From ancient times, the diagnosis method of the oriental medicine has been performed by curing diseases by means of rectifying and adjusting the unbalance in the physiological function of the five viscera and the six bowels of a human body. Diseases have been diagnosed by the condition of blood circulation that cycles a human body through blood vessels by dint of the vitality of the heart. Based on such a systematic pulse diagnosis method, the article presents parameters that will be beneficial to clinical application on the basis of its analysis of the filtering for eliminating noises from pulse signals inputted from sensor group, the digital hardware dealing with signals necessary for recognition algorithm, and the structure of diagnosis algorithm and components of pulse waveform.

A radial artery pulse wave is measured while pressing an artery with constant force. However, pulse waveform measurements vary depending on pressing force and direction. Accurate pulse waveform measurements are important for analysis. Thus, it is necessary to define the measurement range of the permissible force and direction from which a correct pulse waveform is derived. In this study, pulse waves were generated by a pulse wave generator for accurate control. The pulse waves generated for different angles and pressing forces were analyzed. The augmentation index (AIx), which is the most commonly used index for evaluating vascular stiffness, was analyzed. The AIx was measured within ${\pm}6^{\circ}$ of the vessel direction and within ${\pm}8^{\circ}$ perpendicular to the vessel direction with a force that was 25% or more of the pressing force at which the maximum pressure wave was generated. We identified the applicable pressing force and angle range by analyzing the effect of pressing angle on the pulse wave. The AIx analysis performed using the pulse wave measurement device is reliable and reproducible.

Objectives: The aim of the present investigation was to determine whether the finger photoplethysmographic waveform of a healthy young man will become analogous to those of healthy old men when the photoplethysmographic harmonic components in the young man decrease. Methods and Results: The finger photoplethysgmoraphy was measured in 21 old men over the age of 60 years and a young men. We acquired the representative pulse waveform of old man by averaging the finger photoplethysmographic waveforms measured in the old men. after the photoplethysmographic harmonic components in the young man were diminished with notch filtering, we compared the representative pulse waveform of old man and the pulse waveforms of which the harmonic components decreased in the young man. The finger photoplethysmographic waveform of the young man became analogous to those of the old men as the photoplethysmographic harmonic components in the young man were diminished with notch filtering. Conclusions: Decrease of the second harmonic component may be a precondition of typical age-related change of the pulse waveform.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to gain the objective indicators for the classification of hypertension by oriental medical pulse diagnosis, through finding out the parameters which can distinguish the pulse of hypertensive patient from that of normal subject, and characterizes the wiry pulse of hypertension. Methods: 30-59 yr, male, 946 healthy volunteers and 35 hypertensive patients were enrolled in this study. All the hypertensive patients were taking medicine to control the blood pressure and the blood pressure of the hypertension group was not statistically different from that of the normal healthy group. Data were acquired using 3 dimensional pulse imaging analyser(DMP-3000, DAEYOMEDI, KOREA) and analysed according to the age bands and the applied pressure levels. Results: 1. RAI/t, w/t and t2/t decreased with the levels of applied pressure and increased with age in the normal healthy group, not in the hypertension group. 2. RAI/t, w/t, t2/t were significantly higher in the hypertension group than the normal healthy group in the 30-age band, and elasticity coefficient was higher in the hypertension group than the normal healthy group in the 40-age band. 3. Researches on the patients without hypotensive agents are needed to figure out whether these parameters are the components of hypertensive wiry pulse. Conclusions: Analysing the radial pulse at 5 applied pressure levels using 3 dimensional pulse imaging analyser may be useful to differentiate the pulses of the hypertensive patients from those of the normal subjects, and characterize the hypertension.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of food intake on the Fourier components of radial pulse wave. Methods: Thirty-one healthy male subjects participated in this study. Radial pulse was measured using 3 dimensional pulse imaging system (DMP-3000) before, right after, 40 minutes after, 80 minutes after and 120 minutes after food intake. Fourier transform was performed and the frequency and amplitude of Fourier components were analyzed. Results: 1. The frequency and the amplitude of Fourier components of radial pulse wave increased significantly after food intake. 2. The frequency of Fourier components increased right after food intake and then gradually decreased as time passed, however the amplitude of Fourier components increased and maintained certain levels and patterns throughout the experimental period of 120 minutes. 3. The change ratios of the frequency and the amplitude of Fourier components after food intake varied with the pulse measuring locations. Conclusions: Food intake exerts an influence on radial pulse wave, resulting in increase of frequency and amplitude of Fourier components. The change ratios of the frequency and the amplitude of Fourier components after food intake varied with the pulse measuring locations.
In order to analyze and diagnosis on Location of partial discharge in underground distribution cable, partial discharges were measured using eletromagnetic sensors, oscilloscope, PDMS system at on-site underground multi-circuit switches. Throughout the analysis using 3-phase simultaneous pulse analysis and pulse polarity comparison of circuits, it is possible to separate noises and PD pulses and to find out the location of the pulses.

Objectives : In the study on the waveform analysis of radial artery pulse diagnosis, we need to establish fundaments of contemporary pulse diagnosis research, and to find the change of pulse waveform parameter with applied variation pf pressure. Methods : As we will to do experimental research on the difference of pulse waveform on the radial artery with applied variations of pressure(5 stage-pressure) and measuring position(left KWAN). In this research, we analyzed the change of the waveform according to five stage pressure. Results : The results were as follows; When we analyzed the change of the waveform according to pressure in the left KWAN, E, hl, h2 and A were the difference between 8ths pressure grades in 95% trust section. And t2, t4 were the difference between 8ths pressure grades in 95% trust section. W was the difference between 8ths pressure grades in 95% trust section. And h2/h1 was the difference between 6ths pressure grades in 95% trust section. There is the difference between 1st and 2nd grade & between 2nd and 5th grade in the case of t4/t2 in 95% trust section. And there is the difference between 1st and 5th grade, between 3rd and 4th grade, between 3rd and 5th grade & between 4th and 5th grade in the case of W/A in 95% trust section. And there is the difference between 1st and 2nd grade, between 2nd and 3rd grade, between 2nd and 4th grade, between 3rd and 4th grade, between 3rd and 5th grade & between 4th and 5th grade in the case of A/E in 95% trust section. Conclusions : We found the statistically resonable differences between each pulse depending on the applied pressure. And Analysing the radial pulse(left KWAN) at 5 applied pressure levels may be useful to study on the pulse waveform diagnosis.
The purpose of this study is to find a classification method with high accuracy in regard with sasang constitutional diagnosis. The BMI, blood pressure, pulse wave, and Sasang constitution diagnosed by a specialist was collected from 2848 subjects who were apparently healthy. Through a selective procedure, the data of 1635 subjects was used in the analysis. The results with the classification methods such as the discriminant analysis, regression, decision tree and neural network were compared with the diagnosis of a Sasang constitutional specialist. In result, the discriminant analysis method was hard to qualify the assumption of the equality of covariance matrices within constitutional groups. Moreover, without BMI, the decision tree and neural network methods were very sensitive to the change of the analysis data. Therefore, the Logistic regression and the decision tree is recommended on condition that the decisive factors of constitution are well concerned.

Background: Eight-Constitution Medicine (ECM) classifies the human body into eight constitutions. Diagnosis of discrimination of the eight constitutions depends on a unique pulse diagnosis. However, pulse diagnosis is subjective and requires vigorous training. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the validity and reliability of the Eight-Constitution Questionnaire as a diagnostic method. Methods: Participants of this study were outpatients in six ECM clinics located in Seoul. The resources were collected from 409 patients who were classified into one of the eightconstitutions according to their pulse types and their responses to constitution-acupuncture therapy. SPSS 13.0 for Windows was used for statistical analysis: factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent sample t-test, and multinomial logistic regression were used to verify the results. Results and Conclusions: 1. The proportion of participants' constitutions is in the order of Pancreotonia (23.7%), Colonotonia (19.8%), Pulmotonia (18.1%), Hepatonia (16.9%), Vesicotonia (8.1%), Cholecystotonia (7.3%), Renotonia (5.3%) and Gastrotonia (0.7%). 2. Sevencomponents and 74 items were selected through factor factor and relaibility analysis performed on about 251 items. 3. The firstcomponent's mean is significantly higher in Pancreotonia than that in other constitutions (p<0.05). The second is in Pulmotonia and Colonotonia, whereas the third is in Hepatonia and Cholecystotonia. Fifth is in Vesicotonia, the sixth is in Colonotonia, and the fourth and seventh are not significant in specific constitutions. 4. The percentage that Pancreotonia is correctly predicted is 96.9%, Pulmotonia is 91.9%, Colonotonia is 91.4%, Hepatonia is 88.4%, Vesicotonia is 81.8%, Gastrotonia is 66.7%, Renotonia is 66.7%, Choleeystotonia is 30.0%, and the total percentage is 85.3%.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of the pulse energy in women who complained mild hyperemesis gravidarum. Methods : We analyzed the values of pulse energy on 14 patients who suffered mild hyperemesis gravidarum. The patients’ symptoms were assessed by PUQE (Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis scale). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0 for window program, one way ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficient. Results : The results were as follows. 1.
