Effect of Volute Area Distributions on the Performance Characteristic Curve of a Centrifugal Pump (볼류트 단면적 변화가 원심펌프의 성능곡선에 미치는 영향)

  • In this paper, the effect of volute area distribution on the performance characteristic curve of a centrifugal pump were numerically studied using a commercial CFD code. To reduce the shutoff head, maintaining head and efficiency at a design flow rate, the flat head-capacity characteristic curves in which the head varies only slightly with capacity from shutoff to design capacity are frequency required. In order to control the shutoff head of a pump, several volute area distributions were proposed as a main parameter with the same impeller geometry. The calculation results show that the characteristic curve of a centrifugal pump can be controlled by modifying the area distribution with the same volute outlet area.

  • Specific hydrodynamic characteristic of pump-turbine during the start and load rejection process of generating mode causes anomalous increase of water pressure, along with large machine vibration, called "S" characteristic. The aim of this study is to understand and explain the hydrodynamic performance of pump-turbine at "S" characteristic region by using a model of pump-turbine system. The operation in the condition of runway and low discharge in a typical "S" characteristic curve may become unstable and complex flow appears at the passage of guide vane and impeller. Therefore, velocity and pressure distribution are investigated to give an all-sided explanation of the formation and phenomenon of this characteristic, with the assistance of velocity triangle analysis at the impeller inlet. From this study, the internal flow and pressure fluctuation at the normal, runway and low discharge points are explored, giving a deep description of hydrodynamic characteristic when the pump-turbine system operates with "S" characteristic.

  • As the results of analysis that are applying a heat pump using underground water as heat source of facility horticulture house, temperature change in house, growth of cultivated plants and the crop characteristic, the conclusion can be acquired as follows. It was possible to maintain the chamber temperature through operating heat pump with setting goal temperature at $16^{\circ}C$ and temperature variation at ${\pm}3^{\circ}C$. And cooling and heating coefficient of performance in heat pump system are different from setting room temperature and operation condition of equipment, totally in case that the setting temperature in house is low, the coefficient of performance and the in case that temperature departure is low. In case that the house does not heated, the result of the growth characteristic of cucumber planted last 50days is that cucumber grown in house equipped with heat pump is the most favorable growth characteristic due to maintaining a constant room temperature. After 90 days, the quantity and weight cucumber harvested in each house are averagely 9.8%, 13.1% increase and more heavy weight respectively. So it is researched that crop characteristic is superior.

  • For regenerative pump performance test we made 5 times enlarged and 3 different kinds blade types impeller with similarity. Due to geometrical characteristic of regenerative pump, there are two kinds of groups which effect on performance of it. One is geometric shape of impeller blade and the other is clearance and inlet/outlet head loss. To study performance of regenerative pump with impeller shape changes, we tested it with reducing clearance. And we reconcile performance data in the case of zero clearance and zero inlet/outlet head loss. Finally we could verify the influence of each group.

  • An improved performance characteristics analysis model of a regenerative pump is proposed in the present paper. For its low characteristic speed, a regenerative pump generates high head with low flow rate. However, the efficiency is fairly low due to the skin friction between impeller and casing. Also, the complexity of its internal flow pattern makes prediction of performance characteristics difficult. In the present research, a one-dimensional analysis model was improved with consideration of disc friction loss, minor loss, and modified flow length, and the result was proven to be close in range with the results from experiments.

  • According as diesel automobile are produced, reduce noise and vibration that is occurred by characteristic of diesel engine, and need engine room layout optimization and research for light weight of parts. Balance Shaft Module is module parts for vehicles engine to improve performance and efficiency of engine and reduce noise and vibration. These days, an oil pump integrated balance shaft module and an oil sump integrated balance shaft module is on the rising for optimizing of engine room. In this study, produced prototype of oil pump integrated type balance shaft module, and achieved dynamic characteristic test about experimental modal analysis and noise/vibration of balance shaft module.

  • The river water heat source heat pump has the advantage in the performance compared to air source heat pump. In this study, an experimental study on a 2-stage heat pump, which is designed to utilize a river water heat source, were carried out. Generally, a heat pump is designed for maximum capacity rate, but it actually operates at part load condition in most cases. Therefore, an information on the part-load characteristic is very important in view of the system overall performance. In this study, part-load performance tests of a R134a 2-stage compression heat pump were carried out over the river water and supply heating water temperature changes.
