  • The availability of high-technology systems that use computer-aided design(CAD) and computer-aided machining(CAM) is on the increase. One such system is the Procera system, which fabricates an all-ceramic crown composed of a densely sintered, high-purity aluminum oxide coping combined with a compatible veneering porcelain. Strength, precision of fit, esthetics, cementation, and biocompatibility are among the many factors that concern clinicians when fabricating all-ceramic restorations with this system. This paper reviews the long history and background development of technical, laboratory and clinical applications and presents, in summary form, the data from the many studies on the Procera system.

  • The ginseng stem fungus gnat, Phytosciara procera, overwintered in old stems and roots of ginseng as a larvae from late September to early May in next year. In the late Spring they become pupa then emerged. Therefore, the first control period has to be set between late May and early June. It is a same period of elimination of ginseng flower stalks. Two or three times pest control might be needed per month for controlling adult of P. procera. Otherwise, the overwintered form as larva in old stem by removal of old stems of ginseng, the population of first generation of P. procera adults could be reduced. However, it seemed that the removal of old stems was not necessarily correlated with the population of P. procera adults in the next generation. Three kinds of environmental-friendly control agents that were mainly contained sophora extract, showed the highly insecticidal activities against larva of P. procera. Among them, one agent containing sophora extract and paraffin oil showed an ovicidal action as well as oviposition repellency.

  • Background: The present study aims to identify the pattern and size of Juniperus species (Juniperus phoenicea and J. procera) in the natural forests in terms of tree dimension, size structure and density, discussing the existing both species in Sarrawat Mountains for suggesting the preservation, conservation, and sustainable development. For achieving this, the height and mean crown diameter of each individual was measured based on 2-4 diameter measurements per ind. (506 ind. for J. phoenicea and 322 ind. for J. procera). Results: The size index of both species was classified into 7 classes: the first (< 100 cm) and the second (100-200 cm) classes were chosen to represent the juvenile stage. The total mean of the J. phoenicea population increased with the increase of altitude, while the whole population decreased after altitude of 2,000 m. The total mean of the J. procera population increased with the increase of altitude till altitude of 2,000-2,100 m. Conclusions: The present study indicated that both of species grow at low altitudes, they only grow at altitude above 1,700 m above sea level. The present study indicated that the study area has the two Juniperus spp. (J. phoenicea and J. procera) associated together all over the area. The results were discussed and compared with other related studies.

  • The present study was designed to explore an immunostimulating activity of crude extracts of Macrolepiota procera, and a combination therapy of cisplatin and Macrolepiota procera extracts which can potentiate the anti-cancer activity of cisplatin. For these, water extraction of Macrolepiota procera were performed at $4^{\circ}C$(MPE-4) and $100^{\circ}C$(MPE-100). In experimental metastasis of colon26-M3.1 cells, prophylactic intravenous administration of MPE ($80-2,000{\mu}g$/mouse) inhibited tumor metastasis compared with tumor control. Peritoneal macrophages stimulated with MPE produced IL-12 as well as induced tumoricidal activity. In an analysis of NK-cell activity, i.v. administration of MPE ($200{\mu}g$/mouse) significantly augmented NK cytotoxicity to YAC-1 tumor cells. The combination treatments of cisplatin ($20{\mu}g$) and MPE ($100{\mu}g$) exhibited prolongation of lifespan in colon26-M3.1 tumor bearing mouse. These results suggested that MPE stimulate immune system non-specifically and application as adjuvant in cancer treatment.

  • Green tides occur every year in the Yellow Sea (YS), and numerous investigations are proceeding on various aspects of the phenomenon. We have identified bloom-forming species collected from diverse locations in the YS using morphological traits and the chloroplast gene for the large subunit of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (rbcL). Morphological and rbcL sequence data analyses characterized the blooming species on both sides of the YS as belonging to the Ulva linza-procera-prolifera (LPP) complex clade or U. prolifera of earlier reports. However, U. procera within the LPP complex must be regarded as synonym of U. linza. Moreover, U. prolifera in free-floating samples collected from the Qingdao coast in 2009 was clearly in a distinct clade from that of the blooming species. Therefore, U. linza is the main green tide alga in the YS and has the procera-morphology. The green drift mats in the southeastern part of the YS (southwest sea of Korea) consisted predominantly of U. linza and rarely of U. compressa or U. prolifera.

  • $Calotropis$ $procera$ L. is a perennial shrub distributed in saline areas of deserts of South Asia. Salt stress is a very challenging subject in arid and semi-arid areas. Germination stage is very sensitive and many plants do not germinate in saline soil. The objective of this study was identifying the salinity effect on seed germination of $Calotropis$ $procera$ L. The experimental design was a complete randomized block design with NaCl and $CaCl_2$ at five levels of isobar concentrations: 0.0, -0.01, -0.05, -0.1, and -0.15 MPa. Osmotic potential had significant effects ($P$ < 0.01) on germination percentage, germination rate, shoot length, root length, and seedling dry weight. All seedling characteristics decreased with decrease in osmotic potential. Shoot length and root length decreased more than the seedling characteristics. Germination was completely inhibited in -0.1 Mpa. Priming with NaCl and $CaCl_2$ (-0.1 MPa) for four days had significant effects ($P$ < 0.01) on the germination percentages. Priming improved the seedling characteristics in all samples, especially in -0.05 Mpa, but a decrease with decrease in osmotic potential.

  • Macrolepiota procera, one of edible mushrooms belongs to Agaricaceae of Basidiomycota, has a good taste and good medicinal value. As a preliminary study for the development of artificial cultivation method of edible mushroom, cultural characteristics of M. procera was investigated on various culture media under different environmental conditions. Mycelial growth was compared on culture media composed of various carbon and nitrogen sources, and C/N ratios. The optimal conditions for the mycelial growth were $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 7. M. procera showed the rapid mycelial growth in the PDA media. The optimal carbon and nitrogen sources were maltose and glycine, respectively. The optimum C/N ratio was about 10 : 1 in case that 1% glucose was supplemented to the basal media as carbon source.

  • Statement of problem: Use of all-ceramic prostheses fabricated with CAD/CAM systems is increasing in the dentistry. Marginal fidelity in production of all-ceramic restoration has important clinical implications and is a key consideration issue in CAD/CAM production as well. Purpose: The objective of this study was to analyse marginal fidelities of $Procera^{(R)}$ Allceram Crown. Material and methods: On 56 patients treated with $Procera^{(R)}$ system Allceram Crown at Dankook Dental Hospital, marginal discrepancies of 101 abutments were measured by stereomicroscope at coping and final restoration stages. Paired t-test and one-way analysis of variance on marginal discrepancy data were conducted to determine the presence of significant differences between measurement and measuring point stages. Results: Marginal discrepancies of final restoration ($45.82{\pm}30.84\;{\mu}m$) were lower than alumina coping ($53.84{\pm}38.83\;{\mu}m$). Furthermore, the differences were found to be statistically significant at 95% confidence level. Anterior marginal discrepancies were lower than posterior marginal discrepancies, but they were not statistically significant. Lingual marginal discrepancies were higher than other measurement sites, and the differences were found to be statistically significant at 95% confidence level. Conclusion: Within the conditions of this study, marginal fidelities of $Procera^{(R)}$ Allceram Crown were acceptable, and after porcelain build-up, marginal fitness improved over alumina coping. More careful scanning is needed for better results.
