Novel estimation method of operating life in lithium-ion pouch cells

  • Herein, a novel operating life (OL) test method was evaluated with 200 mAh pouch-type lithium-ion batteries. By combining the calendar life (CL) test with intermediate pulse power cycling, more realistic life prediction was possible, which encompassed real operation of batteries accompanying with thermal acceleration. Larger capacity decrease and resistance increase of pouch cell were observed in the OL test, which was well explained using the SEI film growth model. After dissemble of pouch cell, capacity loss and resistance increase mostly occurred within anode, reflecting that SEI film growth on anode surface was highly attributable to cell degradation.

An Empirical Approach for Improving the Estimation of the Concrete Compressive Strength Considered the Effect of Age and Drilled Core Sample (재령과 코어의 영향을 고려한 향상된 콘크리트 압축강도 추정기법의 경험적 제안)

  • To evaluate the compressive strength of concrete, rebound test and ultra pulse velocity methods as well as core test were widely used. The predicted strength effected by age, maturity and degradation of concrete, is a slight difference between in-situ concrete strength. The compressive strength of standard cylinder specimens and core samples by obtained from drilling will have a difference since the concrete is disturbed during the drilling by machinery. And the rebound number and ultra pulse velocity are also changed according to the age and maturity of concrete that effected to the surface hardness and microscpic minuteness. The authors performed the experimental work to reflect the age and core effect to the results from NDE test. The test results considering on the core and age of concrete were compaired with the proposed equation to predict the compressive strength.

  • The emission test a domestic fabricated cathode is conducted using an easy-replaceable-emitter-type test bench. A simple cylindrical button type cathode is dropped vertically into a cathode cup holder. The cathode is heated by a tungsten wire heater located around the cup holder. The cathode temperature is measured by an optical pyrometer. A high voltage pulse power supply gives the anode-cathode gap voltage up to 20 kV with the pulse width of 15 us. The emitted current from the cathode is captured at a faraday cup and is measured using current transformer and oscilloscope. The test bench is installed in the vacuum chamber with easy access door and, therefore, the cathode can be easily replaceable. We confirmed the emission current density of $15A/cm^2$ and $80A/cm^2$ with a domestic fabricated B-type cathode and a Scandate cathode, respectively. The detailed test result for the cathode will be presented.

  • This paper proposes a new synthetic test circuit (STC) to confirm the switching operation of thyristor valve in HVDC converter. The proposed STC uses a 6-pulse thyristor converter with 2-phase chopper as a high-current source to provide turn-on current to the test valve. The operation of proposed STC was verified through theoretical analysis and computer simulations. Based on computer simulations, a hardware scaled model was built and tested to confirm the feasibility of implementing a real-size test facility. The proposed system has an advantage of simple structure and operation over the existing system.

  • This paper has aimed to prevent excessive heat input by controlling arc distribution and heat input capacity with pulse GTAW in order to improve weld quality in 0.08mm pressure gauge diaphragm and flange welding parts. A design of experiment was designed using Box-Behnken method to optimize a welding process. The pulse GTAW parameters such as pulse current, base current, pulse duty, frequency and welding speed were set to input variables while hydraulic pressure that represents welding characteristics in diaphragm and flange joint were set to output variables. Based on the test result, a second regression equation was obtained between input and output variables and turned out significant. Besides, an influence of parameters has been confirmed through response surface analysis using the second-order regression equation and optimum welding condition was obtained through a grid-search method. The optimum welding condition was set to pulse current 84.4(A), base current 29.6(A), pulse duty 58.8(%), frequency 10(%), and welding speed 596(mm/min). Then, decent bead shape was acquired with no excessive heat input under the $2.3kgf/cm^2$ of hydrostatic pressure.

  • Objectives : Ryodoraku is a physiological function test using electric current, and is closely related to skin sympathetic tone. Pulse analysis is known to reflect cardiovascular reactivity. There has been no report on the correlation between ryodoraku and pulse analysis in respiratory diseases. The present study examined the diagnostic values of ryodoraku and pulse analysis for respiratory disease patients Methods : For this study, we conducted ryodoraku and pulse analysis in 103 people including 79 respiratory disease outpatients who visited the $5^{th}$ Internal Department of the Oriental Medicine Hospital of Kyung Hee University during the period from January 1, 2003 to July 25, 2006, and 24 volunteers who did not have any respiratory symptoms or disease history. The respiratory disease patients were divided into five sub-groups according to their symptom: cough-sputum group, wheezing-dyspnea group ' nasal symptoms group. cold-prone group, and fatigue prone group. We compared the disease groups with the control group in six items as follows : mean ryodoraku, mean H1, mean elastic index, the percentage of those with mean ryodoraku below $40{\mu}A$, the percentage of those with HI beyond the physiological range, and the ratio of left : right of elastic index Results and Conclusions : Ryodoraku and pulse analysis were found to have a high value as quantitative diagnosis tools reflecting individuals' weakness and firmness. The results of this research suggest that ryodoraku and pulse analysis have value as tools for diagnosing respiratory diseases.

Internal Flow Characteristics of Simulated Dual Pulse Rocket Motor by Using the Hot Gas and Cold Gas (Hot Gas와 Cold Gas를 이용한 모사 이중펄스 로켓 추진기관의 내부 유동 특성)

  • Dual pulse rocket motor is a variant of solid rocket motor with two propellant grain separated by a pulse separation device. The major performance of such a rocket motor is influenced by the change in the hole area of pulse separation device to nozzle throat area ratio. In this study, we performed flow analysis to investigate the internal flow characteristics according to the pulse separation device hole area to nozzle throat area ratio change. Gases used flow analysis were used combustion gas of HTPB/AP composite propellant and nitrogen gas. Flow analysis results of the dual pulse rocket motor were validated by comparison with experimental results of pneumatics. Commercial CFD code ANSYS FLUENT 14.5 is used in this study to simulate flow analysis.

  • In XRF systems, various techniques have been developed for the synthesis of pulse shapes using digital methods instead of traditional analog methods. Trapezoidal pulse shaping algorithms can be used for digital multi-channel pulse height analysis in X-ray spectrometer systems. In this paper, an efficient trapezoidal filter architecture is presented. In addition, we present a hardware-efficient peak value detection algorithm. By the proposed algorithm, peak value detection error is decreased by half compared with the conventional algorithm. The proposed Digital Pulse Processing(DPP) algorithm is designed using Verilog HDL and implemented using an FPGA on a test board. It is demonstrated that the implemented DPP board works successfully in practical XRF systems.

  • Since the SRRs(Short Range Radar) load on the GVESs(Ground Vehicle Equipment System) are operated within several hundred meters, it is important to suppress the interferences between the SRRs. These interference are reduced using the frequency separation between channels, however this method isn't a perfect solution owing to a difficulty of a realization for the interference suppression. Thus, a pulse-to-pulse coding used to suppress the interference fundamentally is proposed in this paper. The concept, the application method and the test results of the proposed method have been described in this paper.

  • In this paper, proposed peak detector for the measurement of pulse radiation dose. The speed of the pulse radiation signal is the between a few ns and tens ns. Therefore, it is difficult to measure peak voltage. Peak Detector maintains the peak voltage generated from the sensor for a few ms and the converted signals can be easily measured using the ADC. The peak detector simulation results peak value remained of more than 1ms. Pulse radiation irradiation test results, a dose of $1.95{\times}10^6rad/s$ was measured.
