  • Rates of $H_2$ uptake into $Pt/MoO_3$ were measured for the noncalcined and $200^{\circ}C$ calcined $Pt/MoO_3$. Amount of $H_2$ uptake for $200^\circ{C}$calcined $Pt/MoO_3$ was greater than the amount of noncalcined $Pt/MoO_3$. From these two experiments, it was found that the rates of $H_2$ desorption were proportional to the increase of desorption temperature. XPS demonstrated that Cl reduced more faster in ITR after calcination at $200^{\circ}C$. This inducd smaller amount of residual chlorine at adlineation sites between Pt and $MoO_3$ substrates. This resulted in opening the more channel of hydrogen pathway into more $MoO_3$particles and controled the kinetics of hydrogen uptake.

  • sothemal reduction at $50^{\circ}C$ using $Pt/MoO_3$ or $Pt/MoO_3/SiO_2$ made by dry impregnation or physical mixture of $Pt^{\circ}$ and $MoO_3$ demonstrated that the $H_2$ uptake vis $H_2$ spillover from Pt into $MoO_3$ was enhanced as calcination temperature was increased. Surface area of exposed Pt crystallites measured by CO chemisorption was decreased with higher calcination temperature. In addition, TEM showed that $MoO_x$ overlayers were formed on Pt crystallites after calcination at $400^{\circ}C$. Consequentially, it was found that this increased active contact sites between Pt and $MoO_3$ due to surface morphological change was one of the dominant factors for this increased $H_2$uptake via $H_2$ spillover from Pt crystallites into $MoO_3$.

  • Skeletal isomerization reaction known as exothermic reaction shows possible maximum yield of i-butene from n-butene at $110^{\circ}C$ over $Pt/MoO_3/SiO_2$. Compared with conventional catalyst such as silica, zeolite, alumina etc., $Pt/MoO_3/SiO_2$ demonstrates higher yield while by-products except 2-butene do not form. Faster H spillover rate over $Pt/MoO_3/SiO_2$ is demonstrated via isothermal reduction experiment at $110^{\circ}C$ compared to the rate over $Pt/MoO_3/Al_2O_3$. Overall isomerization rates are proportional to higher spillover rates from Pt onto $MoO_3$ surface. The skeletal isomerization reaction is composed of two elementary steps. First, carbonium ion formation over Pt crystallites by H spillover. Second, carbenium ion formation over $MoO_3$ followed by formation of i-butene. Moreover, it is suggested that H spillover step from Pt surface onto $MoO_3$ is assumed to be the rate determining step and control the overall isomerization rate.

  • [ $H_2$ ] uptake into $Pt/MoO_{3}$ was enhanced with an increased calcination temperature. Selective CO pulse chemisorption demonstrated that free Pt surface area was decreased as calcination temperature was increased. Characteristic techniques were dedicated to elucidate the closer contact at adlineation sites between Pt and $MoO_3$ substrates. Calcination resulted in supplying the hydrogen access into more $MoO_3$ particles and controlling the kinetics of hydrogen uptake.

  • Pellet type $Pt/MoO_{3}$ gas sensor which is operating at much lower temperature than conventional ceramic sensors such as $SnO_{2}$ or ZnO was fabricated. Morphology and crystal structure of $Pt/MoO_{3}$ according to calcination temperature have been characterized with Transmission Electron microscopy and X-Ray powder diffraction. The characterization indicates that as calcination temperature is increased, overlayers of $MoO_{3}$ on Pt are produced, but additionally, the Cl content associated with the Pt phase diminishes. The gas dasorption test showed that the change in surface morphology is closely related to hydrogen storage capacity of the sample. The gas sensitivities at $50^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$ are very high.

  • 1wt% Pt/MoO$_3$ gas sensors for detecting H$_2$ gas were fabricated by the pressed pellet method and surface structures of Pt/MoO$_2$ were investigated by TEM and XRD. It was observed that as the calcination temperature is increased, the overlayers of MoO$_3$ on Pt are produced, but the Cl content in PtCl$\_$x/ are decreased. H$_2$ gas sensing properties in N$_2$ ambient and in air ambient were investigated, respectively, and Pt/MoO$_3$ had high sensitivity at low working temp ; 7.8% at 50$^{\circ}C$, 97.7% at 100$^{\circ}C$, 97.1% at 150$^{\circ}C$ when the specimens are treated at 400$^{\circ}C$, and 99.6% at 150$^{\circ}C$ when they are treated at 200$^{\circ}C$. It shows the development of a low-power type sensor is possible by using Pt/MoO$_3$.

  • Pt-$MoO_3$ electrodes were fabricated on ITO-coated glass by electrodeposition method using 20 mM hydrogen hexachloroplatinate ($H_2PtCl_6$) and 10 mM Mo-peroxo electrolyte. Deposition order was varied, and catalytic activities of synthesized electrodes were compared with that of pure Pt electrode. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was utilized to examine surface morphology. The crystallinity of synthesized films was analyzed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and the oxidation state of both the platinum and molybdenum were determined by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. The catalytic activity and stability for methanol oxidation were measured using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA) in a mixture of 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ and 0.5 M $CH_3OH$ aqueous solution. $MoO_3$ electrodeposited on the surface of Pt showed much higher catalytic acitivity and stability than pure Pt electrode due to the good contact between Pt and $MoO_3$.
