The results of study on the yield and absorption of N and K applied to the chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis) which was grown at comparatively infertile red-yellow soil in the fall of 1980 are summerized as below. 1. The optimum quantities of potash to be applied for the autumn chinese cabbage is suggested in the range of 15kg-20kg/10a, $K_2O$. 2. Combined treatments of N and K showed a positive interaction by promoting the effect of the other element. The increase of Nitrogen absorption from the additionally applied 10kgs of nitrogen on top of 15kg N/10a showed only 16 per cent at potash minus plot, while that of potash applied plot showed 60 per cent. The cabbage yield increase therefor, at high rate of nitrogen only was 1,700kgs per 10 are over low rate of nitrogen, while high nitrogen plus potash treatment produced additional 2,200kgs over the low rates of N and K. 3. Additional 10kgs of nitrogen applied on top of 15kgs N/10a resulted in increasing soil potassium uptake; 4kgs of soil potassium was additionally absorbed at potash applied plot and 6.5kgs at potash minus plot. 4. Utilization of applied potash was greater at low rates of N, and K application (each 15kgs of N and $K_2O$ per 10a) where 77 per cent of applied potash was utilized, while high rates of N and K application (each 25kgs of N and $K_2O$ per 10a) showed 44 per cent of potash utilization rate. Lower utilization of applied potash at high rate of nitrogen application is due probably to greater uptake of soil potassium. 5. N and K contents in the chinese cabbage are 0.17-0.20% and 0.35-0.43% respectively and these were not statistically correlated with the yields.
This experiment was conducted to find out the effect of competitive duration and density of Cyperus serotinus Rottb. on rice growth and yield. In plant height of both rice and flatsedge, the compacter density of flatsedge, the higher was plant height. Rice in the 50 days competition with flatsedge had shorter culm than in other competition plots at all density. The panicle number was affected during the tillering stage. The spikelet number per panicle was influenced from 25 days to 50 days after transplanting. Grain maturity ratio and 1,000 grain-weight didn't decrease under competition before 50 days after transplanting. The competition during the tillering stage to the young panicle initiation stage decreased significantly rice yield. The rice competed with low density of flat sedge showed small decrement of yield and its components. The period reaching to maximum stem number of flatsedge become shorter as flatsedge density increased. Number of flatsedge tubers competed with rice produced was 40.1, 16.8 and 11.4 times as much in 1: 1, 1:3 and 1:5 density ratio of rice to flatsedge, respectively. Flatsedge dry matter weight and rough rice yield had the relationship of Y = 601. 95-$0.67x^{**}$.

The optimum culture condition of Schizophyllum commune for the cellulase production and its enzymatic characteristics for saccharification of cellulosic biomass were analyzed. S. commune secrets ${\beta}$-1,4-xylosidase (BXL) and cellulases, including endo-${\beta}$-1,4-glucanase (EG), cellobiohydrolase (CBH), and ${\beta}$-glucosidase (BGL). The optimum reaction temperature for all cellulases was $50^{\circ}C$ and the thermostable range was $30{\sim}40^{\circ}C$C. The optimum reaction pH for all cellulases was 5.5 in a range of temperature from $0^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$. The best nutritions for the cellulase production of S. commune among tested nutrients were 2% cellulose for the carbon source and corn steep liquor or peptone/yeast extract for the nitrogen source without vitamins. The environmental culture condition for the cellulase production was 5.5~6.0 for pH at $25{\sim}30^{\circ}C$. The enzyme activities of EG, BGL, CBH, and BXL were 3670.5, 631.9, 398.5, and 15.2 U/$m{\ell}$, respectively, after concentration forty times from the culture broth of S. commune which was grown at the optimized culture condition. Alternative filter paper unit assay showed 11 FPU/$m{\ell}$ enzyme activity. The saccharification tests using cellulase of S. commune showed the low saccharification rate on tested hardwoods but a high value of 50.5% on cellulose, respectively. The saccharification rate (50.5%) of cellulose by cellulase produced in this work is higher than 45.7% in the commercial enzyme (Celluclast 1.5L, 30 FPU/g, glucan).
This study was conducted to estimate organic Hanwoo carrying capacity when whole crop wheat and triticale as winter forage crops were grown on different applying sources (no fertilizer, organic fertilizer or cattle slurry), and mixed sowing in combination with hairy vetch and forage pea at the level of 50% cattle slurry application during the period of 2009~2011. The experimental plots were consisted of 5 treatments. Each treatment was triplicates and allocated in the randomized complete block design. For whole crop wheat, annual mean dry matter (DM) yield was significantly (P<0.05) higher for fertilizer application treatments than for no fertilizer treatment, and crude protein (CP) yield was significantly (P<0.05) higher for forage pea and hairy vetch-mixed sowing treatments than for no fertilizer and organic ferilizer treatments. Mean CP, total digestible nutrients (TDN) and relative feed value (RFV) contents of legumes-mixed sowing treatments was significantly (P<0.05) higher than those of other treatments. As diets replaced with 70% whole crop wheat were provided for 450kg of Hanwoo heifers, legumes-mixed sowing treatments could raise more heifers than organic fertilizer and no fertilizer treatments. For triticale, annual mean DM, CP and TDN yields were significantly (P<0.05) higher for fertilizer application treatments than for no fertilizer treatment, and CP content of legumes-mixed sowing and cattle slurry application treatments was significantly (P<0.05) higher than that of other treatments. When 450kg of Hanwoo heifers were fed on diets replaced with 70% triticale, it was estimated that legumes-mixed sowing treatments at the level of 50% cattle slurry application could rear average 3.3~3.4 heads/ha/year, which was significantly (P<0.05) higher than no fertilizer treatment (2.5 heads/ha/year). It was indicated that DM yields of whole crop wheat and triticale were much more effective in cattle slurry application than organic fertilizer, and Legumes-mixed sowing at the level of 50% cattle slurry application rather than whole crop wheat or triticale alone increased yields per unit area and nutritional value such as CP content. In conclusion, it is conceived that whole crop wheat or triticale produced in the manner above can be used instead of grains imported as dietary protein sources in the organic Hanwoo feeding regimen.
The study was initiated to compare seasonal nutrient variations and rice (Oryza sativa L.) productivity in each of leading rice farm with conventionally managed and recommended fertilized of the large-scale environment-friendly agricultural districts in Jangheung, Suncheon, and Okcheon provinces in 2017. Suncheon rice experimental farm plots included a recommended fertilization plot that had been additionally sown hairy vetch in the fall of previous year, while Okcheon rice farm included a recommended fertilization plot applying half amount of the compost in the conventional plot. A Jangheung rice farm only practiced crop-livestock farming system. Soil pH and EC in all experimental plots were suitable levels for rice growth to cultivate. Seasonal soil pH from March to September was the highest for Suncheon rice farm, and seasonal soil EC was the highest for Jangheung rice farm. Seasonal soil T-N increased in all the plots from March to June in particular for Suncheon rice farm, and Jangheung rice farm had the lowest seasonal soil P. Seasonal soil K decreased in all the plots, with the lowest levels observed for Okcheon farm. Seasonal soil NH4+ mostly increased by up to 90 mg/kg in Jangheung rice farm from March to June. Seasonal plant T-N, P and K concentrations were the highest for Jangheung rice farm. Seasonal plant T-N and P concentrations decreased from June to September, but K leveles were fluctuated between 2.0% and 2.5%. Seasonal SPAD value was the lowest in Suncheon conventional plot. Jangheung rice farm plot produced 6,303 kg of rice per ha, which was approximately two times higher than those of Okcheon recommended plot. The seasonal T-N, P and K balance was the highest in Okcheon conventional plot, with the lowest values observed for Suncheon conventional plot. As a result, Suncheon recommended plot showed relatively low levels of seasonal macro-nutrient balance and the highest rice production, which could be the most environmentally friendly farm practiced conducted in this study.

This study was conducted to elucidate the optimal nitrogen content for each variety of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) by investigating the change in the characteristics of fruiting body according to the nitrogen content of the sawdust media, and to use the results as the basic data for cultivation of high quality oyster mushroom. The nitrogen content was adjusted to 1.3%, 1.6%, 1.8% and 2.3%, and at each condition, mycelial growth was observed, which showed that the nitrogen content did not affect the rate of mycelial growth and density substantially. In the investigation of the characteristics of fruiting body, at the 1.8% nitrogen content, Chunchu No.2 showed the pileus diameter of 27 mm, and the stipe diameter and length of 11 mm and 61 mm, respectively, and the measurement of its color values revealed that the brightness of the pileus and the stipe was 31 and 80, respectively, offering the best commercial value, and yielding 25 valid stipes, which was the largest number. Likewise, at the 1.8% nitrogen content, Heuktari also showed the excellent growth characteristics including the pileus diameter of 29 mm and the stipe diameter and length of 10 mm and 68 mm, respectively, and the superb color values of the brightness of 37 at the pileus and 78 at the stipe. Moreover, the number of valid stipes was also found to be the highest with 19. In terms of morphological characteristics such as the pileus diameter and color, Soltari also produced the best mushrooms at the 1.8% nitrogen content and the number of valid stipes was high with 22. In summary, irrespective of varieties of oyster mushroom, high quality products could be cultivated at the nitrogen content of 1.8%.
The effects of black garlic (Allium sativum L.) addition on the quality characteristics of low-fat and low-salt meatballs during cold storage were investigated. Meatballs were divided into five groups: none (control), 0.1% ascorbic acid (T1), 1% black garlic (T2), 2% black garlic (T3), and 3% black garlic (T4). pH and lightness values were lower in the treatment groups than in controls by storage time. pH and lightness values were decreased with increasing addition of black garlic (p<0.05). Addition of black garlic to meatball resulted in significantly higher TBARS values than that of control and T1 at day 1 (p<0.05). However, the addition of black garlic to meatball resulted in significantly lower VBN values than that of control after storage for 14 d. On day 14 or 21, the VBN values of meatball with added black garlic were lower than those of control and decreased with increasing addition of black garlic (p<0.05). Although addition of black garlic produced low acceptance of color scores, the flavor, tenderness, and juiciness of meatball with added black garlic were similar to those of control and T1 (p>0.05). Based on the current results, addition of black garlic could be recommended for preventing protein degradation in low-salt and low-fat meatball. Further, black garlic could be useful to the pork meat product industry as a food additive.
A marine bacterium, designated as strain 50C-3, was isolated from a seawater sample collected from the East Sea of South Korea. The strain is a Gram-negative, aerobic, yellow colored polar-flagellated bacterium that grows at $20-50^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.5-8.5. Optimal growth occurred at $40-50^{\circ}C$, at pH 6.5-7.5, and in the presence of 2% (w/v) NaCl. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, the isolate was considered to represent a member of the genus Ruegeria. The result of this analysis showed that strain 50C-3 shared 99.4% and 96.98% sequence similarity with Ruegeria intermedia CC-GIMAT-$2^T$ and Ruegeria lacuscaerulensis ITI-$1157^T$, respectively. Furthermore, strain 50C-3 showed clear differences from related strains in terms of several characteristics such as motility, carbon utilization, enzyme production, etc. The DNA G+C content was 66.7 mol%. Chemotaxonomic analysis indicated ubiquinone-10 (Q-10) as the predominant respiratory quinone. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, and phylogenetic characteristics, the isolate represents a novel variant of the Ruegeria intermedia CC-GIMAT-$2^T$, for which we named Ruegeria sp. 50C-3 (KCTC23890=DSM25519). Strain 50C-3 did not produce cellulase and agarase, but produced alkaline phosphatase, ${\alpha}$-galactosidase, and ${\beta}$-galactosidase. The three enzymes showed stable activities even at $50^{\circ}C$ and thus regarded as thermostable enzymes. Especially, the ${\beta}$-galactosidase activity enhanced by 1.9 times at $50^{\circ}C$ than that at $37^{\circ}C$, which may be very useful for industrial application.
The objectives of this study were performed to increase the efficiency of the culture conditions of embryos produced in vitro, and to assess the developmental potential after transfer of those embryos into recipients. The mean number of folliclular oocytes recovered from an ovary was 10.7. The rates of maturation and fertilization in Grade I oocytes were significantly (P<0.05) higher than Graden and III. Developmental rate into blastocyst in the culture group of TCM-199 with BOEC were significantly higher (P<0.05) than the groups of TCM-199 and conditioned medium (24.7% vs. 12.4% and 18.2%). The survivability of post-thawed blastocysts equilibrated for 3 min in EFS solution was significantly (P<0.05) lower than l0 for 1 and 2 min (32.1% vs. 82.9% and 73.3%). Significantly higher (P<0.05) survival rate in blastocysts was seen after freezing than in morulae stage embryos. Out of all 105 recipients, 49 (46.7%) were confirmed in pregnant. On pregnancy of cattle, 48 calves were born from 40 recipients. The ratio of twin and single calves was 30.5% (32/40 and 7.6% (8/40), respectively. However, the others composed of abnormal, as judging as 6 (12.2%) for abortion and 3 (6.1%) for stillbirth during the pregnant period.
Rough rice samples of four rice varieties were collected from twenty five locations through the country just after 1986 rice growing season. Various characteristics related to rice grain quality were observed to clarify the degree of locational variation of physico-chemical properties, and cooking and eating quality of rice grains. Grain weight, grain shape, degree of translucency and chalkiness of rice grain, amylogram properties of rice flour, water uptake during cooking, and cooked rice appearance were different between varieties tested. High degree of locational variation were found in following characteristics, degree of translucency and chalkiness of rice grain, water uptake during cooking, cooked rice appearance and amylogram properties. Eating quality of cooked rice indicated by sensory score showed different tendency of locational variation between rice varie-ties tested, and locations produced rice grains showing better eating quality were not coinside with among varieties tested. Grain weight, degree of translucency and chalkiness of rice grain, and cooked rice appearance of rice samples showing better eating quality were quite different to rice grains showing poor eating quality. Rice having better eating quality of a japonica variety, Chucheong, showed higher value of peak and final viscosity, viscosity after cooling, consistency and set back on amylograph compared with those of poor eating quality rices, and break down value of better rice was lower than that of poor rice. However, a Tongil type variety, Taebaek, did not show any consistent difference between better and poor rices. Rice samples from six locations in Chucheong and four locations in Taebaek showed special properties on amylogram compared with other rices collected in this study.
