  • Phosphorus doped ZnO thin films on (001) $Al_2O_3$ substrate have been prepared by a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique using a Nd:YAG laser. After deposition, phosphorus doped ZnO thin films have been annealed in vacuum, air, nitrogen, and oxygen ambients using pulsed Nd:YAG laser. We report the electrical properties of phosphorus doped ZnO thin films with the variation of the laser annealing conditions for the applications of optoelectronic devices.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of EDTA and pulsed Nd:YAG laser on apical of canal obturation. Forty-eight single-rooted teeth were used in thes study. The teeth were instrumented up to a size 40 K-file and irrigated with 2.5% NaOCl between each file size. And the teeth were divided into 4 groups. In group A, the root canals were irrigated with a final flush of 5ml 2.5% NaOCl as a control group.(omitted)

  • The real-time holographic interferometer with digital high-speed camera is applied to the experimental study of laser induced plasma/plume in pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser with 1.2 kW average power is applied to generate laser induced plume. The recording speed of the high-speed camera is 3,000 f/s. The high speed photographs of weld plume without another visualization method, are compared with the visualization photographs with holographic interferometer. The radiation intensity from the laser induced plume is recorded by the high speed photographs, which fluctuated during laser radiation and disappeared after laser end. The density distribution of the plume is recorded by the holographic visualization method. The experimental results show the process of generation of the laser induced plasma/plume, and give the feasibility of quantitative measurement of laser induced plume in laser welding.

  • Various welding methods such as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding(GTAW), magnetic force electrical resistance welding and Laser Beam Welding(LBW) are now available for end cap closure of nuclear fuel rods. Even though the resistance and GTA welding processes are widely used in manufacturing commercial fuel rods, they can not be recommended for the remote seal welding of fuel rods in the hot cell Facility due to the complexity of the electrode alignment, the difficulty in replacing parts in a remote manner and the large heat input for the thin sheath. Therefore, the Nd:YAG laser system using optical fiber transmission was selected for the end cap welding of irradiation fuel rods in the hot cell. The remote laser welding apparatus in the hot cell Facility was developed using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser of 500 watt average power with an optical fiber transmission. The weldment quality such as microstructure and mechanical strength was satisfactory. The optimum conditions of laser welding for encapsulating irradiation fuel rods in the hot cell were obtained.

  • In order to optimize the operational characteristics of single elliptical pulsed Nd:YAG laser designed and fabricator compactly, it is very important to design the resonator shape and the PFN(Pulse Forming Network) suitably. We have been shown that the EMTP(Electro-Magnetic Transient Program) simulation. was used effectively in designing PFN. And Next, we have been compared current pulse width, laser beam profile and damping parameter with laser output energy. In this paper, we have suggested the optimalization of PFN design and the best operational condition.

  • Laser-assisted selective infiltration is a new method of building metal layers to make metal parts layer by layer, in which superheated microscopic metal droplets are infiltrated into a laser-preheated layer of microscopic metal powders. In this work, the selective infiltration of a low melting-point metal, Sn-37Pb wt%, was conducted to investigate the effects of such dominant parameters as superheating temperature, Nd:YAG laser power for preheating, substrate temperature, etc. The optimal conditions for successful selective infiltration of a single layer of microscopic metal powder were experimentally obtained

  • Titanium and its alloys have excellent corrosion resistance, high strength to weight ratios and high temperature creep properties, which make them using many various fields of application. Responding to these needs, welding processes for titanium are also being used including TIG, MIG, resistance welding, plasma arc welding, diffusion welding, electron beam welding and laser welding. In this study, It is possible to get sound beads without humping bead and spatter with the decrease of peak power according to increase of pulse width and change of welding speed for heat input control at pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding of titanium plates for Lap welding.

  • Most dentists are very interested in laser therapy on the intraoral soft tissue lesions because they want to accomplish the analgesic and aseptic surgery with little or no bleeding. In order to determine the difference of pain threshold according to different gingival tissues with or without inflammation, 25 patients with inflammatory periodontal disease and 10 volunteers with good general and oral health were selected as the inflamed group and the normal group, respectively. Interdental papilla, marginal gingiva, attached gingiva, and alveolar mucosa were irradiated by the contact delivery($300{\mu]m$ fiber optic, for 5 seconds) of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser(EN.EL.EN06O, Italy). And the laser power was gradually increased from 0.5W by the increment of 0.1W. The highest laser power was recorded as the first painful power when the painful gesture was recognized at first. The difference of the first painful power of laser according to different gingival tissues with or without inflammation was statistically analyzed by paired t-test in MICROSTAT program. Following results were obtained: 1. In the comparison related with the inflammation, the first painful power was significantly lower in the inflamed group than in the normal group, regardless of interdental papilla and marginal gingiva(p<0.05). 2. In the comparison related with the tissue structure, the first painful. power was significantly lower in alveolar mucosa than in attached gingiva(p<0.05). The results suggest that, for the painless therapy by a pulsed-Nd:YAG laser irradiation, the laser surgery over 2.0W of power should be necessarily accomplished under the local anethesia, and the local anesthesia should be considered according to the degree of inflammation, the tissue structure, and the purpose of laser therapy.
