  • National Competency Standards are the major administrative project to build a competence-based society. The manpower for the global society should be recognized by performance rather than educational records. Therefore, all colleges should first nurture NCS-type manpower based on field needs. This study comparatively analyzed the differences between the lecture style of four-year colleges and the outcomes of problem-solving and project-based learning method to prove why it is necessary to introduce the NCS program. Especially, It will review the constraints and measures of NCS introduction to overcome in a four-year university. Through this, it can be used as a means to help improve the field conformity of a four-year college curriculum by presenting the development and utilization of curriculum-based NCS in a four-year university. As a result, it was found that the overall satisfaction with the problem-solving and project-based learning method was above average. Many students were dissatisfied with the traditional teaching methods and the new project-based learning method was relatively effective in college education. Students' participation also improved. Based on the evaluation of learning performance, the new method was found more satisfactory than the old teaching method in terms of comprehension of professional knowledge in various fields, nurturing of logical thinking skills, acquisition of analytical skills, comprehensive thinking skills, creative problem recognition, and open-minded thinking skills.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of peer-evaluation and self-evaluation of team activity participation in project-based learning and their usability were investigated. The characteristics of peer-evaluation and self-evaluation are as follows. First, in peer-evaluation and self-evaluation of project-based learning, the correlation between the two evaluation scores was very high. When students' scores from their peers correlate very well with the scores they give themselves, it means that they apply the same criteria to their peers and to themselves when evaluating team activity. Second, there was no difference in peer-evaluation and self-evaluation scores between groups with different written test scores. The fact that peer-evaluation and self-evaluation scores do not change according to academic ability shows that the two evaluation areas are independent. Third, the self-evaluation score in project-based learning is statistically significantly higher than the score received from peers. This raises doubts about the fairness of self-evaluation. Therefore, in this paper, it is suggested that self-evaluation of team activities in project-based learning is carried out together with peer-evaluation, but only peer-evaluation is reflected in credits.

The purpose of this education was to improve public dentist's abilities to perform their duties. The 3days education was from 28 May until 30 May in 2008. The total 81 participants consisted of 8 medical position dentists, 20 employment position dentists, and 53 public health dentists. The survey provided appraisal of the education and suggestion of the development after this education. The obtained results were as followings : l. The public dental health project for the disabled people(91.4%) was a top priority. The second rank was the public dental health education project (87.6%) and the public dental health project for the aged people(86.4%) was followed. 2. The participants agreed that public dentist's professional educational programs were necessary(87.6%). 3. The participants did not have difficulties in attending this education(56.8%). 4. The participants who participated in 2008 public dentists' professional education were satisfied with this educational programs(81.4%). 5. Not only did the public dentists need the preventive dentistry programs and the treatment of the disabled people but also needed the health administrative programs and the health statistical programs in the future.

  • This study is aimed to analyze the economic effectiveness (direct fishing income effect) of the marine afforestation project in Gangneung region. Based on the surveyed data, the production values and costs of the marine afforestation project are estimated and compared to determine the economic validity of the marine afforestation project. Results show that the B/C ratio, as an indicator of economic evaluation, is 1.30 with an interest rate of 5.5%, indicating that the marine afforestation project in Gangneung region would be economically feasible under the current production and market conditions. However, it is expected that the economic effectiveness would be increased when considering benefits of recreational fishing and greenhouse gas reduction from the marine afforestation project.

  • NGIS project was carried out to accelerate Korea to an information-oriented land. NGIS Project also is to support training projects for GIS specialists as a sub-project. This program has two categories which are long-term courses and short-courses. The long-term courses are for people who want to get a job in SIS(Spatial Information System) field and also for public services personnel who want to acquire the latest SIS technology. Short-term courses are about the latest GIS component technology and utilization spatial data. In this paper, we analyze education programs and training courses relate to SIS. Also we suggest some directions to train specialists for the effective achievement of SIS project. To efficient education for SIS specialist, education programs have courses without repetition and courses are separated by technology type.

  • Under the WTO system, global standardization of professionalism in architecture practice calls for transformation of curriculum in architectural education in Korea. This paper compares the curriculum standards of international accrediting authorities such as NAAB and RIBA based on UIA accord which defines fundamental knowledge and abilities of an architect. As a result this paper extracts 51 achievement oriented criteria of architectural education in Korea. It can be categorized as communication, design, cultural context(history and theory, human behavior and social aspects), technical systems(structural systems, environmental control systems, construction material and assemblies) and practice(project process, project economics and business management, laws and regulations). Based on this recommended Korean curriculum standards, current curriculum is analyzed focusing on the 5 architectural programs in Seoul. Through this analysis, it became clear that some area - social and economic aspects in architecture, sustainability in architecture, understanding and selection of construction material, assemblies and environmental control system, recycling of existing building, professional liability, professional rules of conduct, project economics and project management - need to be covered and emphasized to meet the international standards in professional education in architecture. The result in this paper will be used as a basic data in the process of finding the direction of restructuring curriculum for professional architectural education in Korea.

  • We designed and applied team project based learning for effective computer programming education and analyzed the effect on learning effect. Throughout simplified traditional theories and practices, teamed up with random lottery, divided role & responsibility, and conducted problem solving projects in a competitive way for a given task. When after completion of the course, we conducted questionnaires on learners in order to grasp the influence factors on the learning effect. As a result of the structural equation model analysis, it was shown that Team Project had a direct effect on the learning effect. The learning effect based on the relationships among the factors derived through exploratory factor analysis. Based on this analysis, we propose a more effective computer programming education way.

  • Informatics curriculum has been revised for informatics principles and concepts to effectively teach. According to the revised curriculum, researches are verifying the educational effects of algorithmic thinking and problem-solving abilities using programming language by applying it to various area. However, researches in programming education considering the level of student are yet incomplete. This research has analyzed the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness. As results of difference of project completeness, a high perceived level of problem solving group's performance of project completeness was higher than a low perceived level of problem solving group's one. Analysis of the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness, 'problem finding' factor had a significant impact. This research suggested the importance of 'problem finding' and self-reflecting introspective 'reviewing' stages in problem solving process using programming language.abstract of your study in English. • This paper is about a case study of an interdisciplinary and intercultural collaborative design project course that has been offered for six years. The distinct characteristics of this course lie in that its students consist of those in two different disciplines, mechanical engineering and industrial design, and also in two different countries, Korea and Germany. The themes of the design project have been selected differently over the years, but always were related to transportation and, particularly, personal mobility devices. The paper first delineates the course and illustrates examples of the outcomes. Then, unique aspects and challenges of the course that have been observed through the six runs and that are associated with the intercultural and interdisciplinary nature are indicated and discussed. The author is convinced that this course has been successful in helping prepare the students for globally-operating manufacturing companies in the future. It is hoped that the findings from this course and the discussions contained in this paper would help those who plan to offer similar courses.
