Prototyping a BIM-enabled Design Tool for the Auto-arrangement of Interior Design Panels - Based on the Pattern Extraction of Bitmap Image Pixels and its Representation - (BIM기반 설계를 지원하는 인테리어 패널 자동배치 도구 프로토타입 구현 - 비트맵 이미지 픽셀 패턴의 추출과 패널 표현을 중심으로 -)

  • Interior panels are usually used in finishing of interior walls for not only decorative effects but also information transfer. According to designer's design placing interior panels may need repetitive tasks and the emphasis of this paper is to support an automation of these tasks. Considering the utilization characteristics of interior panels, we propose three method to present patterns by using bitmap image pixels and interior panels' shape changes, based on the theoretical consideration. In addition, in order to approve the possibility of the proposed methods, we have implemented the BIM based interior panels auto layout tool which applied one of the three methods to present patterns by using bitmap image pixel values and panel identification attributes. This tool also supports auto generation of quantity and panel arrangement sequence information that will be used in future construction phase. We expect that this approach will also be used in other decorative objects which require repetition of the basic units, such as floor tiles.

  • The environment and energy related problem has become one of the most important global issues in recent years. One of the most effective ways of improving the fuel efficiency of automobiles is the weight reduction. In order to obtain this goal the hydroforming technology has been adapting for the high strength steel and its application is being widened. In present study, the chassis components (mainly cross members of engine cradle) simulation and development by hydroforming technology to apply high strength steel having tensile strength of 440 MPa grade is studied. In the part design stage, it requires feasibility study and process design aided by CAE (Computer Aided Design) to confirm hydroformability in details. Overall possibility of hydroformable chassis parts could be examined by cross sectional analyses. Moreover, it is essential to ensure the formability of tube material on every forming step such as pre-bending, performing and hydroforming. In the die design stage, all the components of prototyping tool were designed and interference with press was investigated from the point of geometry and thinning.

  • Incremental sheet forming (ISF) is a highly versatile and flexible process for rapid manufacturing of complex sheet metal parts. Compared to conventional sheet forming processes, ISF is of a clear advantage in manufacturing small batch or customized parts. ISF needs die-less machine alone, while conventional sheet forming requires highly expensive facilities like dies, molds, and presses. This equipment takes long time to get preparation for manufacturing. However, ISF does not need the full facilities nor much cost and time. Because of the facts, ISF is continuously being used for small batch or prototyping manufacturing in current industries. However, spring-back induced in the process of incremental forming becomes a critical drawback on precision manufacturing. Since sheet metal, being a raw material for ISF, has property to resilience, spring-back would come in the case. It is the research objective to investigate how geometrical shaping parameters make effect on shape dimensional errors. In order to analyze the spring-back occurred in the process, this study experimented on Al 1015 material in the ISF. The statistical tool employed experimental design with factors. The table of orthogonal arrays of $L_8(2^7)$ are used to design the experiments and ANOVA method are employed to statistically analyze the collected data. The results of the analysis from this study shows that the type of shape and the slope of bottom are the significant, whereas the shape size, the shape height, and the side angle are not significant factors on dimensional errors. More error incurred on the pyramid than on the circular type in the experiments. The sloped bottom showed higher errors than the flat one.

Usability Evaluation of OSD(On Screen Display) User Interface Based on Subjective Preference (주관적 선호도에 의한 제품 OSD(On Screen Display)의 사용성 평가)

  • As the microelectronics technology is developed, new types of smart intelligent products are being emerged. OSD user interface is one of the critical factor in this kind of product, especially brown goods and information devices, as it is responsible for imput and output function. OSD is being treated as accompaniment to hardware in spite of its importance, and therefore is developed from only simple and separate usability testing based on performance measurement. This study propose a usability evaluation method of OSD based on subjective preference to support existing usability testing. The purpose of this analysis is to make clear what is important factor and how its preference level is from the user's viewpoint. The various attributes of OSD are clarified from user's questionaire and interview, and orthogonal array is generated with specified factor levels. The prototypes are generated from rapid prototyping tool and tested in natural simulation environment. The preference data which collected in this usability testing is analyzed with conjoint analysis module. This usability evaluation is not the final stage in user interface design process but the early planned and circulated stage.

  • The automotive industry has shown a growing interest in tube hydroforming during the past years. The advantages of hydroforming (less thinning, a more efficient manufacturing process, etc.) can, for instance, be combined with the high strength of extra high strength steels, which are usually less formable, to produce structural automotive components which exhibit lower weight and improved service performance. Design and production of tubular components require knowledge about tube material and forming behavior during hydroforming and how the hydroforming operation itself should be controlled. These issues are studied analytically in the present paper. In this study, the whole process of rear sub-frame parts development by tube hydroforming using AA6061 material is presented. Effects of parameters such as internal pressure, axial feeding and geometry shape in automotive rear sub-frame by hydroforming process were carefully investigated.   • This paper presents a study on the modeling for transparent toaster with a cap of folding type. The toaster was modelled to solve problems of customer's unsatisfaction such as heat loss, input of a piece of dirt, unidentified heating state of sliced toaster. Rapid prototyping was followed by the first modeling, and the second modeling was implemented in order to solve the problems of the first modeling such as interference of holder and door, and the third modeling was developed with a cap of folding type through analysis of assembly and simulation. The 3D modeling tool used in this paper was Pro/Engineer 4.0. The modeling was designed to minimize heat loss and structured with transparent outer case. So the toasting procedure will be identified with the naked eye, and the transparent toaster will improve the customer's aesthetic satisfaction.

Training in the production of effective prototypes using Core Mechanic Diagram and Unreal Blueprint

  • In this paper, we propose a training method to efficiently create prototypes using 'core mechanical diagram' to make game design easier and 'BluePrint', a visual scripting tool of Unreal that enables relatively easy functionality without programming knowledge. With the development of game engines, game development is becoming faster and easier, and using this, non-programmers without knowledge of game development are clearly showing a tendency to participate in game development. However, existing game development methodologies and game implementation methods require complex design processes and specialized knowledge. In order to make it easier for non-programming experts to develop games, they will simplify the complexity of existing game development methodologies, and propose educational methods that can focus on and implement the essence of game design based on cases where non-programmers have implemented prototypes themselves.

  • This study attempts at prototyping and evaluating a geovisualization tool that summarizes and explores human activity patterns using spatio-temporal trajectory data collected from GPS receiver. A set of core conceptualization developed in 'time geography' is successfully represented by our prototype based on the notion of 'space-time cube.' The notions of 'temporal dispersion cylinder' and 'parallel plane plot' are also implemented to allow funker analyses of human activity pattern on the space-time trajectory. The capabilities of the geovisualization environment we proposed include the interactive and dynamic functions that support a variety of explorations on the three components of spatio-temporal data : space(where), time(when), and object(what).
