  • Nutritional anemias are an important nutritional problem affecting large population groups in most developing countries. Many reports on investigations of nutritional anemias have been published and there is good evidence that prevalence of iron deficiency anemias in vulnerable groups is high in many areas of the world. However, there is a general lack of accurate data on its prevalence throughout the world. Methods used to measure different factors have been variable and often of poor quality. Furthermore recent comparison of values obtained in different laboratories have shown a much greater discrepancy in iron binding capacity measurements as compared with serum iron determinations. Since the major cause of these differences appears related to the technique employed, the efforts of the central laboratory will be directed initially to standardization of methodology. My laboratory has been joined interlaboratory comparison of WHO studies of iron standardization. The determination of serum iron, iron-binding capacity and transferrin saturation was done on healthy adults, 79 males and 20 females, who visited hospital for health certificate from January to July 1970. The serum iron was determined by the method of modification of Bothwell and Mallett and total iron blinding capacity by Ramsay method and Bothwell and Mallett method. The results of this study are as follows; 1) The serum iron concentration of seventy nine adult male by the method presented is $131.5{\pm}37.3{\mu}g/100ml\;(range\;52.5{\sim}225.0{\mu}g/100ml)$ and of twenty female adult is $108.5{\pm}40.2{\mu}g/100ml\;(range\;45.0{\sim}202.5{\mu}g/100ml)$. 2) The adult male level of serum iron-binding capacity is $330.9{\pm}48.9{\mu}g/100ml\;and\;adult\;female\;is\;291.2{\pm}55.2{\mu}g/100ml$. 3) The transferring saturation of healthy male is $35.6{\pm}12.8%\;(range\;15.1{\sim}18.0%)\;and\;of\;female\;as\;25.4{\pm}12.4%\;(range\;10.1{\sim}60.0)$.

  • Clustering is one of the most well-known unsupervised learning methods that clusters data into homogeneous groups. Clustering has been used in various applications and FCM is one of the representative methods. In Fuzzy C-Means(FCM), however, cluster centers tend leaning to high density areas because the Euclidean distance measure forces high density clusters to make more contribution to clustering result. Previously proposed was density-independent clustering method, where cluster centers were made not to be close each other and relived the center deviation problem. Density-independent clustering method has a limitation that it is difficult to specify the position of the cluster centers. In this paper, an enhanced density-independent clustering method with an additional term that makes cluster centers to be placed around dense region is proposed. The proposed method converges more to real centers compared to FCM and density-independent clustering, which can be verified with experimental results.

  • The INMARSAT is able to long range maritime communications that can not use for expensive charge in non-SOLAS ship. Therefore, international discussion for the question that replacements use of MF/HF band for maritime distress and safety communications in maritime. HF data communications system may be effectively utilized for SOLAS ships as well as for the existing non-SOLAS vessels including the fishing boats, which navigate A2 and A3 sea areas. The HF data communications may have various functions such as e-mail services, broadcasting services of up-to-date information related to marine safety, position reporting services, polling services etc. However, the present HF e-mail communications protocols have a problem of increasing calling redundancy as the number of channels in operation increases. This paper new protocol and communication sequence proposed in this submission establishes a proper radio link automatically and adaptively by taking channel traffic into account.

  • The grouting method, which can be used to effectively improve small areas within a short amount of time, may have different injection effects depending on the ground conditions and the levels of a water table. In particular, for ground with a relatively large permeability, the strength of the ground and the water proof ability can decrease over time due to the leaching process. To solve this problem, a "self-healing smart grouting (SSG) method", which was designed to maintain the initial strength of the ground by minimizing the leaching process, was developed recently. In this study, uniaxial compression tests were carried out on SSG samples to understand the strength of SSG over curing time where two different curing temperatures have been applied for comparison. The uniaxial compression strength of SSG was further compared with the samples prepared using conventional methods (LW and SGR). The test results showed that the uniaxial compression strength of SSG was higher at both high and low curing temperatures compared to that of the samples prepared using conventional methods. The initial strength of SSG was also relatively higher.

  • Various types of multimedia contents have been widely spread and distributed with the Internet that is easy to use. Meanwhile, Multimedia contents can bright a social problem because juveniles can access such harmful contents easily through the Internet. This paper proposes a method to determine if an input image is harmful or not, using an neural network. The proposed method first detects a face region from an input image through MCT features. The method then extracts skin color regions using color features and obtains candidate nipple areas from the extracted skin regions. Subsequently, we determine if the input image is harmful, by filtering out non-nipple regions using the artificial neural network. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively determine the harmfulness of input images.

  • The Integration of multi-agent architecture and blackboard architecture may lead to a new architecture to cope with new application areas which need some good and strong points of both the architectures. This paper suggests an integrated architecture of blackboard architecture and multi-agent architecture by using event-based implicit invocation pattern and a blackboard event detection mechanism based on Rete network. From the viewpoints of weak couplings of system components and flexible control of knowledge source agents, it is desirable to use the event-based implicit invocation pattern in the integrated architecture. But the pattern itself does not concern the performance of the architecture, and it is very critical to the performance of the integrated architecture to detect efficiently the blackboard events which can activate knowledge source agents which can contribute to the problem-solving processes of the integrated architecture. The integrated architecture suggested in this paper uses a blackboard event detection mechanism based on Rete network to detect efficiently blackboard events which can activate knowledge source agents.

  • Internet of Things (IoT), one of the emerging research areas, is the computing paradigm where various things connect to the network and cooperate with their neighbors to reach common goals. Computing with IoT devices opens up a new array of opportunities for providing value-added smart services and applications to end users. That is, IoT devices play an important role of providing useful services to the users. However, the states of IoT devices are dynamically changed at runtime, which come from their mobility, network connectivity, and a battery drain problem. This dynamism results in difficulties in managing these IoT devices. In this paper, we propose a framework to manage those IoT devices with dynamism. Hence, we first derive issues from IoT devices' dynamism. And, we define a set of requirements to manage the IoT devices and present a framework to manage the device dynamism. The framework is equipped by a device discovery method, a device status monitoring method, a device selection and connection method, and a device replacement method. Finally, we verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the framework through experiments.

  • To reduce the traffic congestion and parking problems in urban areas tall and narrow vehicles have interested as a means to increase the utilization of existing freeways and parking facilities. The stability problem for those narrow vehicles which might be caused can be reduced by tilting the body toward the inside of the turn. The Direct Tilt Control(DTC) system and the Steering Tilt Control(STC) system have been proposed for those narrow vehicles. In this paper, as one of the performance improvement for that kind of vehicle a new control system to use the merits of both the DTC system and the STC system is proposed. Because two different control systems fight each other, the switching control scheme is applied as a means to prevent fighting. Also, the method in order to achieve the smoothly changed control system when the system is switched from the DTC to the STC or from the STC to the DTC, the appropriate type of control gain is designed.

  • Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generation from remotely sensed imagery is crucial for a variety of mapping applications such as ortho-photo generation, city modeling. High resolution imaging satellites such as SPOT-5, IKONOS, QUICK-BIRD, ORBVIEW constitute an excellent source for efficient and economic generation of DEM data. However, prerequisite knowledge in the areas of sensor modeling, epipolar resampling, and image matching is required to generate DEM from these high resolution satellite imagery. From the above requirements, epipolar resampling emerges as the most important factors. Research attempts in this area are still in high demand and short supply. Another cause that adds to the complication of the problem is that most studies of DEM generation from IKONOS scenes have been based on rational function model. In this paper, we proposed a new methodology for DEM generation from satellite scenes using parallel projection model which is sensor independent, makes it possible for sensor modeling and epipolar resampling by only few control points. The performance and feasibility of the developed methodology is evaluated through real dataset captured by IKONOS.

  • In this paper, a virtual force is generated and fed back to the operator to make the teleoperation more reliable, which reflects the relationship between a slave robot and an uncertain remote environment as a form of an impedance. In general, for the teleoperation, the teleoperated mobile robot takes pictures of the remote environment and sends the visual information back to the operator over the Internet. Because of the limitations of communication bandwidth and narrow view-angles of camera, it is not possible to watch certain regions, for examples, the shadow and curved areas. To overcome this problem, a virtual force is generated according to both the distance between the obstacle and the robot and the approaching velocity of the obstacle w.r.t the collision vector based on the ultrasonic sensor data. This virtual force is transferred back to the master (two degrees of freedom joystick) over the Internet to enable a human operator to estimate the position of obstacle at the remote site. By holding this master, in spite of limited visual information, the operator can feel the spatial sense against the remote environment. It is demonstrated by experiments that this collision vector based haptic reflection improves the performance of teleoperated mobile robot significantly.
