원지점 차넣기 모타 적용 잠입노즐 기초 기술 개발

  • 잠입노즐은 로케트 추진기관의 길이 및 중량을 감소시켜 체계설계의 관점에서 볼 때 많은 이점을 제공한다. 본 연구에서는 3단형 과학로케트 원지점 차넣기 모타(apogee kick motor)에 적용하기위한 잠입노즐의 기초기술 개발에 주안점을 두었다. 고고도에서 저속으로 회전하며 비행하는 원지점 차넣기 모타를 제작하기위해서 체계 요구성능에 의해 예상된 실물형의 50% 크기에 해당하는 축소형 잠입노즐을 제작하였다. 잠입노즐은 잠입부의 내외부가 고온의 추진제 연소가스에 노출된 상태에서 노즐 내부 압력 외에 연소실압에 의한 외부압력이 작용하므로 이를 고려한 열 및 구조설계가 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 노즐 수렴부와 목부에 일체형 그라파이트 소재를 적용하고 확장부 내열재 및 잠입부 배면내열재에 탄소/페놀 복합재를 노즐 내열재로 사용하였다. 그리고 이들의 구조적 지지를 위해 스틸구조물을 적용하였다. 적용된 스틸구조물에는 K형 열전쌍을 이용해 내열재와 구조물 온도를 측정할 수 있는 관통구멍 및 나사부를 구조물 외변에 가공하였다. 열전쌍은 노즐 목직경의 2, 4배 되는 확장부 내열재 단면위치의 2mm와 4mm 깊이와 구조물 내면 및 외면의 4개소에 열전쌍을 부착하여 지상연소시험시 노즐 내열재와 구조물의 온도분포를 관찰한다. 그리고 노즐 조립시 확장부 내열재와 구조물에 각 각 반원형 홈을 내어 여분의 접착제가 원형 홈에 밀려들어가 경화되어 노즐 기밀유지와 체결력을 향상시킬 수 있는 원형공간 접착제 충전 공법을 적용하여 실제모타에 대한 적용가능성을 지상연소시험을 통해 확인한다.

  • Hydraulic performance test was conducted for a fuel pump of a liquid rocket engine turbopump. The pump driven by an electric motor was tested in water environment. It is experimentally shown that the inducer had very small effect on the pimp's head and efficiency but great effect on the pump's cavitation performance. Additionally, inducer test was carried out to investigate the effect of the inducer on the pump in detail, and it was found that the pump had a critical cavitation number when the inducer head dropped by $55\%$.

Ultrasonic Inspection Technology of Defect Detection of Propellant/Liner Debond & Propellant Microcrack (초음파를 이용한 추진제/라이너 미접착 및 추진제 미세 크랙의 결함 검출 기법)

  • Ultrasonic inspection method is more profitable than X-ray radiographic inspection in cost and effect of defect detection such as debond, damage, and it doesn't need special constructions. The method can also be a possible real time inspection with safety. This report explains 1)the experiment and analysis of ultrasonic property of solid propellant, 2)the inspection methods of propellant/liner debond by inside or outside inspection, and 3)the inspection methods of propellant microcrack by damage. From the results, it is possible to detect the defect of propellant/liner debond by inside or outside inspection. Futhermore, it can be possible to detect the propellant microcrack caused by damage using the ultrasonic attenuation.

  • For liquid rocket engine test, one of most important design parameters to be measured is thrust. However, not like solid rocket motor, a liquid rocket engine is attached to the propellant feed system, control valve and many other safety systems. Without considering these effects, thrust data measured from firing test is not reliable and sometimes almost meaningless. In this research, new thrust measurement system, which includes all these side effects, was designed and fabricated.

  • The development of electric vehicle power electronics system control, composed of DC-AC inverters and DC-DC converters, attract much research interest in the modern industry. A DC-AC inverter supplies the high-power motor torques of the propulsion system and utility loads of electric vehicles, whereas a DC-DC converter supplies the conventional low-power and low-voltage loads. However, the need for high-power bidirectional DC-DC converters in future electric vehicles has led to the development of many new topologies of DC-DC converters. The nonlinear control of power converters is an active research area in the field of power electronics. This paper focuses on the use of the fuzzy sliding mode strategy as a control strategy for buck-boost DC-DC converter power supplies in electric vehicles. The proposed fuzzy controller specifies changes in control signals based on the surface and knowledge on surface changes to satisfy the sliding mode stability and attraction conditions. The performance of the proposed fuzzy sliding controller is compared to that of the classical sliding mode controller. The satisfactory simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed control law, which reduces the chattering phenomenon. Moreover, the obtained results prove the robustness of the proposed control law against variations in load resistance and input voltage in the studied converter.

  • The study has been performed on the improvement of bonding process and bond strength of HTPB propellant and liner using a polymeric curative. In case of liner using polymeric curative prepared from reaction of HTPB and TDI, migration of curative was decreased at bond interface. So EPDM insulation sanding and Desmodur RE coating process could be omitted in motor case preparation and bond strengths between the HTPB propellant and liner were increased. Also deterioration phenomena of bond strength could not be observed in accelerated aging test.

  • The combustion behavior of initiators and can-type ignitor, acting on vacuum pressure, was invested. It was found that if the ignited propellants of a can-type igniter were exposed at certain level of low pressure, it would be burnt improperly or even be extinguished. When we design the can-type igniters for some rocket motor, it is most important that the pressure built-up by the gases which were already burnt inside of the igniter case keep as high as possible. For this purpose, it is recommended that the ignitor case have some strength to produce as much gases as possible before breaking out and the free volume be kept as small as possible.

  • For the sea-level performance test of rocket motor designed to operate in the upper atmosphere, ejectors with no induced secondary flow are generally used, which serves dual purposes of evacuating the test cell and performing as a supersonic exhaust diffuser (SED). The main concern of this research is to simulate starting transients in order to visualize evolution of internal shock structures in SED with different initial cell (vacuum chamber) pressures. RANS code with low Reynolds $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model was employed for these computations. Numerical results were compared with the pressure measurements previously performed [Proceedings of 2004 Annual Conference, KIMST], and showed good agreements with pressure-time history of measured data. In the case of low vacuum chamber pressure, abrupt impingement of the under-expanded supersonic jet from the nozzle onto the diffuser wall was observed, whereas initial impingement point was located downstream and moved slowly upstream in the case of non-vacuum chamber pressure. In spite of initially dissimilar evolution of shock structures, iso-mach contour revealed that the steady shock structures had little difference except the location of flow separation and normal shock.

Comparison of Forming force on forward and Backward Flow Forming for Combustion Chamber (연소기를 위한 전후방 유동성형에서의 성형력 비교)

  • The flow forming has been used to produce long thin walled tube parts, with reduced forming force and enhanced mechanical for a good finished part, compared with other method formed parts. Especially, the flow forming is suitable for making high precision thin walled cylinders, such as rocket motor cases, combustion chamber, hydraulic cylinders and high-pressure vessels and so on. In this paper, finite element analysis of three-roller forward and backward flow forming for combustion chamber is carried out to study effects of forming depth and feed rate on forming force. The axial and radial forming forces of forward flow forming on several forming depth and feed rate conditions are compared with those of backward flow forming.

Simulation of KM Plume Density Field by Residual Thrust Using DSMC Method (DSMC 방법을 사용한 KM 잔류추력 밀도장 시뮬레이션)

  • The satellite payloaded on the 2nd stage of KSLV-I is planned to perform CCAM(Contamination and Collision Avoidance Maneuver) not to collide with KM(Kick Motor). At the moment, the satellite should pass through low density environment not to be contaminated by KM plume due to residual thrust. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the flow field of KM plume by residual thrust. In this paper, DSMC (Direct Simulation Monte-Carlo) method, which is widely accepted to simulate in rarefied regime, is used to compute the density field of KM plume by residual thrust and the result of DSMC simulation was compared with that of FLUENT to validate it.
