  • The power analysis attack is a cryptanalytic technique to retrieve an user's secret key using the side-channel power leakage occurred during the execution of cryptographic algorithm embedded on a physical device. Especially, many power analysis attacks have targeted on an exponentiation algorithm which is composed of hundreds of squarings and multiplications and adopted in public key cryptosystem such as RSA. Recently, a new correlation power attack, which is tried when two modular multiplications have a same input, is proposed in order to recover secret key. In this paper, after reviewing the principle of side-channel attack based on input collisions in modular multiplications, we analyze the vulnerability of some exponentiation algorithms having regularity property. Furthermore, we present an improved exponentiation countermeasure to resist against the input collision-based CPA(Correlation Power Analysis) attack and existing side channel attacks and compare its security with other countermeasures.

  • This paper proposes a multi-stage encryption technique to enhance the level of secrecy of image to facilitate its secured transmission through the public network. A great number of researches have been done on image secrecy. The existing image encryption techniques like visual cryptography (VC), steganography, watermarking etc. while are applied individually, usually they cannot provide unbreakable secrecy. In this paper, through combining several separate techniques, a hybrid multi-stage encryption technique is proposed which provides nearly unbreakable image secrecy, while the encryption/decryption time remains almost the same of the exiting techniques. The technique consecutively exploits VC, steganography and one time pad (OTP). At first it encrypts the input image using VC, i.e., splits the pixels of the input image into multiple shares to make it unpredictable. Then after the pixel to binary conversion within each share, the exploitation of steganography detects the least significant bits (LSBs) from each chunk within each share. At last, OTP encryption technique is applied on LSBs along with randomly generated OTP secret key to generate the ultimate cipher image. Besides, prior to sending the OTP key to the receiver, first it is converted from binary to integer and then an asymmetric cryptosystem is applied to encrypt it and thereby the key is delivered securely. Finally, the outcome, the time requirement of encryption and decryption, the security and statistical analyses of the proposed technique are evaluated and compared with existing techniques.

  • Stream cipher is an one-time-pad type encryption algorithm that encrypt plaintext using simple operation such as XOR with random stream of bits (or characters) as symmetric key and its security depends on the randomness of used stream. Therefore we can design more secure stream cipher algorithm by using mathematical analysis of the stream such as period, linear complexity, non-linearity, correlation-immunity, etc. The key stream in stream cipher is generated in linear feedback shift register(LFSR) having characteristic polynomial. The primitive polynomial is the characteristic polynomial which has the best security property. It is used widely not only in stream cipher but also in SEED, a block cipher using 8-degree primitive polynomial, and in Chor-Rivest(CR) cipher, a public-key cryptosystem using 24-degree primitive polynomial. In this paper we present the concept and various properties of primitive polynomials in Galois field and prove the theorem finding the number of irreducible polynomials and primitive polynomials over $F_p$ when p is larger than 2. This kind of research can be the foundation of finding primitive polynomials of higher security and developing new cipher algorithms using them.

  • Comparable encryption allows a verifier to test whether given two ciphertexts from a probabilistic public key cryptosystem are encryption of the same message without decrypting them. Recently, Yang et al. proposed such scheme and Lee et al. and Tang independently modified Yang et al.'s system to restrict the entity who can perform the verification. However, the original Yang et al.'s scheme has a flaw that enables two ciphertexts which are not encryption of the same message to pass the test. In this paper, we concretely show the faults in all three schemes considered and analyze the effect of this flaw in the use of such schemes in applications.

  • Buyer-seller watermarking protocol is one of the copyright protection techniques which combine a cryptographic protocol used in electronic commerce with a digital wetermarking scheme aiming at proving the ownership of multimedia contents and preventing the illegal reproduction and redistribution of digital contents. In this paper, it is proposed a new watermarking scheme in an encrypted domain in an image that is based on the block-DCT framework. In order to implement watermarking scheme in a public-key cryptosystem, it is divided that frequency coefficients exist as real number into integer and decimal layer. And the decimal layer is modified integer type through integral-processing. Also, for robustness and invisibility required in watermarking scheme, it is designed a direction-adaptive watermarking scheme based on locally edge-properties of each block in an image through analyzing distribution property of the frequency coefficients in a block using JND threshold.

  • We propose a new authenticated encryption scheme that does not require any block encryption algorithm. Our scheme is based on the Horster-Michels-Petersen authenticated encryption scheme, and it uses a technique in the Bae~Deng signcryption scheme so that the sender's signature can be verified by an arbitrary third party. Since our scheme does not use any block encryption algorithm, we can reduce the code size in its implementation. The computation and communication costs of the proposed scheme are almost the same as those of the Bao-Deng scheme that uses a block encryption algorithm. Our scheme also satisfies all the security properties such as confidentiality, authenticity and nonrepudiation.

  • We present an efficient hardware prime generator that generates a prime p by combining trial division and Fermat test in parallel. Since the execution time of this parallel combination is greatly influenced by the number k of the smallest odd primes used in the trial division, it is important to determine the optimal k to create the fastest parallel combination. We present probabilistic analysis to determine the optimal k and to estimate the expected running time for the parallel combination. Our analysis is conducted in two stages. First, we roughly narrow the range of optimal k by using the expected values for the random variables used in the analysis. Second, we precisely determine the optimal k by using the exact probability distribution of the random variables. Our experiments show that the optimal k and the expected running time determined by our analysis are precise and accurate. Furthermore, we generalize our analysis and propose a guideline for a designer of a hardware prime generator to determine the optimal k by simply calculating the ratio of M to D, where M and D are the measured running times of a modular multiplication and an integer division, respectively.

  • Buyer-seller watermarking protocol is defined as the practice of imperceptible altering a digital content to embed a message using watermarking in the encryption domain. This protocol is acknowledged as one kind of copyright protection techniques in electronic commerce. Buyer-seller watermarking protocol is fundamentally based on public-key cryptosystem that is operating using the algebraic property of an integer. However, in general usage, digital contents which are handled in watermarking scheme mostly exist as real numbers in frequency domain through DCT, DFT, DWT, etc. Therefore, in order to use the watermarking scheme in a cryptographic protocol, digital contents that exist as real number must be transformed into integer type through preprocessing beforehand. In this paper, we presented a new watermarking scheme in an encrypted domain in an image that is based on the block-DCT framework and homomorphic encryption method for buyer-seller watermarking protocol. We applied integral-processing in order to modify the decimal layer. And we designed a direction-adaptive watermarking scheme by analyzing distribution property of the frequency coefficients in a block using JND threshold. From the experimental results, the proposed scheme was confirmed to have a good robustness and invisibility.

  • The cloud computing is a system that provides IT resources service by using internet technologies, which grabs lots of attention today. Though cloud storage services provide service users with convenience, there is a problem in which data confidentiality is not guaranteed because it is hard for data owners to control the access to the data. This article suggested the technique by applying Public-Key Cryptosystem only to a block after dividing users' data into blocks in order to protect users' data in cloud system. Thus confidentiality and integrity are given to users' data stored in cloud storage server.

  • This paper presents a new digit level LSB-first multiplier for computing a modular multiplication and a modular squaring simultaneously over finite field GF($2^m$). To derive $L{\times}L$ digit level architecture when digit size is set to L, the previous algorithm is used and index transformation and merging the cell of the architecture are proposed. The proposed architecture can be utilized for the basic architecture for the crypto-processor and it is well suited to VLSI implementation because of its simplicity, regularity, and concurrency.
