the system's the highest total heating capacity shows 280 kWh and the storage tank's operating time decreased as the starting storage tank's temperature was high.

  • The heat pump water heater developed in this research consisted of one evaporator, one compressor, 1st condenser, 2nd condenser, one expansion valve, one water tank, one recirculation circuit and etc. The performance of heat pump water heater was tested and analyzed. The quantities of output water changed linearly from 2380 to $660{\ell}/h$, and the output water temperature changed curvedly from 29.9 to $44.5^{\circ}C$ when the opening rate of recirculation valve changed from 0 to 100%. The COP of heat pump water heater increased from 3.0 to 3.8 when the quantities of output water changed from 660 to $2380{\ell}/h$. When the temperature distributions of water tank were measured during 50 minutes after turning on the heat pump, the temperature stratification by the level appeared apparently. When the inlet water temperature changed from 30 to$50^{\circ}C$, the output energy of heat pump hardly changed. The surface area of double pipe heat exchanger changed from 0.429 to $6.254m^2$ when the compressor capacity increased from 1.0 to 50.0 PS.
