  • To overcome the weakness of spread foundation in large space structure, the research of precast pile for replace spread foundation have been conducted. The new type of joint between PHC pile and steel column is named HAT Joint(Hollow hAlf-sphere cast-sTeel Joint). It connected PHC Pile by bolt that verification of bolt connection should be accomplished. In this paper, pull-out test and flexural performance for HAT Joint to verifying the bolt connection is explained. As a result, the pull-out and flexural capacities of bolt were checked to use in real structure. Furthermore, the equation of pull-out strength was proposed.

  • An experimental study was performed on the pull-out behavior of 90-deg standard hooks from exterior beam-column connections. The effects of lateral confinement and fiber reinforcement of joint area were investigated. It was concluded ; (1) Substitution of the transverse column (confining) reinforcement with steel fibers at the joint region effectively reduces the extent of cracking in exterior joints caused by pull-out of hooked bars; and (2) The strength and ductility of hooked bars under pull-out forces are positively influenced by substituting the conventional confining reinforcement of exterior joints with steel fibers. Application of steel fibers to exterior joints seems to be an effective technique for improving the anchorage conditions of hooked bars, and also for reducing the congestion of reinforcement in exterior beam-column connections.

  • The tensile properties of short nylon6 fiber reinforced NR and SBR have been investigated as functions of diameter ratio(DR), interphase condition, fiber aspect ratio(AR), and fiber content. The short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=2) reinforced SBR did not show the dilution effect for all interphase conditions. And the short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=2) reinforced NR did not show the dilution effect except for the no-coating. The better interphase condition, the lower dilution effect at same DR. The tensile moduli are significantly improved due to fiber content and diameter ratio at same interphase condition. The pull-out force increased with the DR. The better interphase condition, the higher pull-out force at same DR. It is found that the DR and AR have an important effect on tensile properties.

  • Various methods for fixation of graft have been widely used for reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament. However, the biomechanical strength of each fixation techniques are not fully understood. The purpose of this study is to compare the pull out strength of different fixation techniques which is probably the most important factor for the success at the initial stage of healing. Biomechanical test was carried out to measure and compare the pull out tensile strength of five different fixation techniques in 35 pig(Yorkshire) knees. ANOVA and Duncan multiple comparison test was applied for statistical analysis. In the two fixation techniques with bone patellar tendon bone graft, the mean maximum tensile strength was $1333.4{\pm}148.5N$ with titanium interference screw, while it was $1310.1{\pm}168.9N$ with biodegradable interference screw. The failure mode were pulled out of bone plugs from the femoral tunnel in majority cases. In the fixations with hamstring tendon, the mean maximum tensile strength were $1405.9{\pm}135.1N$ with SemiFix screw, $820.3{\pm}104.5N$ with biodegradable interference screw, and $682.1{\pm}54.2N$ with Endobutton. The mode of failure was variable in each technique. The tendon was pulled out from the tunnel in biodegradable interference screw fixation, the screw was bent in the SemiFix system, and the polyester tape were ruptured or the buttons were pulled into tunnel in Endobutton fixation. The mean maximum tensile strength of two interference screws with bone patellar tendon bone was statistically comparable to that of SemiFix with hamstring tendon. However biodegradable interference screw and Endobutton with hamstring tendon showed weaker maximum tensile strength than above three fixation techniques (P<0.05).

  • An experimental investigation on the reinforcing bar corrosion and relationshid of reinforcing bar and concrete bond strength has been conducted to establish the allowable limit of rust in the construction field. The reinforcing bars used in this study were rusted before embedding in concrete. The first component of this experiment is to make rust of reinforcing bar rust artificially based on Faraday's theory at certain rates such as 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% of reinforcing bar weight. For estimation of the amount of rust by weight, Clarke's solution and Shot blasting were adopted and compared. Parameters include 240 and 450kg/㎠ of compressive strengths and diameter of reinforcing bar (16, 19 and 25mm) corresponding development length for pull-ort test. And, pull-out tests were carried. out according to KSF 2441 and ASTMC 234 to investigate the effect of the corrosion rate on reinforcing bar-concrete bond behavior. It is found from the test results that the test techniques for corrosion of bar used in this study is relatively effective and correct test method. Results shows that up to 2% of rust increases the bond strength regardless of concrete strength and diameter of reinforcing bar like the existing data. It might be because of the roughness from rust. As expected, the bond strength increases as compressive strength of concrete increases and the diameter of bar decreases.

  • Epoxy-coated re-bar was partly used to the structures and put to practical use, but were not economical and appeared to have defects such as the diminishing of long term bond strength between concrete. The study of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar was started in order to complement the defect of epoxy coated re-bar, and ever since the basic properties appeared to be excellent. But, study of bond properties embedded in concrete specimens was insufficient until now. This study attempts to examine the possibility of improving the bond strength of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar between concrete specimens in accordance with ACI Code and KS Code through pull-out test of 150mm$\times$150mm$\times$150mm substrates with polymer cement slurry coated re-bar having polymer cement ratios of 50%, 75% and 100%, coating thickness 250${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 450 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and with curing ages of 3, 7 and 28 days. High strength concrete was designed having a compressive strength of 500kgf/cm2 as specified. Practical bond length ranges of 55 and 85mm were applied to each of specimen. The bond strength of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar using St/BA-1 and St/BA-2 was compared to that of plain re-bar. The results of this study showed that the bond strength of 55mm bond length was much higher than that of 85mm bond length.

  • In this paper, single fiber pull-out test is used to measure the interfacial bonding shear strength of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy composite with temperature. Fiber and matrix of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy composite are respectively $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy and epoxy resin. To strengthen the interfacial bonding shear stress, various surface treatments are used. They are the hand-sanded surface treatment, the acid etched surface treatment and the silane coupled surface treatment etc.. The interfacial bonding shear strength of surface treated shape memory alloy fiber is greater than that of surface untreated shape memory alloy fiber by from 10% to 16%. It is assured that the hand-sanded surface treatment and the acid etched surface treatment are the best way to strengthen the interfacial bonding shear strength of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory composite. The best treatment condition of surface is 10% HNO$_3$ solution in the etching method to strengthen the interfacial bonding shear strength of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy composite.

  • Kinds, shapes and fraction ratios of fibers have influence on properties of HPFRCC(High-Performance Fiver Reinforced Cementitious Concrete) like bending strength, strain capacity and fracture toughness. For example, hydrophilic fibers have different chemical bond strength from hydrophobic fibers, fiber shapes influence on fiber pull-out and rupture, and fiber volume fraction influence on bending strength. In this study, to estimate influences of kinds, shapes and fraction ratios of fibers, we make HFRCC with 3 kind of fiber in various volume fraction of fiber and compare cracking, bending strength and fracture toughness. As the results, bending strength of HPFRCC was increased as fiber volume fraction was increase and fiber tensile strength was increase, and strain capacity and fracture toughness of HFRCC was higher in fiber pull-out fracture than in fiber rupture fracture. And HFRCC showing pseudo strain hardening has higher fiber reinforce efficiency than others.

  • Most of the piles are designed as group piles. In certain geotechnical environments, the installation of group piles causes heaving of the already installed piles. The unfavorable effects of pile heaving on pile bearing capacity have been well known to field engineers. However not many engineers pay enough attention to this subject. According to our recent researches, not only the bearing capacity but also the pile material could be seriously damaged due to the installation of nearby piles, especially with the cases of precast concrete piles. When the pull-out force due to installation of neighboring piles acting on the already installed precast concrete pile exceeds the shaft friction, pile heaving occurs. At the same time, if the pull-out force exceeds the allowable tensile strength of the precast concrete pile, tensile failure is inevitable, which is critical for the pile integrity. In other cases the pile material was not damaged but serious relaxation occurred as the results of pile heaving. In this paper, the pull-out mechanism due to the installation of group piles is explained.

  • A novel type of steel fiber with a rounded-end shape is presented to improve the bonding behavior of fibers with Carbon Nanotubes (CNT)-reinforced Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) matrix. For this purpose, by performing a parametric study and using the nonlinear finite element method, the impact of geometric characteristics of the fiber end on its bonding behavior with UHPC has been studied. The cohesive zone model investigates the interface between the fibers and the cement matrix. The mechanical properties of the cohesive zone model are determined by calibrating the finite element results and the experimental fiber pull-out test. Also, the results are evaluated with the straight steel fibers outcomes. Using the novel presented fibers, the bond strength has significantly improved compared to the straight steel fibers. The new proposed fibers increase bond strength by 1.1 times for the same diameter of fibers. By creating fillet at the contact area between the rounded end and the fiber, bond strength is significantly improved, the maximum fiber capacity is reachable, and the pull-out occurs in the form of fracture and tearing of the fibers, which is the most desirable bonding mode for fibers. This also improves the energy absorbed by the fibers and is 4.4 times more than the corresponding straight fibers.
