The effect of the code conversion process of Korean script (Hangul), also known as words for numbers, was investigated using event-related potentials (ERPs) during mental arithmetic operations. Study subjects were asked to determine whether the arithmetic results of a given target stimuli were correctly matched. Visual inspection and statistics of mean ERPs showed stimulus type-dependent processing rather than task-dependent processing. Results of addition and multiplication tasks revealed that the overall temporal profiles of the Arabic numerals were similar to the Hangul words for numbers. The only exception to this observation was a delayed positive-slope peak occurring around 300 ms, which was likely related to the encoding process of Hangul words for numbers to Arabic-digits, defined as a 'transcoding-related potential.' Source analysis confirmed that the topography of different waveforms for the two conditions was attributed to a single dipole located in the left temporo-parietal area; this area is known to be involved in Hangul words for number processing. These results suggest that the initial processing for encoding words for numbers was followed by arithmetic operations without direct access of internal number representation. Background : Various type of psychological and stressful events in life have been reported to have much effect in the onset, progress and exacerbation of psychosomatic disorders such as hypertension, bronchial asthma, peptic ulcer, tension headache, alopecia areata, and atopic dermatitis. However, the nature of the association between stress and psychosomatic disorders remains unclear. Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the relation of stress and the progress of dermatologic disorder. Method : We examined 30 patients with atopic dermatitis and 30 control subjects with tinea pedis and onychomycosis who visited to Dept. of Dermatology, Chung-Ang University Hospital. To evaluate the stress, we used 'Scale of Life Events' and 'Multidemensional Coping Scale'. Result : 1) The score of life events stress in atopic dermatitis group was significantly higher than that of control group. 2) In the result of coping strategies, the atopic dermatitis group was significantly higher than control group at the active forgetting, positive comparison, and emotional pacification, while in control group religious seeking and accomodation tended to be higher with no statistical significance. Conclusion : These findings suggest that psychosocial stress may play a role in life pattern of atopic dermatitis. But further studies are needed to clarity the exact relationship between stress and psychosomatic disorder.

The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of depression, social isolation, and meaning in life on the swallowing related quality of life in patients with dysphagia. In this study, 87 the dysphagia patients diagnosed with stroke, degenerative disease, and neurological disorder in a general or rehabilitation hospital in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon were assessed. The data were collected between February and April, 2015 using CES-D, RULS, PIL, SWAL-QOL. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 22.0. Of the participants, 20.7% reported having had depression, 92.0% middle-high social isolation and 64.4% existential vacuum. The mean scores were SWAL- QOL 158.89(35.97). Stepwise multiple regression revealed that tube feeding to have the greatest effect on SWAL-QOL(${\beta}=-0.57$, p<.001), followed in order by age (${\beta}=0.26$, p=.001), lower MIL (${\beta}=0.19$ p=.014), and education (${\beta}=0.17$, p=.032). The most influential factor to SWAL-QOL was tube feeding. These variables accounted for 50.7% of SWAL-QOL in dysphagia patients (F=28.84 p=.031). Therefore, it is essential to develop the intervention that can improve the meaning in life in patients with dysphagia. In addition there is a need to study the psychological factors and quality of life of tube feeding.

The purpose of this study is to examine how Korean dance affects middle-aged women by acting as a cultural mediator. A qualitative approach was taken in order to best achieve the purpose of this study. The data used in this study were collected from Feb 10th to April 1st, 2016, using in-depth interviews. The results are as follows; firstly, on an emotional level, the middle-aged women participating in Korean dance as a cultural mediator, feel a sense of self-achievement and social belonging, as well as experiencing an improvement in their psychological stability by resolving their depression. Those who had lost their sense of autonomy and productivity were able to recover some of their self-esteem through this activity. Secondly, in terms of their activity, the Korean dance enabled the ladies to exercise their poorly used muscles by strengthening their gross and fine motor skills through the movements associated with the Korean traditional music. This allowed them to ease their chronic physical pain and it can be considered that their overall exercise function was increased by expanding their exercise radius. Third, in the cognitive area, it was possible for them to revive their happy memories by listening to the music which was loved by their preceding generations. This is because the melody of familiar Korean music provides them with the chance to remember their former days. Lastly, in the social area, the Korean dance allowed the middle-aged women to accept themselves through music and movement, as well as playing the role of a mediator which enabled them to overcome their isolation and the conflicts they face in their social relations. In addition, they achieved self-realization by reconnecting with the regional community through the Korean dance performances, which they learned as social community members.

This study examined the pathological phenomenon of smartphone addiction and prevention. The smartphone provides many conveniences but it also brings psychological and physical problems, such as failure of learning capacity, maladjustment, and impulsive actions. To provide actual proof, this material included correlation analysis among physical, verbal aggression and smartphone addiction factors through high school students. Using SPSSWIN 22.0, frequency analysis, mail factor analysis, T-test, correlation analysis, regression analysis were also included. The main factors of smartphone addiction discrimination were divided into 'aim for imaginary', 'daily obstacles', 'tolerance', 'withdrawal symptom'. Smartphone addicted group members show the result of r=0.668 (physical aggression), r=0.704 (verbal aggression), r=0.481 (hostility). (p< 0.001). This study focused on the aggression from smartphone overuse and the positive effect of music for adolescent's mind stability. Moreover, suggestions for constant research on the pathological phenomena from smartphone addiction and prevention programs are made.

This study examined the effects of a computer-assisted cognitive rehabilitation program on the depression, cognitive functions, and daily functions of stroke patients. Forty-four stroke patients were divided into the treatment group and control group, consisting of 22 patients each. The patients in the treatment group were treated with a computer-assisted cognitive rehabilitation program for 6 weeks, 5 times a week, for a total of 30 times. Depression, cognitive functions, and daily functions was gauged by the BDI, NSCE, and k-MBI, respectively. The treatment group showed decreases in depression, and increases in both cognitive functions and daily functions by the end of the rehabilitation program. Compared to the treatment group, the control group did not show significant improvements in depression, cognitive functions, and daily functions. Therefore, these findings indicate that a computer-assisted cognitive rehabilitation program has a positive effect on depression, cognitive functions, and daily functions in stroke patients.
In this study, we investigated utility of ultrasonography for urinary tract infections of infants. The results of the research is as follows : 1. The number of infants under one year old was 100 out of 122 infants who were diagnosed as a unitary infection. The ratio of males to females was 1.7 : 1. Seventy-seven infants who underwent three kinds of radiologic examinations such as kidney sonography (51%), $^{99m}TC$ DMSA-scan (42%), and VCUG (22%). 2. In comparison of correlation between kidney sonography and VCUG, the sensitivity of kidney sonography was 82% while the specificity of kidney sonography was 58%. In comparison of correlation between kidney sonography and $^{99m}TC$ DMSA-scan, the sensitivity of kidney sonography was 66% while the specificity of kidney sonography was 67%. 3. Utility of kidney sonography showed the highest efficiency when we considered pain, discomfort, a sense of shame, psychological stress when infants may undergo at the examination, side-effect of a contrast agent after the examination, and complication of exposure to radiation.

The number of traffic accidents in Korea has been increasing since 2014. In most school zones, safety signs are installed to prevent children's traffic accidents. However, it has been known that the effects of those signs are not significant. A variable message sign(VMS), one of the components of Intelligent Transport System(ITS), has emerged as an alternative method. Therefore, this study examines relative effects of two different VMS messages(Timely vs. Continuous) on vehicle speed. Experiments were conducted in two school zones. 6,676 vehicles were measured for speed limit compliance. A counterbalanced multiple baseline design was adopted. The results showed that both types of message are effective in reducing the speed of vehicle. Specifically, A timely message was more effective in slowing down vehicle speed and improving speed limit compliance than a continuous message. The present study suggested that a VMS with human factors can be effective.
The purpose of this study is to examine how the workplace bullying recognition level of an employee in Korean foodservice industry, which more strongly depends on human services than other industries, influences on job satisfaction and turnover intention. To this end, we collected 250 samples of employees working in the kitchen of family restaurants. Among the collected 250 sample, 241 samples were usable for the analysis excluding 9. The result is as follows. Firstly, there is a difference in average of satisfaction in work according to each group of causes to recognize workplace bullying. That is, the group which vaguely recognizes bullying as for threat to professional status and isolation, and psychological harassment shows higher satisfaction in work than the group which recognizes the bullying well, which is statistically significant. The latter demonstrates more turnover intention than the former. Secondly, the research examining the effects of the causes of workplace bullying over the employees' satisfaction in work and turnover intention shows the following result. The causes to recognize workplace bullying of the employees have a negative effect(-) on job satisfaction on the whole. The causes to recognize workplace bullying of the employees have a positive influence(+) on turnover intention. In conclusion, manager in foodservice industry will need to provide employees with the environment which can help staff improve cooperation, unity and solidarity within the organization.
