  • ITS(Intelligent transportation system) provides users with realtime traffic information based on technologies such as advanced information & telecommunication, electronic control and transportation engineering. To operate efficient ITS, it is necessary to quickly identify and take actions for incidents(accidents, broken vehicles, public functions, traffic control, etc.). However, there have been few reliable incident detection algorithms developed so far. The algorithm presented in this study greatly resolved the problems in the existing incident detection algorithms, which determine incidents according to the input of constant values, by defining ranges based on the concept of pseudo level of service. With this improvement, operators can determine the incident detection parameters more accurately.

  • In order to solve urban transportation problems, the various alternatives are presented to the public transportation system but the master plan of construction and operation is that there is no validity. PRT unlike other public transport system, is a new transport system that can respond appropriately, to solve the traffic demand, environmental and energy problems. Meanwhile, national and international PRT system was not commercially and the actual construction and operation of the PRT in case of base research is not well established. In this paper, PRT concept was established as the new transportation system, the target area(Nan-gok area) was selected to examine the feasibility of PRT systems and the corridor analysis method has been developed to predict the PRT demand as a basic material of planning process.

  • In studies involving public transport, social welfare improvement is simply explained by the increase in public transport demand. However, the increase in the demand for public transport is mostly observed by the change in the frequency of public transport service, and in-vehicle crowding in public transport has not been an object of concern. This study examines and tries to reveal the cause of the changes of the social welfare and in-vehicle crowding of the changing public transport from imposing congestion pricing. We observe that congestion pricing increases in-vehicle crowding in public transport. This predictable phenomenon is more exacerbated in case of not operating bus-only lane. It should be noted that in-vehicle crowding is more increased in suburban, but in First-best toll system it tends to get worse less than it in other congestion pricing systems. We identify that the change of in-vehicle crowding is affected by the change of proximity of the housing to workplace, the number of commuting trips, and unpredictable distortion effect of the congestion charge.

  • Due to the gravitation of the population to Metropoleis caused by the radical industrialization and urbanization after the 1960s. most Korean cities not only have shown the deformed urban structure, but also have faced many serious problems in the public transit system. Especially, the medium-sized cities as the center of the local life have been under the low level of public transit service because of their poor transportation facilities and inefficient operations. Under these conditions, this study aims at improving its level and quality in the local midium-sized cities by performing the following; . to suggest the new idea of the public transit policies for the medium-sized cities. . to develop the Bus Transit Management System and its related computer programs. . to apply the design policies and methods to the Suwon life-circle in order to evaluate their performance.

  • Boundary Station is an evaluation index that was not reflected in the Seoul Metropolitan Urban Railroad Connected Eare Allocation. Boundary station is a station located at the boundary point of two transportation agencies sharing the same route, and track operation methods are divided into business management and maintenance management. Until now, the Connected Fare Allocation has evaluated the boundary stations from the perspective of business management. Meanwhile, the integrated public transportation fee system requires the need to interpret the boundary stations from the point of view of maintenance management at the developmental level. This study was prepared a measure to quantitatively analyze changes in income with the introduction of maintenance methods in mind. The Change in the income of operation agency evaluated based on the daily transportation card data for the boundary stations of the four Seoul Transportation Corporation and KORAIL sections. This study is meaningful as a basic research for an analytical judgment that evaluates and allocates changes in transportation income of Seoul Metropolitan Urban Railroad in the future.

  • As public transportation use increases, studies are being conducted to consider user convenience using IoT data collected via the bus information system. A low-floor bus means a bus that is designed to be 20 cm lower than a normal bus and can be wheelchair-accessible. However, the system in which the transportation weak is provided to use the low-floor bus is less than the system provided to the general user. In order to use the low-floor bus smoothly, as in the case of the general user, the service system for the weak driver is needed. In this paper, a low - floor bus reservation system is designed to provide a service for low - rise bus users to conveniently use low - floor buses.

  • The PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) system is a new transportation system in accordance with the requirements of the passengers. Although this PRT system was proposed a long time ago, it did not hold the limelight due to the several limitations in technology. However, the research and development has been active again recently thanks to the development in technology and the review on its applicability as the means of transportation linking to the urban transit system. Although most of these recent studies in relation to the PRT are focused on the hardware such as PRT vehicles or track structures, etc., the operational aspect of it is more important than that of any other means of public transportation. Therefore, among studies on operational aspect of this PRT system, this paper shows the result of study on technology in relation to the movement of vehicle to the station where it was called by the passenger through interface of the wayside control center with the vehicle control system in case where the passenger calls a vehicle at the station.

  • Since introduced in 1997, the transportation card system in Korea has been developed up to the world-top-tier technical level and gradually implemented in many other countries. Especially, the public transportations are significantly considered in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emission and environment pollution. In addition, a nation-wide transportation card system will be feasibly completed until 2013. However, for overcoming user's inconvenience, the unmanned sales/charging machines of the cards should be urgently required. In this paper, a new integrated operating system for unmanned sales/charging machines of such cards is designed and implemented by analyzing problems of the existing machines. The proposed system is hierarchically composed of multiple modules; machine initialization, work finishing, sales, charging, A/S handling, and management modules. We established and operated this machine in Seoul and Gyeonggi region. This research demonstrates that spread of the user-friendly integrated operating system improve user's convenience especially with respect to interoperability among transportation means and their areas.

  • "The guidelines on the management of indoor air quality of public transportation" was enacted in December 2006 due to the fact that the interest and demand of improving the air quality for citizen using public transportation have been increased. Thus this research has considered what has influenced on the passenger cabin HVAC as well as the improvement of customer service as we proceed the study for better indoor air quality inside of the train by developing the module of cleaning air system for pollutants of a car air.

  • Public bicycle system (PBS) is a new emerging and popular mode of public transportation. PBS data can be adopted to analyze human movement patterns. Previous work usually focused on specific scales, and the relationships between different levels of hierarchies are ignored. In this paper, we introduce a multi-scale and interactive visual analytics system to investigate human cycling movement and PBS usage condition. The system supports level-of-detail explorative analysis of spatio-temporal characteristics in PBS. Visual views are designed from global, regional and microcosmic scales. For the regional scale, a bicycle network is constructed to model PBS data, and an flow-based community detection algorithm is applied on the bicycle network to determine station clusters. In contrast to the previous used Louvain algorithm, our method avoids producing super-communities and generates better results. We provide two cases to demonstrate how our system can help analysts explore the overall cycling condition in the city and spatio-temporal aggregation of stations.
