  • Recently, the aim of cold storage warehouse is not only to provide preservation of the quality of perishable foods but also to use state-of-the-art information systems to rapidly move products across the cold chain. An RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is an automatic identification method that detects signals from mobile objects, and tracks and traces movement of the objects. RFID can be used to turn a cold storage warehouses into a real-time system. In this paper, we develop an cold storage management system to support the optimized business processes with RFID system. First of all, business processes in the cold storage warehouse are analyzed. Then design factors which should be considered for incorporating RFID are defined. Design values which set to the design factors can be extracted from using RFID deployment simulator. as a result, the design values make RFID to be efficiently integrated to existing business processes.

  • The importance of logistics of warehouse stores has increased as their prices are cheaper and more convenient than those of large supermarkets. However, few studies on integrated depot location selection of warehouse stores have been conducted. In this regard, this study aims to derive factors for integrated depot location selection and calculate weights and select the location priority of target candidates by introducing an analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The analysis results exhibited that the most important selection factor was the cost reduction in transportation and delivery (0.198) followed by distance reduction in transportation and delivery (0.168), and time reduction in transportation. This study quantified the reduction in cost and increase in efficiency if depots were integrated and operated thereby presenting more realistic foundational data to hands-on workers. For the future study, the analysis model will be needed to be advanced through additional investigation on the factors in the analysis.

  • During a construction project, construction managers must be provided with material information to help them to make decisions more efficiently without delaying the delivery of material. Construction work can be smoothly performed with the proper material supply. Construction duration depends on several material-related decisions, including the order, delivery, and allocation of material to the correct work location. Hence, it is worthwhile to introduce data warehouse techniques that generate subject-oriented and integrated data to construction material management. The data warehouse for construction material management can perform multidimensional analysis and then define KPIs (Key Performance Index) in order to provide construction managers with construction material information such as lead time, material delivery rate, material installation rate and so on. This research proposes a method of effectively facilitating large amounts of data in the operating systems during the construction management process. In other words, the proposed method can supply structured and multi-perspective material-related information using data warehouse techniques.

  • Recently, many enterprises have attempted to capitalize knowledge assets on data warehouse (DW). It has been recognized as strategic core process to create corporate competitive advantage and implement enterprise e-biz strategies. However, most approaches to represent knowledge and decision process have limits in considering various knowledge types, their relationships and continuity in knowledge formulation. In addition, they are so inclined to one side such as concept-oriented frameworks or technology-oriented ones. They lack universal and wide-ranging features. This paper presents a comprehensive methodology to accumulate knowledge capital on DW via a properly grained hypermedia model. The methodology consists of three phases: knowledge requirement elicitation, hypermedia modeling, and system implementation. A real-life case for medical DW development is presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed methodology. This methodology is effective when an organization accumulates knowledge assets to put the corporate e-biz or cre-biz strategy into practice.

  • Many companies have managed their business performance in order to achieve their enterprise purpose. Performance management which applied concept of BSC (Balanced Scorecard) is widely used all over the world. In the construction industry, BSC-based performance management is currently introduced with needs of balanced performance evaluation. However, most companies actually have intermediate level of adapting BSC. It is important to understand its process or and structure. Therefore, this paper is focused on making performance management process and defining each phase of it. In addition, the model and system are established with putting them together. With developing performance process in construction, the construction companies are supposed to detect the deficiencies of the current performance management systems and take some opportunity to be helped for supporting their decision-making. In conclusion, this paper will provide the construction industry with the opportunities to enhance the values of performance management system and construction application.

  • The On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) tools access data from the data warehouse for complex data analysis, such as multidimensional data analysis, and decision support activities. Current research has lead to new developments in all aspects of data warehousing, however, there are still a number of problems that need to be solved for making data warehousing effective. View maintenance, one of them, is to maintain view in response to updates in source data. Keeping the view consistent with updates to the base relations, however, can be expensive, since it may involve querying external sources where the base relations reside. In order to reduce maintenance costs, it is possible to maintain the views using information that is strictly local to the data warehouse. This process is usually referred to as "self-maintenance of views". A number of algorithm have been proposed for self maintenance of views where they keep some additional information in data warehouse in the form of auxiliary views. But those algorithms did not consider a consistency of materialized views using view self-maintenance. The purpose of this paper is to research consistency problem when self-maintenance of views is implemented. The proposed "conveyor algorithm" will resolved a complete consistency of materialized view using self-maintenance with considering network delay. The rationale for conveyor algorithm and performance characteristics are described in detail.

  • An important use of data warehousing is to provide temporal views over the history of source data. It is significant that nearly all data warehouses are dependent on relational database technology, yet relational databases provide little or no real support for temporal data. Therefore, in is difficult to obtain accurate information for time-varying data. In this paper, we are going to design a temporal data warehouse to support time-varying data efficiently. For this purpose, we present a method to support temporal query by combining a temporal query process layer with the relational database which is used as a source database in an existing data warehouse. We introduce the Temporal Aggregate Tree Strategy (TATS), and suggest its algorithm for the way to aggregate the time-varying data that is changed by the time when the temporal view is created. In addition, The TATS and the materialized view creation method of the existing data warehouse have been evaluated. As a result, the TATS reduces the size of the fact table and it shows a good performance for the comparison factor in case of processing the query for time-varying data.

  • In this study, we consider an assembly line operated under a base-stock policy. A product consists of two parts, and a finished product transfers to a warehouse in which demands are satisfied. Assume that demands arrive according to a Poisson process and processing times at each production line are exponentially distributed. Whenever a demand arrives, it is satisfied immediately from an inventory in the warehouse if available; otherwise, it is backlogged and satisfied later by the next product exiting from production lines. In either case, an arriving demand automatically triggers the production of a part at both production lines. These two parts will be assembled into a product that eventually transfers to the warehouse. We obtain a closed form formula of approximation for delay time or lead time distribution of a demand when a base- stock level is s. Moreover, it can be applied to the optimal base-stock level which minimizes the total inventory cost. Numerical examples are presented to show our optimal base-stock level's quality.

  • Using Information systems to process massive data, quickly and exactly, organizations have chances to enhance their performance. The limitations of IS function to support decision-making, however, have been frequently mentioned. In this context, in addition to traditional mathematical model that is a kernel of DSS, the needs for Data Warehouse which is a system supporting business process analysis are emerging. In this study, for those needs, first, we introduce issues of implementation methodology for D/W, especially various models relating development process. Then, we investigate correlation between these models and key factors for success of D/W.
