  • The performance of Precision Guided Missiles is estimated by using hit probability only, which is calculated by hits against total amounts of fires in current domestic live-fire tests. It has a limitation in judging the performance of all produced Precision Guided Missiles by using the calculated hit probability according to the result of live-fire test, because the overall characteristics of the produced Precision Guided Missiles are not considered. In other words, a method is needed to estimate the confidence level which is more reliable than simply calculated hit probability according to the result of live-fire test for guaranteeing the hit probability of Precision Guided Missiles by certain level, which is already being operated or produced. This paper introduces a method to estimate the confidence level of Precision Guided Missiles by minimum live-fire tests using Hypergeometric distribution and Bayes' rule suitable for the characteristics of Precision Guided Missiles, which are small production, high costs and unable to check whether the missile hits the target or not before the live-fire tests. Also, this paper suggests a reasonable confidence level for showing the performance of the Precision Guided Missiles using the results of live-fire tests and domestic and foreign literature, when the result of live-fire tests will be decided.

  • In this paper, we would like to test whether the hit at a particular bat has a dependency with the hitting results at the previous bats in professional baseball games. For this purpose, we used the 2011 Korean Baseball League data. We find out that the hitting percentage at a particular bat has no dependency with the hit at the previous bat, after reviewing the conditional probability of hit at each bat and the lift. From the independence test of hits at consecutive bats, and hit at a particular bat with no hits at previous bats, we can conclude that hits at particular bats are not dependent on the hits at previous bats in most cases. Hence, we can safely conclude that a hit at a particular bat is statistically independent from the hits at the previous bats.

  • Recently, the development of reliability analysis system for combat system is required, because, necessities of integrated reliability analysis research are emphasized. In this paper, we develop a system which analyzes vulnerabilities for tank(or armored vehicle) based on the fault tree analysis(FTA) technique. The FTA is representative technique of reliability analysis to find cause of fault and calculate probability of fault. To do this, we propose a method to apply FTA technique into domain of vulnerability analysis for tank. Also, we develop the vulnerability analysis system using the proposed method. The system analyzes hit probabilities of components of tank based on multiple shot-lines, and calculates kill probabilities. The analyzed and calculated data support vulnerability analysis of tank.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient disk buffer replacement policy which improves hit ratio and reduces writing operations of flash based storages. The flash based storage has many advantages, including a small form factor, non-volatility and high reliability, but there are problems caused by own limitations, like not-in-place update, short life cycle and asymmetric I/O latencies. To redeem these problems, this paper proposes the write weighted probability of reference(2WPR) policy. 2WPR policy predicts re-referencing probability and calculates localities of each page. Furthermore, by weighting write operations to every pages, 2WPR can reduce write operations to flash based storage. In addition, we can improve the performance with higher hit ratio and reduce the number of write operations and consequently shorten the latencies of each operation. The results show that our policy provides improvements of up to 10% for the hit ratio with the reduction of up to 5% for the flash writing operation compared with other policies.

  • This paper aims to analyse the performance of coded frequency hopping /spread spectrum mul~ tiple access system by employing the channel with mixture of A WGN, partial band jamming, fading and user interference. In this approach, a special consideration is focused on the effect of the partial hit. That is, the interfering signals that are present for a small fraction of the hop dur~ ation did not cause hit. The results of analysis showed that the frequency hit changed linearly according to the varying degree of frequency overlap. And this effect did not change the type of error probability distri~ bution.

  • Low doses of ionizing radiation from external or internal sources cause heterogeneous distribution of energy deposition events in the exposed biological system. With the cell being the individual element of the tissue system, the fraction of cells hit, the dose received by the hit, and the biological response of the cell to the dose received eventually determine the effect in tissue. The hit cell may experience detriment, such as change in its DNA leading to a malignant transformation, or it may derive benefit in terms of an adaptive response such as a temporary improvement of DNA repair or temporary prevention of effects from intracellular radicals through enhanced radical detoxification. These responses are protective also to toxic substances that are generated during normal metabolism. Within a multicellular system, the probability of detriment must be weighed against the probability of benefit through adaptive responses with protection against various toxic agents including those produced by normal metabolism. Because irradiation can principally induce both, detriment and adaptive responses, one type of affected cells may not be simply summed up at the expense of cells with other types of effects, in assessing risk to tissue. An inventory of various types of effects in the blood forming system of mammals, even with large ranges of uncertainty, uncovers the possibility of benefit to the system from exposure to low doses of low LET radiation. This experimental approach may complement epidemiological data on individuals exposed to low doses of ionizing radiation and may lead to a more rational appraisal of risk.

  • To use the OneSAF model for the analysis of Defence M&S, the most critical factor is the acquisition of input data. The model user is hard to determine the input data such as the probability of hit(Ph) and the probability of kill(Pk). These data can be obtained directly by live fire during the development test and the operational test. Therefore, this needs more time and resources to get the Ph and Pk. In this paper, we reviewed possible ways to obtain the Ph and Pk. We introduced several data producing methodologies. In particular, the error budget method was presented to convert the Ph(%) data of AWAM model to the error(mil) data of OneSAF model. Also, the conversion method which can get the adjusted results from the JMEM is introduced. The probability of a hit was calculated based on the error budget method in order to prove the usefulness of the given method. More accurate data were obtained when the error budget method and the projected area from the published photo were used simultaneously. The importance of the Ph calculation was demonstrated by sensitivity analysis of the Ph on combat effectiveness. This paper emphasizes the importance of determining the Ph data and improving the reliability of the M&S system though steady collection and analysis of the Ph data.

  • The combat system has a different purpose depending on its mission. All functions of combat system are important, but, the components that related main functions for the purpose, are important than other components. Also, the hit probability of component is proportional to area of the component. Therefore, when we analyze vulnerability of combat system, to consider the importance and hit probability of component. Thus to improve reliability of combat system, we apply the analyzed result to design combat system. In this paper, we develop a vulnerability analysis program based on criticality which calculated from importance and hit probability of components by related researches. To do this, we propose a methodology to apply criticality of components, and define classification rates for calculating criticality based on FMECA. Additionally, we propose a technique of vulnerability analysis using criticality of components, and apply the proposed technique to develop and test the vulnerability analysis program for automation of analysis.

  • This paper describes the mean time delay and its variance before transition from search to lock mode by means of signal flow graph and its transfer function. A relation between hit probability and search stage number is presented with the comparison of the open loop and closed loop. From these results optimum transition probability which we must hold can be obtained.

  • The error performance of M-ary differential phase shift keying (MDPSK) through m-distribution fading channel in hybrid direct sequence/slow frequency hopped spread spectrum multiple access (DS/SFH-SSMA) systems has been evaluated, and also the error probability has been evaluate when adopting diversity technique and coding technique. From the results, we know that the error performance more deteriorates as depth of fading becomes deeper. In Rayleigh fading environment (m=1), increasing of the number of frequency hopping (q) reduces the effect of multiple access interference, because it decreases the probability a hit. When q is much larger than the number of user (K), the probability of error in high E/N region is dominated by the multipath interference while the multiple access interference is negligible. In lower E/N region, the probability of error is independent of q because the effect of gaussian noise becomes dominat.
