Soil nailing is a reinforcement method used for stabilizing excavated wall or slope. Due to its many advantages such as ease of construction and economical efficiency, use of soil nailing is increased. However, the soil nail can't trespass on the neighbor private land, which pays rent for use. For this reason, removable soil nailing system was developed. However, the removal rate of this system is just about $50\sim70%$. To solve this, the Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) soil nailing system, which does not need to be removed and allows for the trespass on the private land, is developed. In this paper, through theoretical and experimental studies in laboratory and field, we evaluate the stability and behavior characteristics of the FRP nail system. Besides, numerical analyses using FLAC2D were performed for various soil conditions, where the simulations for pullout tests were carried out. As a result, compared with the conventional removable soil nailing system, the FRP soil nailing systems show similar behavior characteristics.
Helical anchors are foundation structure that designed to resist uplift loads are installed by applying in load to shaft while rotating it into the ground. These can be a cost effective means of proving tension anchorage for foundation where soil conditions permit their installation because of ease of installation. At present time, tapered helical anchors are commonly used to carry uplift loads. The uplift capacity includes the following factors : the height of overburden above the top helix, the resistant along a cylinder, the weight of the soil in the cylinder and suction force. In order to make clear behavior characteristics of helical anchors with pullout, model tests were conducted with respect to various embedment depth, space of helix, shape of helix. Based on the experimental study, the following conclusions are drawn. 1) The uplift capacity of multi helical anchors increase with embedment ratio of anchors The increase is smooth after critical uplift capacity. 2) Critical breakout factors and critical embedment ratio of multi helical anchor exist 7∼8, 4∼6 respectively. 3) Variation of uplift capacity with helix spaces show down after S/D=5. 4) Critical breakout factors of helical anchor in the laboratory test are similar to Das's theory.
A central pullout test was conducted to investigate the bonding properties between high strength rebar and reactive powder concrete (RPC), which covered ultimate pullout load, ultimate bonding stress, free end initial slip, free end slip at peak load, and load-slip curve characteristics. The effects of varying rebar buried length, thickness of protective layer and diameter of rebars on the bonding properties were studied, and how to determine the minimum thickness of protective layer and critical anchorage length was suggested according the test results. The results prove that: 1) Ultimate pull out load and free end initial slip load increases with increase in buried length, while ultimate bonding stress and slip corresponding to the peak load reduces. When buried length is increased from 3d to 4d(d is the diameter of rebar), after peak load, the load-slip curve descending segment declines faster, but later the load rises again exceeding the first peak load. When buried length reaches 5d, rebar pull fracture occurs. 2) As thickness of protective layer increases, the ultimate pull out load, ultimate bond stress, free end initial slip load and the slip corresponding to the peak load increase, and the descending section of the curve becomes gentle. The recommended minimum thickness of protective layer for plate type members should be the greater value between d and 10 mm, and for beams or columns the greater value between d and 15 mm. 3) Increasing the diameter of HRB500 rebars leads to a gentle slope in the descending segment of the pullout curve. 4) The bonding properties between high strength steel HRB500 and RPC is very good. The suggested buried length for test determining bonding strength between high strength rebars and RPC is 4d and a formula to calculate the critical anchorage length is established. The relationships between ultimate bonding stress and thickness of protective layer or the buried length was obtained.
This paper describes interference effect analysis of transverse member based on large-scale pullout test results of steel strip reinforcement with '${\sqcap}$' type transverse member. The maximum passive resistance has a difference according to the installed location of transverse member, and the total pullout resistance is increased, when transverse member was closed to the wall facing. The degree of interference confirmed that the install location of transverse member cannot reflect the pullout force differential, if S/B is equal. However, The interference factor based on maximum passive resistance reflected the differential of maximum passive resistance and install location of transverse member.
An analytical model was developed for predicting the pullout behavior of straight beam longitudinal bars anchored at exterior beam-column connections. The model incorporates a local bond constitutive simulation capable of considering the effects of anchored bar diameter, yield strength and the spacing, concrete compressive strength, and column pressure on the bond characteristics of deformed bars in confined conditions of exterior joints. The analytical techniques adopted in this study were shown to satisfactorily predict the results of pullout tests on straight bars embedded in confined concrete specimens. An evaluation of the ACI-ASCE Committee 352 development length requirements in exterior joint conditions was made using the developed analytical approach. The results of this analytical evaluation are indicative of the conservatism of the current development length requirements in the confined conditions of exterior joints.
Depending on the underground load support mechanism, anchors are classified as friction anchors, bearing plate anchors and the recently developed combined friction-bearing plate anchors which combine the characteristics of both the friction and bearing plate type anchors. Even though numerous studies have been performed on bearing plate anchors, there were only few studies performed to observe the failure surface of bearing plate anchors. Furthermore most of the soil materials used on these tests were not real sand but carbon rods. In this study, sand was placed in the soil tank and laboratory tests were performed with bearing plate anchors installed with an embedment depth (H/h) ranging from 1~6. The variation in the pullout capacity and the behaviour of soil with the embedment depth (H/h) were observed. Ground deformation analysis program was also used to analyze soil displacement, zero extension direction, maximum shear strain contours. It was determined from the analysis of the results that at ultimate pullout resistance the deformation was 5 mm and the failure surface occurred in a narrower area when compared with results of the previous researches. It was also observed that the width of the fracture surface gradually becomes wider and expands up to the surface as the deformation increases from 10 mm to 15 mm.
Nowadays, some studies have been performed for rockbolt method widely used in Korea. To make large slopes, tunnels or rock structures stable, supporting systems, such as anchor bolt, rock bolt which are developed recently, are commonly used. In this study, laboratory pullout tests were carried out to compare the characteristics of rock bolt that is most widely used with ones of rock bolt by newly developed circular model testers. Re-pullout test for the rock bolt in which loading and unloading cycles are repeated several times showed that the maximum pullout load is almost constant irrespective of the number of loading cycles, which may be due to no failure between rock bolt and filler that is filled with soils and concrete as a substitute. A development of rock bolt fillers as supporters using to protect people in tunnels and slopes is reviewed as a probable man-made hazard after excavation works. The functions of the grouted rock bolts associated with reinforcement effects also should be assessed in this study, which develop the sealing apparatus preventing from overflowing mortar out of a rock bolt hole for securing safety in the tunnel and slopes in order to secure stability named the sealing packer.
In this study, physical and geotechnical properties of the light weight mixed soil( weathered granite soil mixed with small pieces of waste EPS) were analyzed by laboratory experiments to examine its suitability for backfill materials of the reinforced-earth walls. Friction characteristics of geogrid-light weight sized soil were also investigated by performing the pullout tests for two types of geogrids having different flexural rigidity. Also a procedure was proposed to evaluate friction strength between geogrid and light weight miffed soil by using a stress-strain relationship of the orthotropic composite material subjected to both longitudinal and vertical loadings. By the procedure proposed in this study, values of the calibration coefficients ul and uf applicable for the evaluation of friction strengths between two types of geogrids and light weight mixed soils were further presented.

In the present study, laboratory pull-out tests with screw anchors are carried out to investigate behavior characteristics of underground structures applied uplift seepage forces. Small scaled pull-out tests in sand were conducted under saturated condition. And then, it was observed that the upward displacement as well as the pullout load varied with spacing of the anchor. Also, analyses have been performed with the aim of pointing out the effects of various parameters on the group effect of the screw anchors.

Screw piles(Helical piles and anchors) are increasingly used to support and rehabilitate reinforced structures subjected to both tensile and compressive axial loads. This study presents a variety of detailed investigation on especially pull-out characteristics of screw piles performed to both reduced scale and numerical analysis to identify fundamental failure mechanisms and empirical optimized geometry of screw piles. It was found that the pull-out characteristics of screw piles are influenced with mainly different frequencies of compaction around soil and screw pile's pitch and followings are practical data based on empirical analysis.
