  • A shop floor control system (SFCS) is the central part of a CIM system used to control the activities of several pieces of manufacturing equipment (e.g., NC machines, robots, conveyors, AGVs, AS/RS). The SFCS receives orders and related process plans, and then performs selecting a specific process routing, allocating resources, scheduling the workpieces, downloading the processing instructions (e.g., RS-274 instructions for NC machines, VAL II programs for robot), monitoring the progress of activities, detecting and recovering from errors, and preparing reports on the status of the manufacturing system. Simulation has been utilized in discovering control policies used for resolving shop floor be control problems such as resource contentions, part dispatching, deadlock. The simulation model must be designed to respond to real-time data coming from a shop floor. However, to rapidly build a realtime simulation model of SFCS cannot be easily accomplished. This talk is to address an automatic program generator of discrete event simulation model for shop floor control from process plans and resource models. The program generator is capable of constructing complete discrete simulation models for multi-product and multi-stage flexible manufacturing systems.

  • The computed tomography(CT) simulation tool provides virtual experimental environment without using a high cost medical equipment. We made teaching materials for the CT simulation tools and educated the students and entry level of radio-technologists. We divided the experimental objects into two groups; students who took only theoretical classes (group 1) and students who took both theoretical and simulation classes (group 2). The results showed that the group 2 outperformed group 1 significantly, which indicates that the simulation program provides a good educational material for not only students but also radio-technologists.

  • This paper presents the modeling of insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) in electromagnetic transients program (EMTP) simulation for the reliable calculation of switching and conduction losses. The conventional approach considering the physical property of switching devices requires many attribute parameters and large computation efforts. In contrast, the proposed method uses the curve fitting and interpolation techniques based on typical switching waveforms and a user-defined component with variable resistances to capture the dynamic characteristics of IGBTs. Therefore, the simulation time can be efficiently reduced without losing the accuracy while avoiding the extremely small time step, which is required in simulation by the conventional method. The EMTP based simulation includes turn-on and turn-off transients of IGBT, saturation state, forward voltage of free-wheeling diode, and reverse recovery characteristics, etc. The effectiveness of proposed modeling for the EMTP simulation is verified by the comparison with experimental results obtained from practical implementation in hardware.

  • Lunar Navigation Satellite System refers to a constellation of satellite providing PNT services on the moon. LNSS consists of main satellite and navigation satellites. Navigation satellites orbiting around the moon and a main satellite moves the area between the moon and the L2 point. The navigation satellite performs the same role as the Earth's GNSS satellite, and the main satellite communicates with the Earth for time synchronization. Due to the effect of the non-uniform shape of the moon, it is necessary to focus on the influence of the lunar gravitational field when designing the orbit simulation for navigation satellite. Since the main satellite is farther away from the moon than the navigation satellite, both the earth's gravity and the moon's gravity must be considered simultaneously when designing the orbit simulation for main satellite. Therefore, the main satellite orbit simulation must be designed through the three-body problem between the Earth, the moon, and the main satellite. In this paper, the orbit simulation tool for main satellite and navigation satellite required for LNSS was designed. The orbit simulation considers the environment characteristics of the moon. As a result of comparing long-term data (180 days) with the commercial program GMAT, it was confirmed that there was an error of about 1 m.

  • Purpose: Despite the clinical and socio-economic impact of acute poisoned patients, many of the treatments are not standardized in Korea. Moreover, no formal training that is specifically focused on clinical toxicology exists. Rather, training and education are conducted case by case in various institutions. This study was conducted to develop a standardized simulation-based clinical toxicology training curriculum for healthcare providers. This program will focus on specific assessment and treatment of critical toxicology patients, specifically those who have been poisoned with organophosphate. Methods: The study was performed using a pre- and post-design to determine the effects of implementation of this program. The study was conducted at eight different urban teaching hospitals in a simulated room in the clinical area. The study was targeted to 19 groups composed of emergency residents and nurses. Simulation-based learning was conducted for each group. Results: All 19 groups achieved the minimum passing score of 75%. Implementation of the program led to improved performance rates for overall management and cooperative moods competency (p<0.01). Inter-rater agreement between the two evaluators was excellent. In general, the participants thought the program was realistic and were able to recognize and improve the competencies needed to care for organophosphate poisoned patients. Conclusion: Simulation-based learning is an effective educational strategy that can be applied to improving and understanding proper care for rare but critical patients. This program was effective at improving team performance and cooperative moods when managing an organophosphate poisoned patient in the Emergency Department.

  • This study developed a Windows-based simulation program for selecting equipments in open-pit shovel-truck haulage systems. Visual Basic.NET 2012 was used to develop the graphic user interface (GUI) and the GPSS/H simulation language was utilized to implement the simulation engine of program. When users establish simulation parameters through the GUI, the program calls the simulation engine to perform the simulations repeatedly. Then, it finds the optimal fleet of equipments required for operating the open-pit shovel-truck haulage systems efficiently. Application of the program to the Ssangyong open-pit limestone mine, Gangwon-do, Korea, showed that the daily average profit of shovel-truck haulage operation can be maximized (i.e. 88,552 USD) under following conditions: (a) 4 trucks are dispatched into each loading point and (b) a crusher with capacity of 1,500tph is utilized.
