  • Ferroelectric thin film capacitors with high dielectric constant are important for the application of memory devices. In this work, thin films of PLT(28)(Pb$\sub$0.72/La$\sub$0.28/Ti$\sub$0.93/O$_3$) were fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrates in-situ annealing and ex-situ annealing have been compared depending on the annealing time. We have systematically investigated the variation of grain sizes depending on the condition of post-annealing and the variation of deposition rate. C-V measurement, ferroelectric properties, leakage current and SEM were performed to investigate the electrical properties and the microstructural properties of Pb(La,Ti)O$_3$.

  • Dielectric thin films of $(Pb_{0.72}La_{0.28})Ti_{0.93}O_3$ were deposited on $Pt(111)/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrates in situ by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) and annealed with different gases which are forming gas and oxygen gas, respectively. The diffusion of hydrogen into the ferroelectric film was caused by annealing process and resulted in the destruction of polarization. The dielectric properties of forming gas annealed PLT thin films, which are dielectric constant, ferroelectric characteristic, and leakage current characteristics, were degraded

  • The ice coats are built on 25 kV overhead contact wire when the temperature is lower than $0^{\circ}C$. It generates shockwaves at the mechanical interface of the collecting strips of the pantograph and the contact wire. The de-icing processes should be performed to avoid shockwaves which are generated by a pulsed high-voltage arc discharge. This paper presents temperature analysis of the de-icing effects which could be applied to the overhead contact wire of railways using Joule heat. The results show that 350 A is the proper current for $0^{\circ}C$ conductor according to environmental condition such as velocity of air stream, ambient temperature and moisture.

  • We have designed the backward wave oscillator. A power-pulsed generator oscillated at 24 GHz has higher frequency than current one. It is very inportant to prevent microwave from going into the beam diode, since intence microwave will harmfully affect beam generation. Due to the axial mode operation, there exist a critial value of beam energy for the oscillation. By changing the condition at the SWS end, an enhanced performance of the K-band oversized BWO is observed in a low magnetic field region about 0.8T.

  • The pulsed Nd:YAG laser is the most commonly used type of solid-state laser in many fields. In material processing and medical treatment, the power density control of a laser beam Considered to be significant, which depends on the flashlamp current pulse width and pulse repetition rate. For general laser power supply to control the laser power density, the secondary of the power transformer is connected to the rectifier and filter capacitor. The output of a rectifier is applied to a switching element in the secondary of the transformer. So power supply is complicated and the loss of switching is considerably. In addition, according to increasing pulse repetition rate, charged energy of energy-storage capacitor bank is not transferred sufficiently to flashlamp, and laser output efficiency decreases. In this study, we have ...

  • Laser processing using holograms can greatly improve processing speed, by spatially distributing the laser energy on the target material. However, it is difficult to reconstruct an image with arrays of closely spaced spots for laser processing, because the specklelike interference pattern prevents the spots from getting close to each other. To resolve this problem, a line target was divided in two, reconstructed with orthogonally polarized beams, and then superposed. Their optical reconstruction was performed by computer-generated holograms and a pulsed laser. With this method, we performed two-dimensional (2D) laser drilling of polyimide film, with a kerf width of $20{\mu}m$ and a total processing length of 20 mm.

  • Optical stimulation provides a promising alternative to electrical stimulation to selectively modulate tissue. However, developing noninvasive techniques to directly stimulate excitable tissue without introducing genetic modifications and minimizing cellular stress remains an ongoing challenge. Infrared (IR) light has been used to achieve optical pacing for electrophysiological studies in embryonic quail and mammalian hearts. Here, we demonstrate optical stimulation and pacing of the embryonic chicken heart using a pulsed infrared thulium laser with a wavelength of 1927 nm. By recording stereomicroscope outputs and quantifying heart rates and movements through video processing, we found that heart rate increases instantly following irradiation with a large spot size and high radiant exposure. Targeting the atrium using a smaller spot size and lower radiant exposure achieved pacing, as the heart rate synchronized with the laser to 2 Hz. This study demonstrates the viability of using the 1927 nm thulium laser for cardiac stimulation and optical pacing, expanding the optical parameters and IR lasers that can be used to modulate cardiac dynamics.

  • The Pohang Light Source (PLS) - II is a 3 GeV third-generation synchrotron radiation facility. To inject electron beam from LINAC, a kicker modulator system and kicker magnets are installed in the PLS-II storage ring tunnel. The injected beam then falls into the storage ring beam dynamic aperture. This paper describes the design and implementation of the solid-state kicker modulator for PLS-II. The solid-state kicker modulator is consisted of high voltage solid state switch stacks. the technical considerations of the solid-state switch stacking for kicker modulator is discussed. The achieved capability of the solid-state kicker modulator demonstrates that is fulfills the design requirement of providing half-sine pulsed current of 10kA (peak), 6us (Base-width), with jitter < 2ns (Standard deviation). simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the solid-state kicker modulator.

  • This paper describes -40kV high voltage solid state pulse power modulator (SSPPM) for driving a magnetron, which is used as a RF power source of LINAC for cancer treatment systems. In case of the medical LINAC, small size and light weight are required. The SSPPM is 92 liters in size and weighs 50 kg. In this paper, S-band 2.6 MW magnetron load experiment is conducted and impedance matching was applied to obtain a smooth output current. Finally, the experimental results is discussed and the reliability of SSPPM is verified.

  • We have developed a compact, wavelength-selectable, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at mid ultraviolet for chemical warfare agent detection. The fundamental wave at 1064 nm is delivered by a pulsed solid state laser incorporating with a square-type Nd:YAG rod in a resonator closed by two crossed Porro prisms for environmental reliability. The output energy at 213 nm ($5{\omega}$) and 266 nm ($4{\omega}$) by ${\chi}^{(2)}$ process in the sequentially disposed BBO crystals are measured to be 6.8 mJ and 15.1 mJ, respectively. The output wavelength is selected for $5{\omega}$ and $4{\omega}$ by a motorized wavelength switch. The energy ratio of the $5{\omega}$ to the $4{\omega}$ is varied from 0.05 to 0.85 by controlling the phase matching temperature of the nonlinear crystal for sum-frequency generation without change of the output pulse parameters.
