  • Proper and precise embedding of commercial ads within Webpages requires Ad-hoc analysis and understanding of their content. By the successful implementation of this step, both publishers and advertisers gain mutual benefits through increasing their revenues on the one hand, and improving user experience on the other. In this research work, we propose a novel multi-level context-based ads serving approach through which ads will be served at generic publisher websites based on their contextual relevance. In the proposed approach, knowledge encoded in domain-specific and generic semantic repositories is exploited in order to analyze and segment Webpages into sets of contextually-relevant segments. Semantically-enhanced indexes are also constructed to index ads based on their textual descriptions provided by advertisers. A modified cosine similarity matching algorithm is employed to embed each ad from the Ads repository into one or more contextually-relevant segments. In order to validate our proposal, we have implemented a prototype of an ad serving system with two datasets that consist of (11429 ads and 93 documents) and (11000 documents and 15 ads), respectively. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques, we experimentally tested the proposed method and compared the produced results against five baseline metrics that can be used in the context of ad serving systems. In addition, we compared the results produced by our system with other state-of-the-art models. Findings demonstrate that the accuracy of conventional ad matching techniques has improved by exploiting the proposed semantically-enhanced context-based ad serving model.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the textbook content, specifically that of the oral health units, of Korean elementary health textbooks in order to discuss oral health education in elementary schools through textbooks. Methods: The study analyzed the "oral health" units of six health textbooks for students in the fifth and sixth grades of elementary school in Korea. It identified the number of pictures, practice contents, and summaries in the textbooks, calculating the proportion of oral health units relative to the total number of pages in the textbook and comparing the learning goals provided by the WHO with the education contents. In addition, the study also analyzed several keywords from the textbooks in terms of whether they relate to oral health. Results: The comprehensive analysis on the oral health units within the three health textbooks analyzed revealed that all three were similar, except that the textbook from publisher A did not include an introduction. The three textbooks also had differences in terms of the organization of the contents. In terms of the learning goals of the oral health units, there were differences between the WHO standards and the learning goals from the textbooks, with the WHO standards only partially reflected. The analysis also showed that there were more keywords on oral diseases than those related to oral health management and prevention. Conclusions: Improvements should be made regarding the learning goals and education topics of health education in order to ensure that children receive a more systematic oral health education in their earlier years, which will help to develop and correct oral health management habits among elementary school students.

  • Since research articles aren't be fixed in particular system, author name of articles have been handled not by authority control but by unique identifier. While unique identifier has a tendency that moves toward open-transparent global link system, lately ORCID has been initiated. ORCID is not only link diverse existing ID system as a partner, for example, publisher's ID systems, university's research assessment systems, manuscript tracking systems but also let researchers self-claim by themselves to identify their own articles. Though, since ORCID run based on overseas' publications, it is not appropriate to adapt ORCID shortly to Korean researcher's identification. So this study suggests the direction of domestic researcher's identification system by applying ORCID.

  • This study is to investigate the level and connection of learning concepts related to metabolism presented in life science textbooks developed according to the national common basic curriculum. One kind of elementary school, and three kinds of middle school and high school science textbooks were analysed. The gross number of concepts related to metabolism was 42 in elementary, 149 in middle and 126 in high school science textbooks. The number of concepts was much more different by school than by publisher. Ratio of the number of concrete versus formal concepts decreased gradationally by grade, but the number of learning concepts increased radically by grade. Thus, it is implied that science learning concepts are presented considering the number of concepts as well as cognitive level of learner, and unit and content are constructed on the connection among them in developing science curriculum and textbooks.

  • This study attempts at the engraving place of wood-printing plates held in the Haein Temple(해인사), which were famous for playing the significant role in the understanding of publishing activities of both the Koryo and Choson Dynasty. Following the common way the bibliographic elements of the books were analyzed namely according to the publication place and the publisher. The findings derived from the analysis are summarized as follows; In the Haeinsa the wood-printing plates books are preserved moved from 17 temples such as Bongso-Sa(봉서사), Hago-Sa(하고사), Soksuam(석수암), Inhung-Sa(인흥사), Wonkwang-Sa(월광사), Sinha-Sa(신하사), Gunsyaeng-Sa(군생사), Jangsu-Sa(장수사), Yongtong-Sa(영통사), Wonjok-Sa(원적사), Unjin(은진) SSanggye-Sa(쌍계사), Songsan(성산) SSanggye-Sa(쌍계사), Hungyul-Sa(흥률사), Jongwon-Sa(정원사), Yon-Sa(연사), Gamro-Sa(감로사), Yongguam(영귀암) besides the publications of temples, there are publications of local branches of gangyengdogam(간경도감) such as Jinju(진주), Sangju(진주), Sangju(상주), Andong(안동), of local public agencies such as Gaelimbu(계림부), Dalsunggwan(달성관), and of private families of which 8 titles in the Koryo Dynasty and 13 titles of the Choson Dynasty. Among the "SSanggyae-Sa(쌍계사) publication" held in the Haeinsa, 9 titles including Chimungyonghun(치문경훈) are recklesaly preserved with dividing both in Gap temple(갑사) and in Haeinsa as the same publication. It is possible that other scattered present publications or remaining publications might have been remaining publication from those partly burnt ones of the complete publications. By means of the investigation on the catalogs of publications, 5 titles such as <> <> <> <> <> which are now kept in the Haeinsa moved from the Taegubu(대구부) or Yongyon-Sa(용연사) were newly identified.

  • Over the years, great attention has been paid to the question of exploiting inherent semantic of HTML in the area of web document retrieval. Although HTML is mainly presentation oriented, HTML tags implicitly contain useful semantics that can be catch meaning of text. Focusing on this idea. in this paper we define 'markup pattern' and try to improve performance of web document retrieval using markup patterns. Markup pattern is a mirror of intends of web document publisher and an internal semantic of text on web document. To discover the markup pattern and exploit it, we suggest a new scheme for extracting concepts and weighting documents. For evaluation task, we select two domains-BBC and CNN web sites, and use their search engines to gather domain documents. We re-weight and re-score documents using proposed scheme, and show the performance improvement in the two domains.

  • In the field of science and technology, influential international journals can easily be found in SCIE. A total number of journals published by societies or institutes in Korea are only 82 of the 8,300 SCIE titles. In this study, in light of the SCI criteria the detailed analysis, of these journals was performed for Korean SCIE journals. The results show that in general domestic journals were not actively cited, had a low level of internationality, and user services through the website was insufficient. Korean SCIE journals should continue to complement these points and elevate its reputation. Candidate journals should concentrate on recruiting more excellent papers, promoting communication with foreign researchers, enhancing domestic and international public relations, and the like. To actively support the domestic publication of excellent journals, long-term and short-term measures should be established and consistently practiced at the national level.

  • To solve various problems of the Internet as well as to enhance network performance, various future Internet architectures utilize cached data in network nodes or in proxy servers. Named-data networking (NDN), one of future Internet architectures, implements in-network data caching functionality, and then responds itself to request messages. However, it can cause users' privacy invasion that the publisher of data can not engage in the sharing/using process of the data anymore after the data was cached in-network. So NDN implements both encryption-based access control and group access control. But, since such access control schemes need to exchange additional messages in order to search for a proper access control list and keys, it causes inefficiency. This paper surveys the access control schemes of NDN, and then proposes an improved scheme.

  • The Trust and Authority in Scholarly Communications in the Light of the Digital Transition research project1) was a study which investigated the behaviours and attitudes of academic researchers as producers and consumers of scholarly information resources in respect to how they determine authority and trustworthiness. The research questions for the study arose out of CIBER's studies of the virtual scholar. This paper focuses on elements of this study, mainly an analysis of a scholarly publisher's usage logs, which was undertaken at the start of the project in order to build an evidence base, which would help calibrate the main methodological tools used by the project: interviews and questionnaire. The specific purpose of the log study was to identify and assess the digital usage behaviours that potentially raise trustworthiness and authority questions. Results from the self-report part of the study were additionally used to explain the logs. The main findings were that: 1) logs provide a good indicator of use and information seeking behaviour, albeit in respect to just a part of the information seeking journey; 2) the 'lite' form of information seeking behaviour observed in the logs is a sign of users trying to make their mind up in the face of a tsunami of information as to what is relevant and to be trusted; 3) Google and Google Scholar are the discovery platforms of choice for academic researchers, which partly points to the fact that they are influenced in what they use and read by ease of access; 4) usage is not a suitable proxy for quality. The paper also provides contextual data from CIBER's previous studies.
