  • This study was carried out to develop a new insolubilizer for water resistency enhancement and to evaluate its optimum apply method to corrugated paper. The addition of polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) backbone polymer to conventional starch glue caused a poor dispersibility, but flavonoid resin addition showed a good runnability and water resistency. The double coatings(top & under) of water-proof chemicals to corrugating liner made even better the water resistency of corrugating paper. This study suggested that water-proof chemical treatments be an effective method in water-resistant corrugating paper manufacturing for a cold chain system.

  • This research investigated Takju alcohol content in the case of irradiation changes in the statistical analysis was performed to visually. Lower proof alcohol fermentation Takju traditional and largely maintained 6 degrees, from the heat sterilization process is controlled through the distribution period. Most of the existing irradiation is focused on preservation of the product, but this study of the quality characteristics of the mechanical changes in alcohol was to seek value. Takju Celsius to $15^{\circ}C$, while maintaining the experiment were kept in the state. Radiation devices Varian Clinac ix, 2010 (Max. 10MV) using the field size $150mm{\times}150mm$, SSD 100 cm at 40kVp 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 15, 20Gy were vertical. KJELDAHL APPARATUS, C-H6 Alcohol frequency was measured using. The results according to the change of the radiation dose alcohol did not show the sudden change of frequency, were observed at similar levels decreased. This study simply due to the radiation dose to be served, but to find the change in the future with a greater sense of quality changes should be considered.

  • This study is the high contraction processing conditions set by the method of the CPB process. And the ultimate goal of this study is the high contraction of the CPB processing test method that can solve the problems of the high-contraction fabric processing method of the current jet dyeing machine. Non-coating process(CPB process) developed by the expression of a soft touch, light weight, functional and to develop excellent breathable nylon fabric. The nylon fabrics established the optimum processing conditions through the high contraction of the various test conditions, the CPB system.(The benzyl alcohol was used as the main constrictor.) At this time, the warp and weft contraction of nylon fabric was about 20%. And it established the constrictor concentration, the treatment temperature, time of a variety of tests. Also non-coating process(CPB process) can develop soft touch, lightweight, excellent air permeability. As a result, we developed a high contraction nylon fabric having a uniform surface. Manufactured fabric is used for Wind-proof and Down-proof.

  • The effects of alcohol concentration (30% 45% and 60%) on quality changes of maesil (Prunus mume) liqueur during leaching and ripening for 5 months were examined. Total acidity, pH and color of the liqueur generally increased with an increase alcohol concentration for 2 months. Thereafter the significant change did not occur. The contents of reducing sugar and polyphenol in the liqueur increased with an increase alcohol concentration and ripening periods. The major components of free sugar in maesil liqueur were fructose, glucose, sucrose and maltose. The content of fructose and glucose were higher than those of sucrose and maltose regardless alcohol concentration. Sucrose and maltose did not detect in the liqueur after leaching and ripening for 2 months. The major components of organic acid in maesil liqueur were citric, lactic, malic, and acetic acids. The optimal alcohol concentration was 45% and the duration of leaching and ripening was about 2 months for production of high-proof maesil liqueur.

  • In the developed NMR hyperpolarization techniques, Signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE) technique is thought to be a promising method to overcome the low sensitivity of bio-NMR/MRI. Most experiments using SABRE have been done in methanol, which is biologically harmful solvent. Therefore, more biological friendly solvent, such as ethanol can be more appropriate solvent to be applicable in bio-NMR and MRI. As the proof of concept, successful hyperpolarization on pyridine via SABRE is carried out in ethanol and its enhancement factor is calculated to be more than 150 folds. To investigate more about its possibility of hyperpolarization in different alcohol solvents, methanol and propanol are used for SABRE in the same condition. The overall polarization trend in different external magnetic field is similar but its polarization number is decreased with higher molecular weight solvents (the order from methanol to propanol). This result indicates that the efficiency of SABRE is different from solvent system despite its same functional group and similar properties. Higher para-hydrogen concentration, higher partial pressure of para-hydrogen, and deuterated solvent can increase the hyperpolarization in any solvents. With these series of successful SABRE results, future studies on SABRE in more biofriendly environment, on more various solvent systems, and with more substrates are needed and it will be the firm basis for applying the SABRE system on the future bio-NMR/MRI.

  • It has been shown that transparent microemulsion gels of flexibly adjustable viscosity containing less than 10% w/w surfactants can be obtained just by cooling down through a new 1-step preparation procedure (via 4 different in-situ colloidal systems) using PIT-technology with a range of emulsifiers, co-emulsifiers and lipids. They can be used for a wide scope of applications. Specific examples have been given with antiperspirant formulas that proof the stability of these thickened microemulsions even with high content of electrolytes and low pH. We propose that the structure of these microemulsion gels can be described by cross-linking of nano-fine oil droplets via an ABA-triblock copolymer. A new generation of transparent antiperspirant roll-ons with significantly improved skin tolerance can now be formulated as an attractive alternative to alcohol-based products.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the preference for and recognition of Makgeolli by foreign students to determine its potential for export. From March 15 to 29, 2010, 300 students from four universities (Kyung-Hee University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Yonsei University, Chung-Ang University) were surveyed and data from 287 subjects were used for subsequent analyses. The recognition of Makgeolli was as follows: 40.3% knew that Makgeolli's was fermented alcohol; 49.5% knew its proof; 85.7% knew that rice and wheat were the main ingredients of Makgeolli; 72.8% knew it was Korean traditional alcohol. The preference for Makgeolli's was as follows: flavor (3.46), color (3.43), aroma (3.30), texture (3.28), reverberation (3.36), shape of glass (3.51) and Korean bar (3.72), which were slightly high. However, hangover (3.02) and plastic bottle (3.08) had lower values than the other variables. Overall, participants were likely to recommend Makgeolli to others (Male 3.57, Female 3.72), but they did not think that it is a good ingredient for food (2.91). The opportunity for the globalization of Makgeolli appeared to be high (Male 3.57, Female 3.74). To improve the export of Makgoelli, respondents reported that a better marketing strategy (37%) and new type of bottle (42.8%) were needed.

  • In this work, the effect of annealing on physical and electrical properties of XLPE cable insulation was investigated. One sample was non-annealed and the other two samples were treated under air circulated oven at 80$^{\circ}C$ for five and ten days. In the DSC patterns of annealed specimen, new peaks appeared at near 80$^{\circ}C$ as a proof of thermal history. The degree of crystallinity increased by annealing effect. In the FT-IR spectrums, the change of absorbances to acetophenone and cumyl alcohol were observated according to the radial direction of cable insulation. They slowly diffused into both semi-conductive layer of the cable in proportion to annealing time and lastly led to near equilibrium state through cable insulation. The AC breakdown strength did not increased but the values were stabilized by effects of crystallinity and diffusion of by-products.

  • We studied changes in a high-proof maesil liqueur during a 5 month leaching and ripening period at $10^{\circ}C,\;20^{\circ}C$, and $30^{\circ}C$. Titratable acidity increased after 2 months at all temperatures, but pH only changed after 2 months at $30^{\circ}C$. The absorbance at 420 nm increased significantly during a high temperature leaching and ripening period. The alcohol concentration was similar for maesil liqueurs held at $10^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ for 2 months. The levels of reducing sugars and polyphenols were also higher for liqueurs stored at higher temperatures. The major free sugars present after one month (in order of decreasing concentration) were fructose, glucose, sucrose, and maltose. The major organic acids were citric, lactic, malic, succinic and acetic acid The total organic acid content of maesil liqueur decreased after 1 month at $10^{\circ}C$ but increased until 2 months at $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$.

  • Recently, 『Gyeongja(庚子)/Daetongryeok(大統曆)』(1600), a memorandum record of Yu Seong-ryong during the reign of King Seonjo(宣祖) of the Joseon Dynasty, was returned to Korea from Japan, and about 4,000 letters in cursive characters have been interpreted by Ro Seung-suk. The contents for 203 days written in the margin of 『Gyeongja(庚子)/Daetongryeok(大統曆)』 are mostly new, and are meaningful in understanding Yu's life and social association circumstances. There are daily routines of each day, contemporary figures, diseases and oriental medicine prescriptions. In particular, the combat record of Admiral Yi Sun-shin in 83 letters on the cover is very important to understand the situation in those days. It seems that the reason for writing the combat situations a year and a few months after Admiral Yi died in war was to honor his distinguished military service for a long time by King Seonjo's order according to the public opinion of the royal court. The record can be classified into two categories. First, Admiral Yi sighed when he heard about Yu's dismissal from the office in Gogeumdo, and was always alert with clear water on the boat after the Battle of Waekyo Castle. Second, he was killed by bullets shot by the enemy while directly encouraging battle, not listening to his men who tried to dissuade him from leading the naval battle at Noryang. This only contained contents of devoting his life desperately, which is an important proof of the theory of his death in war. It also contains nine methods for making liquor and another method that wasn't known to the public, and seems to include popular alcohol brewing methods or newly devised ones. In addition, there is a detail that Heo Jun, the author of 『Donguibogam』, introduced medicine to Yu, along with being unable to attend ancestral rites and relieving the poor written in red. There are also stories about Kang Hang(姜沆) returning to Korea after being captured by Japan and Lee Deok-hong(李德弘)'s son, who introduced Gugapseondo(龜甲船圖, the first picture of the Turtle Ship in Korea) to King Seonjo. In the light of the above, 『Gyeongja(庚子)/Daetongryeok(大統曆)』is an important historical record to empirically research not only figures related to Yu but also the circumstances of those days since it contains new facts that are not in the existing literature. In particular, the big accomplishment of this study is to correct the mistakenly known theory of Admiral Yi's suicide and to find out the new fact that Heo Jun provided medical information. In this respect, this book is expected to serve as a testament to the future study of the history and characters related to Yu in the mid-Joseon period.
