  • In this study, the surface modification of copper foil using an inductively coupled $O_2$ / Ar plasma as $O_2$ gas fraction (0~100%) was investigated in order to improve the surface characteristics. After plasma treatment, the measurement of the surface roughness, surface contact angle and surface energy were performed for the surface analysis of copper foil. As a result, the surface roughness and the surface energy were increased. And plasma diagnostics was performed by a double Langmuir probe (DLP) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES). Using these results, the plasma surface modification mechanism was investigated.

  • The objective of the present study is to investigate experimentally the mean flow characteristics of the three-dimensional turbulent boundary layer over a rotating disk with an impinging jet at the center of the disk, which may be regarded as one of the simplest models for the flow in turbomachinery. A relatively strong radial outflow (crossflow) generated from the impinging jet is added to the radial outflow (crossflow) induced by the centrifugal force in order to create the three-dimensional boundary layer. A new calibration technique has been introduced to determine the velocity direction and magnitude using an I-wire probe, where the uncertainties are ${\pm}1.5^{\circ}$ and ${\pm}0.35\;m/s$, respectively, in the laminar boundary layer region, compared with the known exact solutions. The flow in the tangential direction is of similar type to that associated with a favorable pressure gradient, considering that no wake region appears in wall coordinate velocity profiles and the Clauser shape factor is between 4.0 and 5.3. The flow angle is significantly changed by the crossflow generated by the impinging jet.

  • Vertically aligned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (NRs) with different surface morphology were grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on sapphire substrate. The films thus prepared were characterized by measuring X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies. To study the effect of surface morphology on wettability, the contact angle (CA) of water was measured. It was demonstrated that the CA of the deposited ZnO NRs varied between $104^{\circ}$ and $135^{\circ}$ depending upon the surface morphology. Variable temperature photoluminescence (PL) have employed to probe the exciton recombination in high density and vertically aligned ZnO Nanorod arrays. The low-temperature PL characterizes the dominant near-band-edge excitonic emissions from such nanorod arrays.

  • Warp phenomenon seems to be ubiquitous among spiral galaxies, and a a number of mechanisms have been suggested as the origin including cosmic infall and tidal interactions. In this work, we compare warp characteristics of cluster spirals and the ones in the field in order to investigate the influence of environment on warping, in particular of gas disks. We make use of a tilted-ring modeling (TRM) method to VLA HI (21cm) data cubes of carefully selected 20 spiral galaxies in the Virgo cluster. The TRM allows us to probe kinematics, e.g., inclination, position angle, and velocity dispersion of HI disks. We compare the properties of each tilted-ring component to mean properties based on optical images. In this contribution, we present preliminary yet important findings on the warp characteristics of spiral galaxies in dense environment, and discuss possible origins of those kinematical structures.

  • In this study, a three-dimensional transient simulation with a knock model was performed to predict knock occurrence and autoignition site in a heavy-duty LPG engine. A FAE (Flame Area Evolutoin) premixed combustion model was applied to simulate flame propagation. The coefficient of the reduced kinetic model was adjusted to LPG fuel and used to simulate autoignition in the unburned gas region. Engine experiments using a single-cylinder research engine were performed to calibrate the reduced kinetic model and to verify the results of the modeling. A pressure transducer and a head-gasket type ion-probe circuit board were installed in order to detect knock occurrences, flame arrival angles, and autoignition sites. Knock occurrence and position were compared for different piston bowl shapes. The simulation concurred with engine experimental data regarding the cylinder pressure, flame arrival angle, knock occurrence, and autoignition site. Furthermore, it provided much information about in-cylinder phenomena and solutions that might help reducing the knocking tendency. The knock simulation model presented in this paper can be used for a development tool of engine design.

  • The importance of soundness and safety evaluation in weld zone using by the ultrasonic wave has been recently increased rapidly because of the collapses of huge structures and safety accidents. Especially, the ultrasonic method that has been often used for a major non-destructive testing(NDT) technique in many engineering fields plays an important role as a volume test method. Hence, the defecting any defects of weld Bone in austenitic stainless steel type 304 using by ultrasonic wave and neural network is explored in this paper. In order to detect defects, a distance amplitude curve on standard scan sensitivity and preliminary scan sensitivity represented of the relation between ultrasonic probe, instrument, and materials was drawn based on a quantitative standard. Also, a total of 93% of defect types by testing 30 defect patterns after organizing neural network system, which is learned with an accuracy of 99%, based on ultrasonic evaluation is distinguished in order to classify defects such as holes or notches in experimental results. Thus, the proposed ultrasonic wave and neural network is useful for defect detection and Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Evaluation(UNDE) of weld zone in austenitic stainless steel 304.

  • Micelle formation and adsorption at the $Ti0_{2}$ interface of a series of polystyrene-polythylene oxide(PS-PEO) block copolymer in aqueous solution was studied using fluorescence probing and small-angle X-ray methods. Further, the stability of aqueous $Ti0_{2}$ dispersion in the presence of copolymer was investigated by microelectrophoresis, optical density and sedimentation measurements. The dissolution of pyrene as fluorescent probe in aqueous surfactant solution leads to a slow decrease of the $I_{1}/I_{3}$ ratio, as the copolymer concentration increase; $I_{1}$ and $I_{3}$ are respectively the intensities of the first and third vibrionic peaks in the pyrene fluorescence emission. The behaviour was due to the characteristics of the copolymers and/or to the copolymer association efficiency in water. Moreover, the adsorption at the plateau level increases with decreasing PEO until chain length. The zeta potential of $TiO_{2}$ particles decreases with increasing copolymer concentration and reaches a plateau value. Finally, stabilization using block copolymers was more effective with samples having higher weight fractions of PS block.

  • Self-organized ruthenium (Ru) dots were fabricated by $400^{\circ}C$ RTA (rapid thermal annealing) and ALD (atomic layer deposition). The dots were produced under the $400^{\circ}C$ RTA conditions for 10, 30 and 60 seconds on all Si(100)/200 nm-SiO2, glass, and glass/fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates. Electrical sheet resistance, and surface microstructure were examined using a 4-point probe and FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy). Ru dots were observed when a 30 nm-Ru layer on a Si(100)/200 nm-SiO2 substrate was annealed for 10, 30 and 60 seconds, whereas the dots were only observed on a glass substrate when a 50 nm-Ru layer was annealed on glass. For a glass/FTO substrate, RTA <30 seconds was needed for 30 nm Ru thick films. Those dots can increase the effective surface area for silicon and glass substrates by up to 5-44%, and by 300% for the FTO substrate with a < $20^{\circ}$ wetting angle.

  • In this study, in order to investigate how consecutive treatments of glass surface with HF acid and water vapor/Ar plasma affect the quality of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane self-assembled monolayer (APS-SAM), poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) thin films were vapor phase-polymerized immediately after spin coating of FeCl3 and poly-urethane diol-mixed oxidant solution on the monolayer surfaces prepared at various treatment conditions. For the film characterization, various poweful tools were used, e.g., FE-SEM, an optical microscope, four point probe, and a contact angle analyzer. The characterization revealed that a well prepared APS-SAM on a glass surface treated with water vapor/Ar plasma is very useful for uniform coating of FeCl3 and DUDO mixed oxidant solution, regardless of HF treatment. On the other hand, a bare glass surface without APS-SAM but treated with HF and water vapor/Ar plasma generally led to a very poor oxidant film. As a result, PEDOT films vapor phase-polymerized on APS-SAM surfaces are far superior to those on bare glass surfaces in the quality and electrical characteristics aspects.

  • Recently, friction stir welding of dissimilar materials are one of the biggest issues in terms of light-weight and eco-friendly technology of the automotive, aircraft and ship industry. In this study, friction stir welding of dissimilar materials is introduced with different tool rotational speed. Materials used in experimentation consist of A357 gravity cast aluminum alloy and FB590 high-strength steel plates. Dissimilar materials of plate type are fabricated with width of 150mm, length of 300mm and thickness of 3mm and welding is carried out by the lap joint method. The correlation between probe length and mechanical properties were investigated according to rotational speed and welding speed at tool tilt angle 0 degree. Consequently, feasibility of FSWed dissimilar materials were successfully presented in case of cast aluminum and high-strength steel at lap joint method.
