Purpose: We developed and tested the effects of a care program for dementia patients among community- dwelling older adult men. Methods: This study used a non-equivalent control group pre-and post-test design. To verify the effectiveness of the care program for dementia patients, 26 community dwelling older adult men participated in this study. We used multiple intervention strategies including improving understanding of dementia through education, activities for dementia prevention, and promoting psychological change. In particular, based on the current understanding of the care of the men older adults, we used strategies to promote motivation and reinforce strengths. Results: After completing the 6-week intervention program, when compared with the control group, older adult men in the care program intervention group showed significant differences in scores for the following: cognitive functions (p=.035), attitude toward dementia (p=.026), preventive behavior (p=.007), geriatric depression (p=.013), caring confidence (p=.018), and self-esteem (p=.013). Conclusion: These results indicate that the care program for dementia patients has positive effects on increasing their cognitive function, attitude toward dementia, preventive behavior, caring confidence, self-efficacy, and on decreasing depression rates in this population. Based on this, we can recommend this program to men caregivers for the improved care of dementia in community centers.
Purpose: This study was a descriptive research to identify the relationships among burden from behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia, dementia attitude, emotional labor and nurse's caring behavior as well as to clarify factors that affect caring behavior of nurses in long-term care hospital. Methods: For the research, this study collected data from July 8 to July 20, in 2019 with 214 nurses who worked at 10 long-term care hospitals in Chungbuk. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, Mann-Whitney U test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: Factors influencing caring behavior of nurses in long-term care hospital were dementia attitudes (β=.549, p<.001), burden from behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia (β=.242, p<.001) and marital status (β=.134, p=.017). These factors explained 33.9% of caring behavior (F=37.35, p<.001). Conclusion: Dementia attitudes were confirmed to be the main variable influencing nurse's caring behavior. Therefore, to improve the caring behavior of dementia patient, it is considered that the development of programs to improve dementia attitudes and in-depth understanding regarding the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia is necessary.
This study examined the effect of maternal cognitive empathy on children's executive function focusing on mediating effects of preschooler's caring behavior and happiness. The subject of this study was 460 five-year-old preschooler-their mother dyads in Korea. Data were collected by Korean Version of Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy(K-QCAE), Caring Behaviors Scale for Young Children, Happiness Scale for Young Children and Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Preschool Version(BRIEF-P). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, Pearson correlation analysis, structural equation model and bootstrapping test with SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0 program. The major results were as follows. 1) Maternal cognitive empathy had a positive influence on preschooler's caring behavior. 2) Preschooler's caring behavior had a positive influence on happiness and executive function. 3) Preschooler's happiness had a positive influence on executive function. 4) The effect of maternal cognitive empathy on preschooler's executive function was mediated by preschooler's caring behavior. 5) The effect of maternal cognitive empathy on preschooler's executive function was sequentially mediated by preschooler's caring behavior and happiness. This study revealed that maternal cognitive empathy, preschooler's caring behavior, and happiness have an important role in preschooler's executive function. Most of all, we suggest that maternal cognitive empathy should be improved to promote preschooler's executive function. The findings of this study will contribute to designing intervention programs to improve preschooler's executive function as well as maternal empathy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of young children's empathic ability and interpersonal competence on caring behavior in forming relationships. Subjects included 152 4- and 5-year-old children attending a kindergarten located in a micropolitan city. Questionnaires required self-reporting by teachers, and were used to investigate young children's caring behavior, empathic ability and interpersonal competence in forming relationships. Data was analyzed using t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis and Stepwise-Regression analysis. Results were as follows: First, young children's caring behavior was negatively correlated with empathic ability and positively associated with interpersonal competence in forming relationships. Second, young children's emotional behavior as each domain of caring behavior were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of the social reactivity and explaining the relative effect of relationship formation. Active behaviors were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of follow-up instructions, but negatively affected mental burden. Normative behaviors were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of social reactivity, but negatively predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of the relationship formation and mental burden. Value-contributing behavior in each domain of caring behavior were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of the positive interaction.
Purpose: To identify the relationship between care worker's awareness of human rights and the compliance of caring behaviors among long-term care workers, and to identify factors affecting compliance with caring behaviors. Methods: Using self-report questionnaires, data were collected from 153 long-term care workers between October 4th and October 20th, 2019. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results: The data indicate a difference in awareness of human rights according to: the careers of care workers, the possession of other health care-related licenses, and the perceived needs of human rights education. The data also indicate a difference in the compliance of caring behaviors according to: gender, family care experience, and dementia care experience. The factors influencing compliance of caring behaviors, according to the study, are gender (β=.19, p=.009), family care experience (β=.19, p=.023), and human rights (β=.38, p<.001). It was found that 23% could explain the compliance of caring behaviors. Conclusion: Long term care workers were found to have a higher level of the compliance of caring behaviors as their awareness of human rights increased. In order to increase the compliance of caring behaviors among long-term care workers, more educational programs on human rights should be provided.

Purpose: This study was done to develop and test validity and reliability of on instrument for predicting nursing intention for SARS patient care. Method: The psychometric properties of a SARS patient care attrition prediction tool, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, were examined in this study. The Three-phase design involved a) salient beliefs generated from clinical nurses (n=43) b) content validation by expert panel evaluations(n=5) c) face validation by plot testing (n=10) d) and instrument validation in a cross sectional survey (n=299). Psychometric analysis of survey data provided empirical evidence of the construct validity and reliability of the instrument. Result: Principal component analysis verified the hypothesized 6-factor solution, explaining $68.2\%$ of variance, and Alpha coefficients of .7538 to .9389 indicated a high internal consistency of the instrument. Conclusion: The instrument can be used by nurse administrators and researcher to assess clinical nurses' salient beliefs about caring for SARS patients, guide tailored intervention strategies to effective caring, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
