This paper describes typical design and construction practice for in-situ ground reinforcement technique using improved steel pipe pressure grouting. A case history is presented to illustrate the benefit gained by application of the technique. This technique was applied to cut slopes developed in the construction of auxiliary spillway of 00 dam. Applicable conditions, method of survey, slope stability analysis and construction are given in this parer. As for the construction method, a procedure is given and the main points are the control of construction work. As a result of the pull-out test, it is shown that seel pipe nailing is particularly useful for stabilizing rock slope.

In the present study, laboratory pull-out tests with various geogrid shapes are carried out to investigate behavior characteristics of the geogrid. Also, an interface pullout formula is proposed for predicting and interpreting pullout test result. The analytical model is based on the assumption that the reinforcement is linear elastic during the pullout test. And then, maximum pullout force, frictional resistance and active length for each of the grid density ratio are predicted based on the interface pullout formula. The predicted results were compared with those of pullout tests, and showed in general good agreements.

This paper describes the experimental study on the structural behavior of the vertical plane connection between a reinforced concrete wall and a steel plate concrete wall under out-of-plane flexural loads. The specimen was tested under a dynamic test with the use of cyclic loads. As a result of the test, ductile failure mode of vertical bars was shown under a push load and the failure load was more than that of the nominal strength of the specimen. However, the shear failure mode of the connection was confirmed in case of a pull test and thus demonstrates a need for a shear reinforcement.

An experimental investigation was conducted to compare the bond strength of reinforcing steel in self-consolidating concrete (SCC) with conventional concrete (CC). This study investigated two different compressive strengths of SCC as well as CC. The experimental program consisted of 24 pull-out specimens as well as 12 full-scale beams (three for each concrete type and strength). The pull-out specimens were based on RILEM recommendations, and the beam specimens were tested under a simply supported four-point loading condition. The CC test results served as a control and were used to evaluate the results from the SCC pull-out and beam specimen tests. Furthermore, a comparison was performed between results of this study and a bond database of CC specimens. These comparisons indicate that SCC beams possess comparable or slightly greater bond strength than CC beams.

An experimental investigation on the reinforcing bar corrosion and relationshid of reinforcing bar and concrete bond strength has been conducted to establish the allowable limit of rust in the construction field. The reinforcing bars used in this study were rusted before embedding in concrete. The first component of this experiment is to make rust of reinforcing bar rust artificially based on Faraday's theory at certain rates such as 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% of reinforcing bar weight. For estimation of the amount of rust by weight, Clarke's solution and Shot blasting were adopted and compared. Parameters include 240 and 450kg/㎠ of compressive strengths and diameter of reinforcing bar (16, 19 and 25mm) corresponding development length for pull-ort test. And, pull-out tests were carried. out according to KSF 2441 and ASTMC 234 to investigate the effect of the corrosion rate on reinforcing bar-concrete bond behavior. It is found from the test results that the test techniques for corrosion of bar used in this study is relatively effective and correct test method. Results shows that up to 2% of rust increases the bond strength regardless of concrete strength and diameter of reinforcing bar like the existing data. It might be because of the roughness from rust. As expected, the bond strength increases as compressive strength of concrete increases and the diameter of bar decreases.

To evaluate the tractive performance of tracked trencher on seafloor surface, a new shear stress-displacement empirical model was proposed for saturated soft-plastic soil (SSP model). To validate the SSP model, a test platform, where track segment shear test can be performed in seafloor soil simulacrum (bentonite water mixture), was built. Series shear tests were carried out. Test results indicate that the SSP model can describe the mechanical behavior of track segment with good approximation in seafloor soil simulacrum. Through analyzing the main external forces applied to seafloor tracked trencher during the uniform linear trenching process, a drawbar pull prediction model was deduced with the SSP model. A tracked walking mechanism of the seafloor tracked trencher prototype was built, and verification tests were carried out. Test results indicate that this prediction model was feasible and effective; moreover, from another side, this conclusion also proved that the SSP model was effective.

This study is to examine bond strength of beam reinforced with GFRP rebar under 4-point bending test by adopting BRITISH STANDARD. The variables were made to have bonding length of 5times$(5d_b)$, 10times$(10d_b)$ and 15times$(15d_b)$ of the nominal diameter of GFRP rebar and were done to analyze the relationship between the bonding strength and the slip. In the result of the test, pull-out failure was dominant in the $5d_b$ and $10d_b$ specimen, both patterns of the pull-out failure and concrete splitting failure appeared in the $10d_b$. On the other hand, the $15d_b$ specimen showed only concrete splitting failure at the end of bonding length. Therefore, it was prove that available bonding length of the GFRP rebar under bending condition on static test is over $15d_b$ then farther research such as fatigue bending test, development of bonding model, FEM parameter study should be performed.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the structural capacity of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors by pull-out test. Compressive strength testing of concrete was conducted and yield forces, tensile strengths and elongation ratios of re-bars and hollow steel plate were investigated. A 2,000kN capacity UTM was used for the pull-out test with 0.01mm/sec velocity by displacement control method. Strain gauges were installed at the center of re-bars and hollow steel plates and LVDTs were also installed to measure the relative displacement between the loading plate and in-filled concrete pile specimens. The yield forces of the steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors were increased 1.44-fold and 1.53-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively. Limited state forces of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors were increased 1.23-fold and 1.29-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively. Yield state displacement and limited state displacement of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connector were decreased 0.61-fold and 0.42-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively.
Purpose: Modifications of implant design have been related to improving initial stability. The purpose of this study was to investigate their respective effect on initial stability between two tapered implant systems (self-tapping vs. non-self-tapping) in medium density bone using three different analytic methods. Materials and Methods: Self-tapping implant (GS III$^{(R)}$; Osstem Implant Co., Busan, Korea) and non-self-tapping implant (Replace Select$^{(R)}$; Nobel Biocare, G$\H{o}$teborg, Sweden) were investigated. In Solid rigid polyurethane blocks of artificially simulated Quality 2 bone, each of the 5 implants was inserted according to the manufacturer's instructions for medium-bone drilling protocol. Evaluation of initial stability was carried out by recording the maximum insertion torque (IT) and performing the resonance frequency analysis (RFA), and the pull-out test. Results: The IT and RFA values of self-tapping implant were significantly higher than those of non self-tapping implant (P=.009 and P=.047, respectively). In the pull-out values, no significant differences were found in implants between two groups (P=.117). Within each implant system, no statistically significant correlation was found among three different outcome variables. Conclusions: These findings suggest that design characteristics of implant geometry significantly influence the initial stability in medium bone density.
