The results of APIM showed that, in father-in law model, actor effects of husbands (the influence of fathers in law acceptance-rejection for husbands on husbands' psychological well-being) were more significant than actor effects of wives (the influence of fathers-in-law's acceptance-rejection for wives on wives' psychological well-being), while partner effects of wives (the influence of fathers in law acceptance-rejection for wives on husbands' psychological well-being) more significant than partner effects of husbands (the influence of fathers' in law's acceptance-rejection for husbands on wives' psychological well-being). In mother-in law model, there were no significant differences both between actor effects of wives and actor effects of husbands, and between partner effects of wives and partner effects of husbands.

  • This study examined the relationships between children's perceptions of mothers' psychological control, and children's behavior problems(depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression). In order to expand the study on the relationships, special attention was given to the possible moderator effects of children's sex and peer acceptance on the relationships. The subjects were 272 6th graders residing in Seoul. It was found that children's perceptions of mothers' psychological control was significantly related with the levels of children's depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression. The results indicated that mothers' higher psychological control was related to higher levels of children's depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression. No significant sex difference was found in the relationship between children's perceptions of mothers' psychological control and children's behavior problems although all of the correlations between mothers' psychological control and each of the behavior problem variables were somewhat higher among boys than among girls. Children's perceptions of peer acceptance were found to be a significant moderator of the relationship between mothers' psychological control and children's depression, and of the relationship between mothers' psychological control and children's aggression. These findings indicated that peer acceptance could function as a protecting factor for children who perceive their mothers to be psychologically controlling.

  • The purpose of this study was to devise an Unconditional Self-Acceptance Development Program and examine the efficacy of the program on alleviating children's depression and improving psychological wellbeing. In order to test the efficacy of the developed program, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS: Hewitt & Flett, 1991), Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ; Chamberalain & Haaga, 2001), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI; Kovacs & Beck, 1977), and Psychological Well-Being Scale(PWBS: Seng Hee Lee, 1999) were used for pre- and post tests. The test results were analyzed using t-tests. Twelve elementary school students suffering from depression participated in eight sessions of the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Development Program, and then were compared with 13 children in the control group who did not receive the treatment. The result was as follows: the treatment group showed statistically significant improvement in unconditional self- acceptance, alleviated level of depression, and increased psychological wellbeing, in comparison with the control group. The findings of this study suggest that unconditional self-acceptance development program should be adopted as a new therapy program for children's depression and psychological wellbeing.

The questionnaires dealing with public/private self-consciousness, adolescent egocentrism, self-efficacy and clothing behaviors were adapted from precious studies. Peer acceptance was measured using Coie and Dodge(1983) method. The data were collected from 485 middle and high school girls living in Seoul, Korea. From the results of multiple regression of psychological characteristics and peer acceptance on clothing behaviors, clothing sexual attractiveness, clothing exhibition, and clothing importance were found to be influenced by public self-consciousness, adolescent egocentrism and peer acceptance. Fashion leadership and psychological dependence were influenced by egocentrism and self-efficacy. Preference for up-to-date style was influenced by egocentrism, public self-consciousness and self-efficacy. One-way ANOVA was used for analyzing the differences in research variables among subject groups classified by sociometric status. From the reset of middle school girls it was revealed that ignored group showed the highest score in clothing importance, whereas both popular group and rejected group showed the lowest score in social self-efficacy. In high school girls, controversial group showed the highest scores in adolescent egocentrism, fashion leadership, and preference for up-to-date style.

The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, multiple regression analysis. The results showed that depression was different in grade, academic stress, major satisfaction of nursing. Depression was correlated with social isolation (r=.47, p<.001), sleep disorder (r=.43, p<.001), and psychological acceptance (r=-.41, p<.001). Academic stress, major satisfaction of nursing, sleep disorder, social isolation, and psychological acceptance were identified as factors affecting depression. • The determinants of the public's nuclear power acceptance have received considerable attention as decisive factors regarding nuclear power policy. However, the contingency of the relative importance of different determinants has been less explored. Building on the literature of psychological distance between the individual and the object, the present study demonstrates that the relative effects of different types of perceived risks regarding nuclear power generation differ across acceptance targets. Using a sample of Korea, our results show that, regarding national acceptance of nuclear power generation, perceived risk from nuclear power plants exerts a stronger negative effect than that from radioactive waste management; however, the latter exerts a stronger negative effect than the former on local acceptance of a nuclear power plant. This finding provides implications for efficient public communication strategy to raise nuclear power acceptance.
