  • As an exploratory inquiry prior to developing a measure to assess Korean families with adolescents' family resilience, this study examined the construct validity of the family resilience measures that were developed in the U. S. Iowa Youth and Families Project(Conger & Elder, 1994): emotional support between spouses, problem solving style between spouses, and parenting behavior. The participants were 277 pairs of middle aged, middle class husbands and wives (554 individuals) who were the parents of first graders in middle schools in the metropolitan areas around Seoul. The results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis supported the construct validity, indicating that emotional support, problem solving style, and parenting behavior may be used as measures to assess Korean family resilience. However, further tests of convergent validity using various assessment methods and analytical procedures are needed to ensure the construct validity of family resilience measures.

  • The objective of this research is to investigate the potential of relational matching in one of the fundamental photogrammetric processes, that is initial approximation problem. The automatic relative orientation procedures of aerial stereopairs have been investigated. The fact that the existing methods suffer from approximations, distortions (geometric and radiometric), occlusions, and breaklines is the motivation to investigate relational matching which appears to be a much more general solution. An elegant way of solving the initial approximation problem by using distinct(special) relationship from relational description is suggested and experimented. As for evaluation function, the cost function was implemented. The detection of erroneous matching is incorporated as a part of proposed relational matching scheme. Experiments with real urban area images where large numbers of repetitive patterns, breaklines, and occluded areas are present prove the feasibility of implementation of the proposed relational matching scheme. The investigation of relational matching in the domain of image matching problem provides advantages and disadvantages over the existing image matching methods and shows the future area of development and implementation of relational matching in the field of digital photogrammetry.

  • Six Sigma was introduced into Korea in 1997, and it is regarded as a fascinating management strategy in many Korean companies. First of all, the reasons why Six Sigma is fascinating are given and a smart way to introduce Six Sigma is illustrated. Seven step procedures to introduce Six Sigma are explained. Next, the differences of problem-solving processes for project team activities for R&D, manufacturing, and service areas are compared. Third, a typical process for R&D Six Sigma is proposed, and major activities and scientific methods at each process step are suggested. Fourth, some differences between Six Sigma project team and quality circle team are presented. Finally, a Six Sigma model for e-business is proposed and briefly explained.

  • Computer aided process planning(CAPP) is a key for implementing CIM. It is bridge between CAD and CAM and translates the design information into manufacturing instructions. Generally, manufacturing is an area where intelligent systems will not be able to rely on methods requiring formalized knowledge. Manufacturing lacks a body of knowledge that is specific, formalized, and rigorous, and which can be coded as rules or procedures. Thus expertise in manufacturing is developed over a period of many years. Case-based reasoning(CBR) offers a new approach for developing intelligent system. In the case-based approach the problem solving experience of the experts is encoded in the form of cases. CBR's retrieval process can be divided to two step. The first step is matching step, and the second step is selection step. For selecting base case, new preference heuristics were introduced using similarity concept. Similarity concept has three has three dimensions, i.e. entity similarity, structural similarity, and goal similarity. In this paper, bolt's process planning was selected an application domain. Following the test result, the new preference heuristics were approved as a useful procedure in CAPP.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop evaluation methods in order to apply effective problem-based learning (PBL). To observe the effectiveness of a PBL system on learners and to comprehend the learning process of a PBL application, analysis of reflective journals and an evaluation questionnaire completed by participants (n=68) were used. The participants of the study were recruited from Hankyong National University students who undertook first-year Creative Engineering Design. A total of four problems for the PBL-based lectures were designed and applied to 12 weeks of PBL lectures. The participants completed reflective journals upon completion of each PBL problem-based activity; upon completion of the last PBL problem, participants completed and submitted a PBL system class-evaluation questionnaire. Also the participants completed an evaluation questionnaire at each step of the instructional procedures for each PBL problem-based activity. The findings of the research show that the participants increased their comprehension of PBL systems, their understanding of lecture content and of cooperative learning, and improved their self-reflection, authentic experience, creative problem-solving skills, communication skills, documentation skills, presentation skills, observational skills, and evaluation skills. The participants described how learning through PBL increased their confidence, satisfaction, and sense of achievement, compared to the previous semester.

  • In order to meet the requirement for higher thickness accuracy in cold rolling processes, it is strongly desired to have high performance in control units. To meet this requirement, we have considered an output regulating control system with a roll-eccentricity estimator for each rolling stand of tandem cold mills. Considering entry thickness variation as well as roll eccentricity as the major disturbances, a synthesis of multivariable control systems is presented based on H$\sub$$\infty$/ control theory, which can reflect the knowledge of input direction and spectrum of disturbance signals on the design. Then, to reject roll eccentricity effectively, a weight function having some poles on the imaginary axis is introduced. This leads to a non-standard H_ control problem, and the design procedures for solving this problem are analytically presented. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is evaluated through computer simulations and compared to that of the conventional LQ control and feedforward control methods for roll eccentricity.

  • There are many activities that open source software may using at several areas from the government and international organization such as the UN. And Korea enforces the open source software demonstration activities with different meaning link. It is an evaluation field whether or not using the open source software in information projects. But the public information and the education against the open source software are insufficient in the secondary school students who are be latent open source software users. In this paper, We present an examination and analysis of the open source software recognition of the secondary school students in Korea. And We suggest education methods that can use the open source software in the information subject of the revised 7th national education curriculum.

  • In this paper , we study the problem of designing TS(Takagi-Sugeno) fuzzy controllers for the systems that can be approximated or represented by the TS fuzzy model. The main strategy used in this paper is the inverse optimal approach, in which the cost function is determined later than the Lyapunov function and its corresponding control input satisfying the design requirements such as stability, decay rate, and robustness against uncertainty. This approach is useful because it yields controllers satisfying the inherent robustness of optimal controllers as well as the considered design goals. The design procedures established in this paper are all in the from of solving LMIs(Iinear matrix inequalities). Since the LMIs arising in the design procedures can be solved within a given tolerance by the interior point methods. the design method of the paper are efficient in practice. The applicability of the proposed design procedures is demonstrated by design examples.

  • The data model that can be said as skeleton of the information system constitutes important 2 axles in the information system together with the process model. There is entity, properties, relation as key factors of the data model, and entity is the most fundamental factor in the data model, and thus total data model becomes vague if not deriving entity definitely. This study dealt with entity deduction only. Deducing methods of existing entity depended on experiences, task knowledge of designers and clear procedures were not suggested, so there were many difficulties in approaching them from beginners or unskilled persons. For giving helps in solving the problem, this study proposes entity- deducing procedures based on tasks that can derive entity with a systematic process at previously derived target businesses through suggested methods from advancing researches. And the study enabled proposing procedures on imaginary tasks to be applied, objecting to undergraduates who had not experiences on the data modeling, and then verified suggesting process through a similarity checking between best answers with deduced entity by students after taking impossible points of comparing existing methods with suggesting process into consideration. By doing so, deducing entity closely to the best answer was confirmed accordingly. Therefore, a fact could be confirmed that beginners were able to deduce entity closely to the best answer even if letting beginners who had not experiences on the data modeling be applied to unfamiliar tasks. Regarding researches on properties and relation deduction besides entity, this study leaves them to next time.
