  • This paper presents a high-frequency voltage source inverter for silent corona discharge ozonizer application, which is characterized by the power control based on pulse density modulation (PDM). The PDM inverter produces either a square -wave ac-voltage state or a zero-voltage state at its ac terminals to control the average output voltage under constant do voltage and operating frequency. This results in a wide range of power control in the silent corona discharge load with a strong nonlinear characteristics. And proposed addition circuit for maintain discharge on the center of the airgap. In this paper, schemed equivalent electric circuit of the discharge electrode for simulation. Finally, the effectiveness of this discharge tube character of silent corona ozonizer is investigated in the simulation results.

  • The paper describes a robust adaptive control algorithm for induction motor drive without speed sensor at low speed range. The control algorithm use only current sensors in a space vector pulse width modulation within loop control with rotor speed estimation and voltage source inverter. On-line rotor speed estimation is based on utilizing parallel model reference adaptive control system. MRAC of the modified flux model for flux and rotor speed estimator uses dual-adaptation mechanism, ${\omega}_r$ and ${\omega}_e$ scheme. The estimated flux components in the model can be compensated from the effects of offset errors on pure integrals. It can be compensated to the parameter variations and torque fluctuation with speed estimation in less then 10 rad/sec. In a simulation, the proposed induction motor control algorithm without speed sensor at very low speed range are shown to operate very well in spite of variable rotor time constant and fluctuating load without change the controller parameters. The suggested control strategy and estimation method have been validated by simulation study, and it proposed the designed system for the implementation using TI320C31 DSP/ASIC controller.

  • In this paper, we developed the on-line Data Aquisition System(DAS) of distribution transformers using the hardware and monitoring program. The DAS consists of the top oil temperature sensing part, ambient temperature sensing part, load current sensing part, acoustic emission peak-value sensing part, acoustic emission pulse counter part, micro-processor part and wireless communication part. The Monitoring System consists of the communication setting, online monitoring and database construction part. The DAS send the data acquired from the some sensors of the distribution transformers to the host PC. The monitoring program of the host PC stores the data to database. And the monitoring system estimates the loss of life time for distribution transformer from the DB. Thus, it could be managed the career and the functional lifetime of the transformer more efficiently than existing methodologies.

  • A dynamic elastic local buckling analysis is presented for a pile subjected to an axial impact load. The pile is assumed to be geometrically perfect. The interactions between the pile and the surrounding soil are taken into account. The interactions include the normal pressure and skin friction on the surface of the pile due to the resistance of the soil. The analysis also includes the influence of the propagation of stress waves through the length of the pile to the distance at which buckling is initiated and the mass of the pile. A perturbation technique is used to determine the critical buckling length and the associated critical time. As a special case, the explicit expression for the buckling length of a pile is obtained without considering soil resistance and compared with the one obtained for a column by means of an alternative method. Numerical results obtained show good agreement with the experimental results. The effects of the normal pressure and the skin friction due to the surrounding soil, self-weight, stiffness and geometric dimension of the cross section on the critical buckling length are discussed. The sudden change of buckling modes is further considered to show the 'snap-through' phenomenon occurring as a result of stress wave propagation.

  • As a container vessel becomes larger, the bow flare becomes larger. The large bow flare structures are often subjected to dynamic pressure loads due to bow flare slamming occurring in rough seas. The aim of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of bow flare slamming pressure measured in a real voyage through the North Pacific Ocean. The characteristics of impact pressure load caused by slamming is addressed in terms of the pressure pulse-time history which involves rising time, peak pressure, decaying time and type of pressure decay. The values were presented using non-dimensional parameters.

  • This paper proposes a new non-isolated DC conversion circuit topology of the voltage source coupled inductor series resonant high-frequency PFM controlled boost chopper type DC-DC power converter using two in one IGBT power module, which can efficiently operate under a principle of zero current soft switching for wide output regulation voltage setting ranges and wide fluctuation of the input DC side voltage as well as the load variation ranges. Its steady state operating principle and the output voltage regulation characteristics in the open-loop-based output voltage control scheme without PI controller loop are described and evaluated from theoretical and experimented viewpoints. Finally, in this paper the computer-aided simulation steady-state analysis and the experimental results are presented in order to prove the effectiveness and the validity of voltage regulation characteristics of the proposed series resonant zero current soft switching boost chopper type DC-DC power converter circuit using IGBTs which is based on simple pulse frequency modulation strategy more than, 20kHz.

  • This paper presents a soft switching DC/DC converter for high voltage application. The interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) scheme is used to reduce the ripple current at the output capacitor and the size of output inductors. Two converter cells are connected in series at the high voltage side to reduce the voltage stresses of the active switches. Thus, the voltage stress of each switch is clamped at one half of the input voltage. On the other hand, the output sides of two converter cells are connected in parallel to achieve the load current sharing and reduce the current stress of output inductors. In each converter cell, a half-bridge converter with the asymmetrical PWM scheme is adopted to control power switches and to regulate the output voltage at a desired voltage level. Based on the resonant behavior by the output capacitance of power switches and the transformer leakage inductance, active switches can be turned on at zero voltage switching (ZVS) during the transition interval. Thus, the switching losses of power MOSFETs are reduced. The current doubler rectifier is used at the secondary side to partially cancel ripple current. Therefore, the root-mean-square (rms) current at output capacitor is reduced. The proposed converter can be applied for high input voltage applications such as a three-phase 380V utility system. Finally, experiments based on a laboratory prototype with 960W (24V/40A) rated power are provided to demonstrate the performance of proposed converter.

  • This paper presents a computational study for the structural response of blast loaded metallic sandwich panels, with the emphasis placed on their failure behaviours. The fully-clamped panels are square, and the honeycomb core and skins are made of the same aluminium alloy. A material model considering strain and strain rate hardening effects is used and the blast load is idealised as either a uniform or localised pressure over a short duration. The deformation/failure procedure and modes of the sandwich panels are identified and analysed. In the uniform loading condition, the effect of core density and face-sheets thicknesses is analysed. Likewise, the influence of pulse shape on the failure modes is investigated by deriving a pressure-impulse (P-I) diagram. For localised loading, a comparative study is carried out to assess the blast resistant behaviours of three types of structures: sandwich panel with honeycomb core, two face-sheets with air core and monolithic plate, in terms of their permanent deflections and damage degrees. The finding of this research provides a valuable insight into the engineering design of sandwich constructions against air blast loads.

  • This study presents a new interleaved three-level zero-voltage switching (ZVS) converter for high-voltage and high-current applications. Two circuit cells are operated with interleaved pulse-width modulation in the proposed converter to reduce the current ripple at the input and output sides, as well as to decrease the current rating of output inductors for high-load-current applications. Each circuit cell includes one half-bridge converter and one three-level converter at the primary side. At the secondary side, the transformer windings of two converters are connected in series to reduce the size of the output inductor or switching current in the output capacitor. Based on the three-level circuit topology, the voltage stress of power switches is clamped at $V_{in}/2$. Thus, MOSFETs with 500 V voltage rating can be used at 800 V input voltage converters. The output capacitance of the power switch and the leakage inductance (or external inductance) are resonant at the transition interval. Therefore, power switches can be turned on under ZVS. Finally, experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.
