  • Urban agriculture, which can be defined as agriculture performed in a city, is suggested as an alternative solution to restore deserted community and expand green land in city area through cultivation activities. In Korea, 'Urban Agriculture Promotion and Support Act' was enforced from May 2012. In addition, in the same year, Seoul Metropolitan Government declared 'the beginning of urban agriculture era,' established municipal ordinance, and increased budget to actively support urban agriculture. As a result, urban agriculture practices have been increasing every year. Yet, the way of developing urban agriculture in a uniform way of expanding green land has led to difficulties of securing proper spaces. Accordingly, 'roof top' spaces have gained attention. This study analyzes rooftop garden, one of the spaces of carrying out urban agriculture, from the publicness perspective. The study selected a case study of a public rooftop garden in Mullae-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, investigated present conditions and usage features of the garden, and explored the conditions to be a 'public' roof top garden. Through theoretical analysis, both physical and non-physical indicators were derived for analysis framework; physical aspects- accessibility, locality, openness, comfortness, and non-physical aspects- subjectivity, cooperativeness, and a sense of community. The results of this study are as follows. First, openness and locality scores were the highest, and comfortness scored the lowest, in ensuring the publicness of Mullae roof top garden. Second, non-physical indicators had stronger effect than physical indicators on rooftop garden users' awareness on publicness and building a garden community. In conclusion, in order to vitalize roof top garden, users should be engaged from the very first planning stage of building a garden, opening hours should not be limited, and more importance should be put on users to subjectively manage the operation of rooftop garden than merely creating a physical environment.

  • This study suggests, based on analysis of current status, improvement plans for the local government's public mobile applications. Fist of all, this study selected analysis elements and established an analysis framework for public mobile applications. Then the study analyzed the applications developed by all local government and application management practices in Seoul-City. The status of public applications shows that there are no institutional guidelines and the practical use of the public application is low in relation to the invested costs. Additional problems are the imprudent development, non-reflection of demand, absence of systemic management. For the improvement plans, the study suggests understanding of exact demand, detailed examination of validity, offering of effective information and the utilization of double-way interaction application. The management side of the improvement plans addresses the preparing for public application ordinance, building proper management system, regular check, education and active promotion.

  • Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practice is still popular among the Malaysian population nowadays although western or allopathic medicine is the first line of treatment. Dissatisfaction with health services and therapeutic effects of western medicine or preference for holistic, integrative approach in treatment are common reasons favouring the increasing popularity of CAM practices. The efforts toward integration of CAM and western medicine in Malaysia were rather slow and in a piece-meal fashion. Strategic efforts in strengthening government and self-regulation among practitioners, formalizing education, promoting research, and cultivating national and international networks are necessary to achieve an integrative system. Regulations to restrict the practice and sale of CAM products to licensed practitioners, strict and mandatory registration of the practitioners, inclusion of CAM in essential medicines list, and pricing regulations must be comprehensively discussed. Development of curriculum, offers of scholarship and incentives, promotion of courses and seminars for professionals is necessary to increase the numbers of CAM experts. Malaysia should follow the efforts of other countries on the production and documentation of local CAM data, allocation of funding, and establishment of research centres to assess the efficacy of potentially useful local products. Local and international collaboration in research and continuous education is important for exchange of knowledge and skills. In conclusion more coordinated efforts in regulation of CAM practice and products, formalizing CAM training and education would significantly move the process forward and allow the public to enjoy more health benefits from CAM practice in Malaysia.

  • "Arts and Cultural Education Promotion Act" comes with institutionalization of arts and cultural education in Korea, and tends to mean facilitating occupational professionalism in historical perspectives. In particular, the nature of vocational identity of professional educators in arts and cultural education is the main focus of analysis and debate for human resource development. Accordingly, this study emphasizes the diversity of arts and cultural education practices and reveals that the vocational training of arts and cultural education experts should be based on various curriculum and programs which take an interdisciplinary approach. In this respect, excessive simplification of vocational identity of the experts may exert negative effect on the diversity and excellence of arts and cultural education. To meet the needs of the arts and cultural education, curriculum and training program for university level should be newly developed or revised through an interdisciplinary approach with the job analysis of practicing professionals.

  • Arcade game up until early 2000 had been highly influential and profitable industry that occupied most of the market share for the Korean domestic game industry. However, extensive and yet tightened restrictions were imposed to the industry in 2006 due to the problems of speculative games such as winning rate manipulation, serious addictiveness, and etc. This resulted in damaging healthy arcade game business and eventually caused it seemingly impossible to comeback up until now. This study is to address the current arcade game industry in Korea along with the best practices in other countries to come up with propositions for the comeback of domestic arcade game industry and improvement of competitiveness. Ultimately it is to develop diversification and flexibility and to induce new business opportunities in the domestic arcade game industry by proposing the ways to convert the bad perception and introduction of functional games.

Recently, while the LED lighting was variously attempted in every sector in society, it is needed to express differentiated lighting according to the resident's individual lifestyle in a residential space. In this paper, we analyze the role of LED lighting suitable for the digitalized lifestyle of the modern people through the relevant literature survey and case studies. The following results are obtained in summary of the rapidly changed recent trends of LED lighting. First, LED light replace existing light sources due to the advanced new technology in LED industry, and take the spotlight as a new lighting solution with the development of variable color LED bulb and the control technology by the wired and wireless communications. Second, LED lighting can be structurally applicable to every lighting device because of its compact and lightweight units, can produce abundant light environment by expression of variable colors and moods with the easy coloring and dimming control, can be reborn as emotional lighting design. Third, as recently practices are constantly appeared that integrate LED lights in the interior elements, such as object and furniture, and combine advanced LED lighting technology to new materials, the portion of illumination on the indoor environment is further increased after integrating the LED lighting and interior elements make boundaries of lighting and product architecture become blurred. LED lighting is confirmed that is being changed from the external functionality including material, shape, color, and etc. into the contextual emotion design including the lights expression, variable color, brightness control, making image, and etc. as the light source in current smart lighting era.

  • Background: Breast cancer is the commonest type of cancer among women, and in Malaysia 50-60% of the new cases are being detected at late stages. Do age, education level, income, ethnicity, relationship with breast cancer patients and knowledge of breast cancer risk factors influence breast screening practices? This study revealed interesting but significant differences. Objectives: To assess the knowledge of breast cancer risk factors and early detection measures among women in a high risk group. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional survey of one hundred and thirty one women relatives of breast cancer patients was carried out. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, during hospital visits. A self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Results: The majority of the respondents (71%) had poor knowledge of the risk factors for breast cancer. Income, relationship with a patient and practise of breast cancer screening predicted performance of mammography, $R^2$=0.467, F=12.568, p<0.0001. Conclusions: The finding shows inadequate knowledge of breast cancer risk factors and poor cancer screening practise among women with family history of breast cancer. Poor knowledge and practise of breast screening are likely to lead to late stage presentation of breast cancer disease. Some important predictors of breast cancer screening behaviour among women with positive family history of breast cancer were identified. An understanding of the strengths and significance of the association between these factors and breast screening behaviour is vital for developing more targeted breast health promotion.

  • As pioneers of the early video art, Steina Vasulka(1940-) and Woody Vasulka(1937-2019) had lead not only their own experimental arts, but also entire changes of contemporary avant-garde performance, music, and visual art. Two artists invented and developed electronic machines for video image-processing by collaborating with engineers, and performed creative experiment on transformation of digital image. For them, video art is not just a means of documentation. The Vasulkas' artistic practices were not bounded by conventional canons and rules in art world, and preferably were parts of active aesthetic strategies for coexistence of vision of human and vision of machine. Particularly, their video art recognized the video as the key medium in an era where media technology began to dominate the system of communication, and established artist's authority over manipulation of moving image electronically without depending on video camera. In that regard, we can value on their video art. Therefore, the paper reflects on the Vasulkas' art and life which have not yet been studied, and suggests academic interests in the context of their artistic activities and aesthetic strategies.

A depth interview was administered to eight consumers aged 10s through 30s who had shopping experiences at Dongdaemoon Shoppingmall. The contents of interview were about the reasons of preference for Dongdaemoon Shoppingmall, the merchandise categories purchased, assortment, price, shopping environment, and service offered by Dongdaemoon Shoppingmall. The results of this study were as follows: The reasons of consumers' Dongdaemoon Shoppingmall preference were reasonable price, variety of merchandise assortment, easy catch of fashion trend, entertainment place, and opening hour at nighttime. The mainly purchased items were casual and fashionable clothes. Children's wear was mainly bought item by housewives too. The unique design, similar merchandises sold at department stores and new style in early adoption of fashion cycle were perceived as positive aspects, but copied merchandises and large quantity of same merchandise as negative aspects. The fixed price system was not trusted by consumers. Consumers' complaints about shopping condition were crowded pathways and shopping booths, the lacks of facilities such as fitting room, toilet, lounge area, sales persons' service, and difficulty of using credit cards. From these results, some implications for marketing strategies and practices might be suggested. In order to improve the design variety of merchandises, marketers and apparel manufacturers should make efforts by managing merchandise planning, production, selling, and promotion cooperatively. Fixed price system, acceptance of credit cards, and merchandise return/exchange service should be improved.
