Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of occupational stress and coping styles on burnout of clinical nurses. Methods: The participants in this study were 397 nurses, working at the hospitals in Seoul, Gangwon, and Gyongbuk provinces. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from November, 2009 to January, 2010. The SPSS WIN 13.0 version program was used for data analysis. Results: The most significant predictors of burnout were positive reappraisal and work load. Work load, resource inadequacy, role ambiguity, and indifference coping style positively correlated with burnout. Positive reappraisal and problem-focused coping styles negatively correlated with burnout. Conclusion: The study results indicate that it is important to reduce work load, resource inadequacy, and role ambiguity in nurses and to strengthen their positive reappraisal and problem-focused coping styles to prevent burnout. This could be achieved with job redesign, modification of shift work systems, and by offering burnout prevention program.
This study examined whether specific coping strategies for the university entrance examination stress are related to high school seniors' depression and whether these strategies moderate the relationship between additional life event stress and depression. A sample of 358 high school seniors reported their level of additional life event stress, coping strategies they were using to handle examination stress, and their levels of depression. Problem-focused coping strategies and affective-regulation coping strategies were found to be related to reduction in depression. And, coping with examination stress was found to be related to depression independent of the level of additional life event stress.
The purpose of this study was to discuss the difference of stress by the grade, examine the relationship between characteristics and main stress, and to investigate the effect of the National Examination of Registered Nurses on stress by using the stress self-rating scale targeting university nursing students (n=314), The stress self-rating scale consists of three subscales: stress responses, stressors and coping parts, such as perceived social support and a sense of humor. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and regression analysis. The results showed that passing the National Examination of Registered Nurses was the first problem among the stressors. Stressors of the living factors and nursing factors, and subjective stressors of the surveyed nursing students were the highest among the senior students, but stressors of nursing factors increased according to the grade of the nursing students. Perceived stress responses were high in psychological responses of other aspects, and perceived stress responses increased according to the grade (p<.001). Senior students had a high weight of perceived stress responses (problem-focused, emotion-focused). and active and negative coping modes. Significant factors that explained the stressors were coping mode(r=.62-82. p<.01) and cognition(r=.19. p<.01). including the social support. These findings suggest that social support was very important for seniors. and that we have to develop approaches to decrease stress according to the student grade for nursing education process.

Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by the students of dental hygiene department in Daegu from April to May, 2013. Descriptive statistics and frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA and correlation analysis were analyzed using SAS (version 9.2) for statistics. Results : The overall stress coping score was 2.54. Problem-focused coping was 2.50, and social support-seeking coping was 2.60 in active coping. Emotional coping was 2.29, and hopeful thinking coping was 2.76 in passive coping. The level of self-efficacy according to general characteristics varied significantly depending on grade, satisfaction with major, subjective health status and smoking status. The stress coping methods according to general characteristics varied significantly depending on academic achievement and satisfaction with major. The results showed that the level of self-efficacy was associated with stress-coping methods. Conclusions : Self-efficacy of students of dental hygiene department was associated with stress coping methods. It is necessary to develop the programs for stress coping to increase self-efficacy.

The data were analyzed by Mean score, Percentage, Pearson product moment correlation coefficient T-test, ANOVA test, and Cronbach's reliability test. The results were as follows. (1) The reliability of coping scale was 0.751 by Cronbach's reliability test. (2) Average coping score of those patients was 2,53 (maximum score:4) and they used equally problem focused coping and emotion focused coping. This study examined the effects of social comparison orientation and stress coping styles on job-seeking stress experienced by university students. The participants of this study were 324 junior and senior students (151 males and 173 females) from six universities located in Seoul who were preparing for employment. They were asked to respond to a written questionnaire to measure research variables for the Job-Seeking Stress Scale, the Social Comparison Orientation Scale, and the Ways of Coping Checklist. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and a hierarchical multiple regression. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, social comparison orientation had a positive effect on job-seeking stress of university students, revealing that students with a high level of social comparison orientation were more likely to experience job-seeking stress. Second, both emotion-alleviation coping style and wishful thinking coping style increased level of job-seeking stress. In addition, problem-focused coping style had a negative influence on job-seeking stress, whereas social support seeking coping style had no significant effect on it. The results suggested that it would be possible to reduce job-seeking stress of university students by changing either social comparison or stress coping style.

The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, ANOVA, the Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression with SPSS version 22.0. Results: The coping strategy that nurses most often used was seeking social support. The factors affecting the well-being of the participants were wishful thinking, problem-focused coping and seeking social support, in order. Those 3 variables explained 21 % of the total variance in psychological well-being. Problem-focused coping and seeking social support were positively associated with psychological well-being, while wishful thinking showed a negative association.
