Analysis on Voltage and Cost of Substation with PWM Rectifier in DC Traction Power Supply System (PWM 정류기를 적용한 직류급전시스템의 전압강하 및 비용 평가)

  • Near surface transit system has should be constructed as installation cost of light rail transit with elevated track. So, distance between two substations is longer than conventional system. The long feeding distance results in severe voltage drop. This paper proposes a PWM rectifier instead of diode rectifier. The PWM rectifier has some advantages. This is able to control output voltage constantly to reduce voltage drop and to use regeneration power without additional inverter. This paper analyse on improved voltage profile and cost of substation with PWM rectifier. The analysis of voltage profile use PSIM, and the installation cost of substation with PWM rectifier is compared to substation with diode rectifier.

  • LDC(Line Drop Compensation) is widely used in controlling ULTC(Under Load Tap Changer) output voltage at distribution substation. However, LDC may experience some difficulties in voltage control due to renewable energy resources and distributed generations. Therefore, more advanced voltage control algorithm is necessary to deal with these problems. In this paper, a modified voltage control algorithm for ULTC and DG is suggested. ULTC is operated with the voltages measured at various points in distribution system and prevents overvoltage and undervoltage in the distribution feeders. Reactive power controller in DG compensates the voltage drop in each distribution feeders. By these algorithms, the voltage unbalance between feeders and voltage limit violation will be reduced and the voltage profile in each feeder will become more flat.

  • Recently, most network communication chips are powered; which causes power consumption a heavily constraint. Since, there are a lot of expectations on TPM to have a high performance in terms of authentication of its device. During the design process there is a need to estimate the security of the design but it always when the chip has already been manufactured. This paper designed a power consumption control monitor in TPM device which evaluate the voltage drop during processing of use. Therefore we will analyze the power consumption profile. The result shows that the voltage drop leads to vulnerability of the system to attackers during communication process.

  • For stable and sustainable energy supply, distributed generator (DG) has become an essential and indispensable element from environmental and energy security perspectives. However, installation of DG in distribution systems may cause negative affects on feeders because power outputs of DG could be changed irregularly. One of major negative affects is variation in voltage profile. In general, voltage regulation devices such as under load tap changer (ULTC) at distribution substation and step voltage regulator (SVR) along feeder in distribution system are used to maintain customers' receiving voltage within a predetermined range. These regulators are controlled by line drop compensation (LDC) method which calls for two parameters; the equivalent impedance and the load center voltage. Therefore, consideration of DG outputs in the LDC parameter design procedure may give large impact on the installable DG capacity. This paper proposes a method that estimates maximum Installable DG capacity considering LDC parameters of ULTC and SVR. The proposed algorithm is tested with model network.

  • This paper is intended to solve the technical problem that fails in large-capacity induction motor starting due to serious voltage drop during starting period. One induction motor that is established already can reach in steady-state using reactor starting method but the voltage magnitude of PCC (point of common coupling) has dropped down a little. When the same capacity induction motor is installed additionally in the PCC, where the existing induction motor is operating, voltage drop becomes more serious by starting of additional induction motor. As a result, the additional induction motor fails in starting. Therefore, voltage compensation method is proposed so that all of two induction motors can be started completely. First, modeling technique is described in order to implement starting characteristics of large induction motor. And then, this paper proposes strategic starting scheme by proper voltage compensation that use no-load transformer tap control (NLTC) and step voltage regulator (SVR) for starting of two large induction motors successfully and improving the feeding network voltage profile during the starting period. The induction motor discussed in this paper is the pumped induction motor of 2500kVA capacity that is operating by KOWACO (Korea Water Resources Corporation). Modeling and simulation is conducted using PSCAD/EMTDC software.

Methods of Improving Operational Reliability of Oil Well Casing

  • Oil well casing leak is caused by contact of casing outer surface with formation electrolyte. It is usually associated with an aquifer with a high salt content or absence of a cement ring behind the casing. The only way to reduce external casing corrosion is through cathodic protection. Through cathodic polarization of casing structure, electron content in crystal lattice and electron density will increase, leading to a potential shift towards the cathodic region. At Tatneft enterprises, cathodic protection is carried out according to cluster and individual schemes. The main criterion for cathodic protection is the size of protective current. For a casing, the protective current is considered sufficient if measurements with a two-contact probe show that the electric current directed to the casing has eliminated all anode sites. To determine the value of required protective current, all methods are considered in this work. In addition, an analysis of all methods used to determine the minimum protective current of the casing is provided. Results show that the method of measuring potential drop along casing is one of the most reliable methods for determining the value of protective current.

  • Transient thermal analysis simulations are carried out using a modeling program to understand the human body model HBM ESD. The devices were simulated a one-dimensional device subjected to ESD stress by solving Poison's equation, the continuity equation, and heat flow equation. A ramp rise with peak ESD voltage during rise time is applied to the device under test and then discharged exponentially through the device. LDD and NMOS structures were studied to evaluate ESD performance, snap back voltages, device heating. Junction heating results in the necessity for increased electron concentration in the space charge region to carry the current by the ESD HBM circuit. The doping profile adihacent to junction determines the amount of charge density and magnitude of the electric field, potential drop, and device heating. Shallow slopes of LDD tend to collect the negative charge and higher potential drops and device heating.

  • In this study, the IR drop theory was adopted to explain the initiation of crevice corrosion in the framework of IR drop in crevice electrolyte. Furthermore, the electrochemical polarization was measured to study the mechanism of crevice corrosion for type STS430 stainless steel. lest method adopts under condition that the size of specimen is $10\times20\times5mm,\;in\;1N\;H_2SO_4+0.1N\;NaCl$ solution, and the artificial crevice gap sizes are three kinds, the Micro capillary tube size is inner diameter 0.04 mm, outer diameter 0.08 mm. Crevice corrosion is measured under the applied voltage of passivation potential -200mV/SCE, resulted from anodic potentio-dynamic polarization to the external surface along the crevice. The potential difference was measured by depth profile by Micro capillary tube which inserted in the crevice. The obtained results of this study showed that 1) As artificial crevice gap size became narrow, the current density was increased, whereas no crevice corrosion was found in the crevice gap size $3\times0.5\times16mm\;in\;1N\;H_2SO_4+0.1N\;NaCl\;solution\;at\;20^{\circ}C$ 2) potential of the crevice was about from -220 to -358mV which is lower than that of external surface potential of -200mV The results so far confirmes that the potential drop(so-called IR drop) in the crevice is one of the major mechanisms the process of crevice corrosion for 430 stainless steel.

Efficient Decoupling Capacitor Optimization for Subsystem Module Package

  • The mobile device industry demands much higher levels of integration and lower costs coupled with a growing awareness of the complete system's configuration. A subsystem module package is similar to a board-level circuit that integrates a system function in a package beyond a System-in-Package (SiP) design. It is an advanced IC packaging solution to enhance the PDN and achieve a smaller form factor. Unlike a system-level design with a decoupling capacitor, a subsystem module package system needs to redefine the role of the capacitor and its configuration for PDN performance. Specifically, the design of package's form factor should include careful consideration of optimal PDN performance and the number of components, which need to define the decoupling capacitor's value and the placement strategy for a low impedance profile with associated cost benefits. This paper will focus on both the static case that addresses the voltage (IR) drop and AC analysis in the frequency domain with three specific topics. First, it will highlight the role of simulation in the subsystem module design for the PDN. Second, it will compare the performance of double-sided component placement (DSCP) motherboards with the subsystem module package and then prove the advantage of the subsystem module package. Finally, it will introduce three-terminal decoupling capacitor (decap) configurations of capacitor size, count and value for the subsystem module package to determine the optimum performance and package density based on the cost-effective model.

Configuration and Ground Tests of Solar Cell and Fuel Cell Powered System for Long Endurance UAV (장기체공 무인기용 태양전지-연료전지를 활용한 동력원 구성 및 지상시험)

  • Each of power systems of solar cell and fuel cell were configured and validated for long endurance UAV, as the preliminary research for the integration of power systems. Solar power system consisted of solar modules fabricated by solar cells of Sunpower's C60, commercial solar MPPT controller and Li-po battery, and then was validated. The re-start characteristics of hydrogen production from $NaBH_4$ hydrolysis was validated for operating the commercial fuel cell. The average voltage drop of Li-po battery in solar power system was -2.9 V/hour. The performance of re-start characteristics of $NaBH_4$ hydrolysis was stable in sequence mode of mission profile. Each of single systems were satisfied for the proposed mission profile.
