Underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) is a good candidate for high-speed underwater wireless communication. In this work, we compare the performance of several modulation techniques for a UOWC system consisting of a light-emitting diode (LED) with an operating wavelength of 405 nm and a Si avalanche photodiode (APD). In this work, we consider six modulation schemes: 4-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), 8-QAM, quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), binary phase shift keying (BPSK), on-off keying (OOK), and 4-pulse amplitude modulation (PAM). We also consider the cases of pure water and seawater for the working conditions. Our results show that 4-QAM and 8-QAM perform the best, in terms of communication distance and transmission power efficiency, for all water types considered.
Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a benign tumor that occurs in the respiratory tract, especially in the larynx. The etiology of RRP is human papillomavirus (HPV). According to the age of occurrence, RRP is divided into childhood-onset and adult-onset types. Generally, childhood-onset RRP shows a high recurrence rate and diffuse involvement in the respiratory tract. Adult-onset RRP is more localized and appears more frequently as a solitary lesion. It may be the result of sexual transmission or the proliferation of latent HPV infections. At present, the treatment of choice for RRP is CO2 laser ablation. In addition, pulse dye laser or KTP (KTiOPO: potassium-titanyl-phosphate) lasers are also used. Non-surgical adjuvant therapies can be applied in cases requiring repetitive surgery or with diffuse extensions. This review will introduce the clinical features of RRP and various treatment options including lasers.

This study proposes an AC servo motor control program structure and its implementation method to efficiently integrate 13 types of additional compensation algorithms into the basic FOC (field-oriented control) algorithm program. Various compensation algorithms are necessary to enhance the stability and performance of machine tools by compensating for interference from disturbances and vibrations. Each compensation algorithm is implemented as a separate, independent function and called from a switch-case statement in the ISR (interrupt service routine) of the PWM (pulse-width modulation) device. The advantages of this approach include facilitating not only debugging and testing but also reducing the possibility of errors during the program development phase. Thus, it is easy to add and activate each specific compensation algorithm for the program update during the program operation phase. The implemented motor control program was experimented with a single-axis feed shaft testbed driven by a commercial AC servo motor control drive board and a 750 Watts SPMSM (surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor), and the results verified its normal operation and performance improvement.

The spread of plasmid-mediated colistin resistance has posed a serious threat to public health owing to its effects on the emergence of pandrug-resistant bacteria. In this study, we investigated the prevalence and characteristics of mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli isolated from retail meat samples in Korea. In total, 1,205 E. coli strains were isolated from 3,234 retail meat samples in Korea. All E. coli strains were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing and were examined for the presence of mcr-1 gene. All mcr-1-positive E. coli (n = 10, 0.8%) from retail meat were subjected to pulse-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and whole-genome sequencing (WGS). The transferability of mcr-1 gene was determined by conjugation assays. The mcr-1-positive strains exhibited diverse clonal types. Our mcr-1 genes were located in plasmids belonged to the IncI2 (n = 1) and IncX4 (n = 8) types, which were reported to be prevalent in Asia and worldwide, respectively. Most mcr-1 genes from mcr-1-positive strains (9/10) were transferable to the recipient strain and the transfer frequencies ranged from 2.4 × 10-3 to 9.8 × 10-6. Our data suggest that the specific types of plasmid may play an important role in spreading plasmid-mediated colistin resistance in Korea. Furthermore, our findings suggest that the retail meat may be an important tool for disseminating plasmid-mediated colistin resistance.

The results of the modification of metal materials treated by high temperature pulst:d plasma fluxes (HTlPPF) with a specific power of incident flux changing in the $(3...100)10^5{]\;}W/cm^2$ range and a pulse duration lying from 15 to $50{\;}\mu\textrm{s}$ have been presented. The results of HTPPF action were studied on the stainless steels of 18Cr-l0Ni, 16Cr- 15Ni, 13Cr-2Mo types; on the structural carbon steels of (13...35)Cr, St. 3, St. 20, St. 45 types; on the tool steels of U8, 65G, ShHI5 types, and others; on nickel and high nickel alloy of 20Cr-45Ni type; on zirconium- and vanadium-base alloys and other materials. The microstructure and properties (mechanical, tribological, erosion, and other properties) of modified materials and surface alloying of metals exposed to HTPPF action have been investigated. It was found that the modification of materials by HTPPF resulted in a simultaneous increase of several properties of the treated articles: microhardness of the surface and layers of 40...60 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in depth, tribological characteristics (friction coefficient, wear resistance), mechanical properties ({\sigma_y}, {\;}{\sigma_{0.2}}.{\;}{\sigma_r}) on retention of the initial plasticity ($\delta$), corrosion resistance, radistanation erosion under ion irradiation, and others. The determining factor of the changes observed is the structural-phase modification of the near-surface layers, in particular, the formation of the fine cellular structure in the near-surface layers at a depth of $20{\;}{\mu\textrm{m}}$ with dimension of cells changing in the range from 0.1 to $1., 5{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$, depending on the kind of material, its preliminary treatment, and the parameters of plasma fluxes. The remits obtained have shown the possibility of purposeful surface alloying of metals exposed to HTPPF action over a depth up to 20...45 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the concentration of alloying element (Ni, Cr, V) up to 20 wt.%. Possible industrial brunches for using the treatment have been also considered, as well as some results on modifying the serial industrial articles by HTPPF.
Capturing real-time daily information on food prices is invaluable to help policymakers and development organizations address food security problems and improve public welfare. This study analyses the possible use of large-scale online data, available due to growing Internet connectivity in developing countries, to provide updates on food security landscape. We conduct a case study of Indonesia to develop a time-series prediction model that nowcasts daily food prices for four types of food commodities that are essential in the region: beef, chicken, onion and chilli. By using Twitter price quotes, we demonstrate the capability of social data to function as an affordable and efficient proxy for traditional offline price statistics.

In dense electronic warfare signal environments, the conventional radar identification methods based on the basic parameters such as frequency, pulse width, and pulse repetition interval are confronted by the problem of identification ambiguity. To overcome this critical problem, a new approach introducing scan pattern of radars has been presented. Researches on new identification methods, however, suffer from a practical problem that it is not easy to secure the many radar signals including various scan pattern information and operation parameters. This paper presents a modeling method of radar signals with which we can generate radar signals including various scan pattern types according to the parameters determining the variation pattern of received signal strength. In addition, with the radar signals generated by the proposed model we analyze their characteristics according to the location of an electronic warfare support (ES) system.
Purpose: This study intended to improve quality of prehospital emergency care for trauma patients by figuring out its current situations and problems based on run-sheets and questionnaires of 119 emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: This study conducted a research of 425 trauma patients transferred to the 3rd hospital in G-city by 119 ambulances from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. We aslo utilized 114 copies with questionnaires of 119 EMTs working in J-province. The data were analyzed with SPSS 18.0. Results: There were 425 trauma patients including 272 men and 137 patients with traffic accident. When it comes to types of 119 EMTs who delivered cares to patients, there were 206 (48.5%) advanced EMTs, 101 (23.8%) basic EMTs, 50 (11.8%) nurses and 43 (10.2%) rescue education receivers. The most frequent measured vital sign was pulse rate (54.1%). Regarding assessment of systolic blood pressure, pulse rate and respiration rate, there were some significant differences in accordance with type of 119 EMTs. Among the 317 patients evaluated 'emergency' in field, 137 patients returned to their home. Prehospital emergency cares accounted for 861, around 2.0 treatments per a patient. In view of questionnaire, the 74.6% of 119 EMTs hoped supplement of man power for proper prehospital care to trauma patients. Conclusion: This study suggested that it is necessary to develop detailed guidelines for trauma patients so as to improve quality of trauma patient evaluation and prehospital care. Furthermore, improvement of emergency care systems will reduce mortality of trauma patients and lead to their good outcome.

It is necessary to analyze on the compressive strength among material properties of concrete for confirming damages of architectures due to large explosion. A non destructive test is known as the representative methods estimating compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity, rebound hardness test are widely used because of their simplicity, convenience. But combined method supplementing two types is applied at now as they are affected by the characteristics of test specimen. In this research to check damages on the members of structure before and after explosion, the characteristics of compressive strength are compared and analyzed through a real explosion test prior to full scale structures. The test results showed that the larger the TNT powder and the shorter the distance, the greater the decrease in strength before and after the explosion and that the largest displacement and moment for the explosive load and the greatest decrease in the strength at the central part. Due to the surface condition and the thickness variation of the concrete specimens, the standard deviation value is the smallest in the combining method of fusion of the ultrasonic method and rebound hardness method. Thus, the combining method can be one of appropriate methods to evaluate the strength in the reinforced concrete structures damaged by the explosion.
In this paper, we have introduced the feature extraction for the ultrasonic signal analysis of the undamaged and damaged concrete specimens. Since the concrete has the heterogeneous nature by itself, it has been difficult to classify the feature with using ultrasonic signal which is acquired from the undamaged and damaged concrete specimens. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed the combinational analysis which is using both the damage coefficient and the number of zerocrossing for the feature extraction. And the pulse velocity method and the damage coefficient, which was proposed by Suaris, were reviewed. In this experiment, two types of concrete specimen have been considered: 180kg/㎠ and 240kg/㎠. The ultrasonic signals were acquired in normal direction. As a result, it has been that combinational analysis method, which is proposed in this paper, shows the better performance than the traditional ultrasonic pulse velocity method and the damage coefficient using maximum amplitude of the ultrasonic signal in the feature extraction.
