An Analysis of Organizational System and Management on Small Sized Local Science Museum during the COVID-19 Situation (코로나19 시기에 지방 소규모 과학관의 조직 및 운영 현황 분석)

  • This study conducted qualitative research using Geochang Wolseong Space Creative Science Museum as a case study to investigate the organizational and operational status of small local science museums during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a basic study for the dissemination of scientific culture and public understanding of science. To analyze the situation of the science museum, an evaluation framework was developed, and information obtained through various communication channels and in-depth interviews with information commissioners of the museum were used for the study. As of 2020, when COVID-19 was at its peak, this science museum showed a clear decline in sales and visitor numbers compared to the previous year. Despite this situation, the museum was found to be using crisis management methods such as introducing unface-to-face programs, managing exhibits, and using various promotional media. However, the shortage of professional personnel, excessive workload of employees, and absence of differentiation from other science museums remain as challenges to be addressed in the future for sustainable earth science.

Social Learning Values in the Justification Discourses for One Million-pyeong Park, Busan, South Korea (담론분석을 통한 100만평공원운동의 사회학습적 가치)

  • This paper claims that the One Million-peyong Park(hereafter abbreviated as OMP) project is different from a typical citizen participatory park project by recognizing the exceptional leadership of the Civic Committee for the One Million-pyeong Park Construction(CCOMPC) in promoting and developing the OMP project. Since 2001 the CCOMPC has published a variety of written promotional materials to inform and educate the public about the project. In terms of approaching the promotional materials, this research focuses on the use of language on how the CCOMPC justifies the OMP project, namely the OMP justification discourse, and considers the discourse as a unique form of social document that represents the perspective of the CCOMPC in explaining the local environmental issues and values of urban parks to the public. Using a discourse analysis method, this research analyzes the justification discourses and investigates how they changed over the three main development phases of the OMP: the initiation and preliminary development phase(1999-2001.2), the development phase (2001.2-2008), and the time period after the greenbelt policy release on Dunchi Island(2008-present). In each discourse, the OMP project is rationalized as a citizen participation park project that (1) aims to enhance the quality of public green space in Busan, (2) is accompanied by various community engagement programs that emphasize the value of urban nature and environmental education to expand citizen participation, and (3) has contributed to the National Urban Park Bill. This research emphasizes the role of the discourses in helping the public gain a critical understanding about the local environment and values of urban parks. By analyzing the contents of the discourses, it explains the social learning values of the OMP expressed in the discourses.

A Study on the Application Flow of Virtual Reality in the Apartment Model House (아파트 모델하우스에서 시대별 가상현실 활용 흐름에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to summarize the changes in virtual reality utilization in model houses through the time-by-year example of model houses and to study the use and future development of virtual reality technologies in model houses. As a result of compiling and analyzing characteristics of virtual reality utilization flow in model houses of apartments, it is as follows. First, the market for apartment model houses using virtual reality was gradually expanded for the purpose of brand promotion by private construction companies. Second, technologies that utilize virtual reality in apartment sales are changing from virtual space construction to virtual content implementation. Third, it is changing from the existing method of face-to-face and method of accessing actual promotional media to the form of publicizing apartments using virtual reality. Through this research, it is estimated that it will be used as an information medium and a form of experience using physical environment and virtual reality in a physical model house for consumers looking for model houses. This study presents the future direction of the model house, and develops it as a post-sale maintenance / management system through ICT technology (3D scanning, 3D modeling, virtual content) Further research on the technology is expected to be needed.
