  • As collaborative design and configuration design are of increasing importance in product development, it becomes essential to exchange the feature and parametric CAD models among participants. A history-based parametric method has been proposed and implemented. But each translator which exchanges the feature and parametric information tends to be heavy because to implement duplicated functions such as the identification of the selected geometries, mapping between features which have different attributes. Furthermore. because the history-based parametric translator uses the procedural model as the neutral format, which is the XML macro file, the history-based parametric translators need a geometric modeling kernel to generate an internal explicit geometric model. To ease the problem, we implemented a shared integration platform, the TransCAD. The TransCAD separates translators from the XML macro files. The translators for various CAD systems need to communicate with only the TransCAD. To support the communication with the TransCAD, we exposed the functions of the TransCAD by using the Automation APIs, which is developed by Microsoft. The Automation APIs of the TransCAD consist of the part modeling functions, the data extraction functions, and the utility functions. Each translator uses these functions to translate a parametric CAD model from the sending CAD system into the XML format, or from the in format into the model of the receiving CAD system This paper introduces what the TransCAD is and how it works for the exchange of the feature and parametric models.

  • Metallic paint is one of the most widely used coating in automotive, cosmetic and other applications because of its well-known ability to give a product realistic look which creates widespread consumer appeal. But, this coating has complicated subsurface structure which includes pigments, flakes, and transparent clearcoat. Though various analytic reflection models are available to simulate appearance of various surfaces, it is difficult to select an appropriate reflection model with faithful parameters for simulating this coating due to the complex subsurface structure of metallic paints. This paper presents a framework for accurate modeling of metallic coating by determining an appropriate reflection model among various existing BRDF (Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function) models. The selection of the appropriate model is achieved by measuring BRDF of various metallic paint samples using a BRDF measuring device i.e. gonioreflectometer and fitting an existing model to the measured data. Then, this model is effectively realized by rendering metallic painted surfaces. We believe that this framework can serve as a guide for those who wants to render metallic painted surfaces accurately with analytic BRDF model without expending time on extracting BRDF data using gonioreflectometer from real metallic paint sample.

  • One of reasons for introducing Building Information Modeling (BIM) is to support clash detection tasks by means of a 3D product model. In the conventional construction project process, clashes have been found during construction phase. However, it can cause cost overrun and time delay. In order to investigate and correct clash detections at design phase, relevant business process and guide for this task should be provided. This study aims to identify hindrances in clash detection tasks at the design phase and analyze its current process using IDEF0 model. Despite the convenience of IDEF0 as a systems analysis tool, professional participants might have difficulties to understand their own tasks according to business process. For this reason, in this research, Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is introduced to provide ideal process and required decision making governance. The provide BPMN model will provide insights for a BIM-based collaborative environment to enhance the constructability through the construction project.

  • In the product design process computer-aided engineering and optimization tools are widely utilized in order to reduce the total development time and cost. Since several simulation tools are involved in the process, information losses, omissions, or errors are common and the importance of seamless information exchange among the tools has been increased. In this study ISO STEP standards are adopted to represent the neutral format for CAE/CAO information exchange. The schema of AP209 is used to define the information of finite element analysis and the new schema is proposed to describe the information of structural optimization based on the STEP methodology. The schema is implemented by EXPRESS, information modeling language, and ST-Developer is employed to generate C++ classes and STEP Rose Library by using the schema denoted. To substantiate the proposed approach, the information access interfaces of the finite element modeling software (FEMAP), structural optimization software (GENESIS) and in-house topology optimization program are developed. Examples of the size optimization of a three-bar truss and topology optimization of a MBB beam are shown to validate the information exchange of finite element analysis and structural optimization using STEP standards.

  • 21century design is working in order to increase the accessibility, eliminating alienation hierarchy for the use of the product. Efforts to these design approach are not intended for a small number of users. It offers the advantage of a variety of design for users of a wider range. So, it was allowed to extend the value in good design for all human beings. Traditional thought is expressed in a variety of shapes by applying meaning to another re-interpretation for the form to contemporary furniture and structure and decoration. Gyeongsang have a religious solemn feeling in the typical furniture of hall space that reflects the inner distinctive tradition thought of scholar of the Chosun Dynasty. For these reasons, in the present study, based on the modeling elements of Gyeongsang, which is based on the traditional idea of our country, there is the purpose to propose a design of agreed with table in modern lifestyle. Design concept proposed in this paper, to be applied to the design of the table is placed in the living space by re-interpreting the modeling properties which can be felt in the thin form and structure and patterns as modern image.

  • The interest of data mining in artificial intelligence with fuzzy logic has been increased. Data mining is a process of extracting desirable knowledge and interesting pattern ken large data set. Because of expansion of WWW, web data is more and more huge. Besides mining web contents and web structures, another important task for web mining is web usage mining which mines web log data to discover user access pattern. The goal of web usage mining in this paper is to find interesting user pattern in the web with user feedback. It is very important to find user's characteristic fer e-business environment. In Customer Relationship Management, recommending product and sending e-mail to user by extracted users characteristics are needed. Using our method, we extract user profile from the result of web usage mining. In this research, we concentrate on finding association rules and verify validity of them. The proposed procedure can integrate fuzzy set concept and association rule. Fuzzy association rule uses given server log file and performs several preprocessing tasks. Extracted transaction files are used to find rules by fuzzy web usage mining. To verify the validity of user's feedback, the web log data from our laboratory web server.

  • In this paper, the FREECAD 0.14 was used for modeling conventional Selfie-stick and the newly proposed Selfie-stick design. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the utility of FREECAD 0.14, which is open-source and still in development for further use. After modeling the conventional Selfie-stick, CatiyaV5 was used to assemble FREECAD 0.14 drawn elements. Main advance in newly designed Selfie-stick is the portability. To improve portability of the Selfie-stick, folding mechanism was adopted from folding LED stands. Several mechanisms were adopted to improve user convenience as well. Ansys 14.0 was used for structural analyses of conventional Selfie-stick model and the newly designed model as well. Several simplifications for the models were needed to process the analyses. When analyzing the newly designed model various materials were used one by one to find compatible composition. Using Aluminum alloys for the stick and the hand grip was found to be compatible. FREECAD was useful for suggestion of the newly designed model but not so much useful to design an actual product. Various efforts would make FREECAD the best choice for industrial use for free as it is named.

  • A kinetic model incorporating cell morphology in cephalosporin C biosynthesis by Cephalosporium amemoniurn was developed. The double-substrate Double-substrate kinetic model was used to describe cell growth. Methionine controlled the rate of growth while glucose ultimately controlled the extent of growth. The changes in specific product formation rate were associated with morphologenesis, especially cell differentiation. To increase the productivity of cephalosporin C, the proposed model equations were applied to a fed-batch culture. The algorithm to optimize the fed-batch culture consists of two steps; cell growth was maximized in the growth phase and then cephalosporin C production was maximized in the production phase. The increase of about 33% in the cephalosporin C titre was obtained by the optimal feeding scheduling in comparison with that of batch culture.

  • Because of the reduced product life-cycle, industries are making an effort to bring down the process planning time. In the traditional approach, we have to analyze established process planning, then design the time chart based on process information and drawing the formal time chart such as SOP(sequence of operation). Thereafter, it will be converted to PLC code that is a time consuming and redundant job. Similarly, Industrial automated process uses PLC Code to control the factory; however, control information and control code(PLC code) are difficult to understand. Hence, industries prefer writing new control code instead of using the existing one. It shows the lack of information reusability in the existing process planning. As a result, to reduce this redundancy and lack of reusability, we propose SOS-Net modeling method. Unlike past stabilized process planning that is rigid to any change; our proposed SOS-Net modeling method is more adaptable to the new changes. The SOS-Net model is easy to understand and easy to convert into PLC Code accordingly. Therefore, we can easily modify the control information and reuse it for new process planning. The proposed model plays an intermediary role between process planning and PLC code generation. It can reduce the process planning and implementation time as well as cost.
