  • In this paper, the characteristics of brushless DC Motor using voltage source inverter are analysized. The optimal commutation angle for Maximum Torque, the pulse width of supply voltage for available torque and the advanced commutation according to motor speed and electrical time constant effect power factor, efficiency, and no load speed limit.

  • This paper deals with a simple method in order to analyze and compare the harmonic characteristics in the multi-level inverter. Generally, the magnitude of harmonic components becomes different according to the multi-carrier Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) techniques, the modulation index($M_i$) and the switching frequency The previous papers analyzed the harmonic characteristics from the viewpoint of the space voltage vector. Hence, the calculation of the harmonic vector becomes more difficult and complex in 4-level or over 5-level. However, the proposed method has reduced an amount of calculation and simplified the process of it, using the relationship between the reference voltage and the output phase voltage to the load neutral point. It is applied to the 5-level cascade inverter and the harmonic characteristics for each multi-carrier PWM technique are compared through the simulation.

  • This paper introduces an implementation of high performance voltage source inverter system based on 16bit micro-processor and DSP for the application to modem rolling stock traction system. In contrast with other industry oriented inverter system, this system requires precise control action complying with various load condition and high overload capability. An asynchronous PWM generation and 3' pulse mode technology are adopted in order to improve compliant starting torque characteristics at starting phase and soft backward-forward starting motion.

  • The aim of this study is to design a passive filter for the elimination of harmonics. For this design, the harmonics wave generating from the six pulse rectifier was measured and its characteristics were analyzed. We also calculated the quantity of harmonic current by changing the system operational conditions. According to this field data and calculated results. we determined the elements of the passive filter. The simulation results indicate the efficiency of designed passive filter.

  • This paper discusses the control of generator field using dual IGBT PWM regeneration method to target brushless synchronous generator. If one of PWM bridges happens to fault, it transfers automatically and can be in charge of full load. Also it has an advantage of the operation which UPS connected in parallel with PWM bridge can supply power to excitation system in condition of main power loss. This PWM system supplies field current to generator in one quadrature operation, regenerates field coil energy to main power supplier in four quadrature operation. We designed, manufactured and applied the first trial product at J-power plant.

  • Since HEMP has the very short rising time and propagates widespreadly with several tens of kV/m, it threatens most of systems in its cover range. Therefore, it is important to research coupling mechanism into systems and establish countermeasures for the HEMP to protect systems effectively. This paper analyzed characteristics and trends of currents to be induced at the load of a line which is located over ground with different conditions such as polarization, incidence angle, line length and height etc. We applied double exponential waveform as the HEMP shape and used BLT method to analyze the coupling route into the line. Also, we compared the simulation data of chain matrix modeling to verify reliability of BLT modeling. In the result, two data is almost agreed.

  • This paper proposes the power conversion mechanism of a bailer-charge-transfer zero-current-switching (CT-ZCS) circuit. The operation modes are analyzed and researched using state trajectory equations. The topology of CT-ZCS based on soft-switching inverters offers some merits such as: tracking the input reference signal dynamically, bearing load shock and short circuit, multiplying inverter N+1 redundancy parallel, coordinating power balance for easy control, and soft-switching commutation for high efficiency and large capacity. These advantages are distinctive from conventional inverter topologies and are especially demanded in AC drives: new energy generation and grid, distributed generation systems, switching power amplifier, active power filter, and reactive power compensation and so on. Prototype is manufactured and experiment results show the feasibility and dynamic voltage-tracking characteristics of the topology.

  • In this paper, a novel concept for a static three-phase to three-phase power converter for an AC drive with a unity power factor and reduced harmonics on the utility line is presented. The power circuit consists of two back-to-back connected six-pulse bridges having only a $\mu$F ceramic capacitor in the DC link. By controlling the active kpower balance between two bridges, the DC link voltage can be maintained within 20V deviation from the nominal value with the small ceramic capacitors regardless of the load variation even in the unbalanced source condition.

  • In order to turn on the SCR gate, trigger signal source have to provide appropriate gate current and voltage under the gate rating based on the characteristic of SCR, the nature of load and power. It will be essential design factors such as trigger source impedance, trigger signal occurring, signal time width and turn off conditions. Also minimum gate trigger current is changed with the deterioration of SCR. SCR, which is needed large gate trigger current absolutely, is very important for SCR characteristic test because it causes unstable output in the misfile or makes a trouble to pulse trigger circuits. This paper shows scheme to test the performance of SCR with the precision analyzing mechanism and the changing trend of minimum gate current under the trigger conditions.

  • 포항 방사광 가속기의 선형 가속기에서는 80-MW 클라이스트론 부하를 구동하기 위하여 최대 펄스 정격출력 200 MW(400kv 500A, 평탄도 4.4 $\mu s$)인 대출력 펄스 트랜스포머가 요구된다. 펄스 트랜스포머는 펄스 전원공급 장치(Modulator)로부터 대출력 부하(Klystron)로 펄스 에너지를 전달하며 임피던스 정합을 시키는 기능을 한다. 모듈레이터의 고전압 출력 펄스에서 RF 에너지를 발생시키는데 사용되는 유효 출력 에너지는 출력 펄스의 평탄부의 에너지에 해당된다. 그러므로, 펄스 트랜스포머는 빠른 상승시간을 가지는 것이 요구된다. 빠른 상승시간을 얻기 위하여 누설자속, 분포용량이 작게 되도록 설계하여야 한다.
