  • Currently, natural aggregates of good quality are hard to use because of continuous decrease of internal aggregate resource and regulation of gathering. So, use of crushed sand was being increased. On the other hand, skyscraper projects with 100 stories are being planned within the country and high strength concrete must be used to construct a skyscraper with 100 stories. High strength concrete is necessary to use crushed sand too because we are still unable to secure natural aggregates of good quality. So, This study indicated basic data necessary for mix design of high strength concrete through valuation of concrete property by quality variation of crushed sand.

  • This paper presents a new PID controller for a DC/DC boost converter model that has a parasitic inductor resistance. In order to maintain the robust output regulation property under load variations the proposed controller is designed by using an additional state variable developed via a parallel-damped passivity-based control approach. Simulation results using Matlab/Simulink SimPowerSystems compare the performances of the proposed controller with a conventional PI controller for reference step changes and load uncertainties.

  • This paper addresses the design of State-feedback Robust Guaranteed-Cost Controllers with controller gain variations. Since the unstructured uncertainty is the most dominant uncertainty in the modeling of the plant, the plant is assumed to have the unstructured uncertainty. It is necessary to take the controller parameter perturbation into consideration when we design the robust controller. Otherwise, the resulting controller may show the fragility property. That is to say, the extremely small controller parameter variation may result in the instability of the overall closed-loop system. Therefore, the design purpose is that the maximum performance index is guaranteed in the presence of the unstructured plant uncertainty and controller parameter variations ...

  • Response variability of reinforced concrete frame subjected to material property randomness has been evaluated with the aid of the finite element method. The spatial variation of Young's modulus is assumed to be a two-dimensional homogeneous stochastic process. Young's Modulus of concrete material has been investigated based on the uiaxial strength of concrete cylinder. Direct Monte Carlo simulation method is used to investigate the response of reinforced concrete frame due to the variation of Young's modulus with the Neumann expansion method and the pertubation method. The results by three analytic methods are compared with those by deterministic finite element analysis. These stochastic technique may be an efficient tool for evaluating the structural safety and reliability of reinforced concrete structures.

  • This paper covers the technology developmental stage work for the automatic ammunition loading system mainly focusing on the controller design of the electro-hydranlic type direct drive multi-axis manipulator. Mathematical model of the plant derived and PIDM servo-controller structured. Comparative study between the analytical and experimental work has been carried out to help understand the response property of the direct dine multi-axis robot. In the direct drive robot, non-negligible amount of disturbance and load Induced dynamics variation are transmitted to the drive axis and nonlinearity is highly observed. Thereupon a robust controller Implementing time-delay control law is proposed, and computer simulation confirms the possibility for the time-delay control application against the unpredictable disturbance and load-Induced dynamics variation.

  • One of the common issues in large dataset analyses is to detect and construct homogeneous groups of objects in those datasets. This is typically done by some form of clustering technique. In this study, we present a divisive hierarchical clustering method for two monothetic characteristics of histogram data. Unlike classical data points, a histogram has internal variation of itself as well as location information. However, to find the optimal bipartition, existing divisive monothetic clustering methods for histogram data consider only location information as a monothetic characteristic and they cannot distinguish histograms with the same location but different internal variations. Thus, a divisive clustering method considering both location and internal variation of histograms is proposed in this study. The method has an advantage in interpreting clustering outcomes by providing binary questions for each split. The proposed clustering method is verified through a simulation study and applied to a large U.S. house property value dataset.

  • Surface damage accumulation of alumina ceramics under the cyclic stress state was analyzed. The alternating stress state in repeat pass sliding contact was simulated by a synchronized biaxial (normal and tangential) repeated indentation technique. Wear debris formation mechanism through damage accumulation and fatigue grain failure in both alumina ceramic balls and flat disks was confirmed, and the contact induced surface degradation due to fatigue cracking accumulation was quantified by measuring vertical contact displacement. Variation of structural compliance (slope of load-displacement curve) of two contacting bodies was expressed as a variation of the apparent elastic property, called pseudo-elastic constant, of the contact system.

  • The spatial variability of the L- and C- band large scale remotely sensed soil moisture data, obtained during tire Southern Great Plain 1999 (SGP'99), was characterized. The results demonstrate that soil moisture data using L-band show the break in statistical symmetry (multiscaling behavior) with the variation of scale of observation, which is similar to that of the soil property such as sand content. Also, soil moisture data using C-band show single scaling behavior with the variation of scale of observation, which Is similar to that of the vegetation condition.

  • This paper presents investigation of damping characteristics of squeeze mode type MR (Magneto-Rheological) mount experimentally. Since damping property of the MR fluid is changed by variation of the applied magnetic field strength, squeeze mode type MR mount proposed in the study has variable damping characteristics according to the applied magnetic field s strength. In the present work, the performance of the mount was experimentally investigated according to the magnetic field strength and exciting frequencies. The experimental results present that the MR mount can effectively reduce the vibration in a wide range of frequency by controlling the applied electromagnetic filed strength. Viscous damping and stiffness coefficients of the MR mount tend to be changed according to the variation of the applied currents in this study and MR effect is reduced by increasing exciting frequency.

  • A Lamb wave guided by a plate structure has dispersive characteristics because phase and group velocity change with the variation of frequency and thickness. The Lamb wave has two modes, symmetric and anti-symmetric mode, which propagates symmetrically and non-symmetrically with respect to centerline. In this paper, the derivation of Lamb wave equation with anisotropic material property is investigated. The phase velocity and group velocity dispersion curves are shown using the stiffness matrix of composite materials with the variation of angle.
