  • A low-dispersion fiber feed Littrow-mounted grating spectrometer for education was designed and fabricated. The dispersion element is a reflective type blazed grating Edmundoptics NT 46-075 (spatial frequency 600 lines/mm, dimension $30mm{\times}30mm$, blazed angle 8.6 degree). The optical fiber coupler module for optical guiding from telescope to spectrometer is composed of a multi-mode FC connector - FC connector optical fiber patch cord (core/cladding diameter $50{\mu}m/125{\mu}m$) and two 1.25" throw-tube couplers. The lens for collimating and imaging is a general purpose focal length 50 mm camera lens (f/1.8). The device for optical path control is a rectangular prism (size $25mm{\times}25mm$). The imaging camera sensor is a Meade DSI Pro 2 CCD sensor (black and white, $752{\times}582$ pixels and pixel size $8.3{\mu}m{\times}8.6{\mu}m$). Softwares for data logging and analysis consist of Meade Autostar Suite, NIH imagej and Vernier Logger Pro 3. The wavelength coverage range of the spectrometer is 205 nm at central wavelength 550 nm. The wavelength resolution is 1.7 nm.

High power tunable Ti:sapphire laser with sub-40fs pulsewidth (40펨토초 미만 펄스폭의 고출력 파장가변 티타늄사파이어 레이저)

  • We have utilized soft-aperturing by gain media to develop a high-power tunable Ti:Sapphire laser with sub-40-fs and broad tuning range. The tunable spectral range was only limited by the bandwidth of mirrors. We made use of knife-edge slits near an intra-cavity prism controlled by micro-stepping-motors to tune the center wavelength continuously. The tunability of the center wavelength was ranged from 770 nm to 870 nm, and the measured pulsewidth was sub-40 fs throughout the above spectral range. The shortest pulsewidth was about 17 fs at the center wavelength of 820 nm and the spectral bandwidth was 72 nm. At 5 W pumping power of the Ar-ion laser we obtained average output power of 440 mW~580 mW. For the cw and Kerr-lens mode-lodking conditions, we have evaluated the value of an amplitude modulation to be ${\gamma}=2.5{\times}10^{-8}/W$ from the calculated waists of a Gaussian beam on the Ti:sapphire crystal surface. Using this result we demonstrate that the generation of sub-40-fs Kerr-lens mode-locked pulse can be described by the Ginzberg-Landau model which is a weak pulse shaping model.

A Study on the Confidence of Dry Eye Diagnosis Methods (건성안 검사 방법의 신뢰도에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: To study on the confidence of dry eye diagnosis methods which need to prescribe contact lens. Methods: Non-invasive tear film break-up time (NIBUT) and tear film break-up time (TBUT) were measured in forty healthy subjects in their 20s, and then the subjects were classified into normal eye and dry eye. The results of McMonnies questionnaire, tear prism height measurement, Hardtack test, blink rate measurement and Schirmer test were compared with the results of NIBUT and TBUT. Results: The results of NIBUT and TBUT were as follows; 20 subjects had normal eyes, 10 subjects had dry eyes in both NIBUT and TBUT, and 10 subjects showed different results. In McMonnies questionnaire, the score of normal eye group averaged 8.2 and that of dry eye group averaged 18.5, which showed statistically significant difference. Furthermore, 100% of normal eye group classified by the results of NIBUT and TBUT corresponded with the result of McMonnies questionnaire and 90% of dry eye group showed the correspondence. Tear prism height of normal eye group averaged 0.32 mm and that of dry eye group averaged 0.23 mm, which were significantly different. Hardtack test, blink rate measurement and Schirmer test without local anesthesia showed no statistically significant difference between normal eye group and dry eye group. Conclusions: On dry eye diagnosis methods, the results of McMonnies questionnaire and tear prism height measurement had close correlation with the results of NIBUT and TBUT.

Optical Delay Amplified by Chirped Fiber Bragg Gratings

  • We report a novel optical delay line that can be implemented using only optical fiber and fiber devices without the need for any bulk-optic devices such as lens, prism, and moving mirror. The dispersive property of a chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) is exploited to get the delay. The proposed delay line constitutes two identical CFBGs cascaded in the reverse order with one of them being strained. Analysis reveals that the small displacement or the strain applied on the CFBG is effectively amplified in the delay line by the ratio of the minimum resonant wavelength and the reflection bandwidth of the CFBG. The dispersion properties of the CFBG with and without the strain are analyzed in detail. The theoretical performance of the proposed delay line is also discussed. Applications of the proposed delay line are expected in the field of high-speed optical coherence tomograpy.

  • This paper a new approach to the design of machine vision technique with a camera modeling that accounts for major sources of geometric distortion, namely, radial, decentering, and thin prism distortion. Radial distortion causes an inward or outward displacement of a given image point from its ideal location. Actual optical systems are subject to various degrees of decentering , that is , the optical centers of lens design and manufacturing as well as camera assembly. It is our propose to develop the vision system for the pattern recognition and the automatic test of parts and to apply the line of manufacturing. The performance of proposed vision system is illustrated by simulation and experiment.

  • A trepanning optics is the optical system which makes focus laser beam rotate and incline to the material processing surface. The trepanning optics is used in order to improve the quality of laser drilling process and control the taper of drilling diameter. In order to make trepanning optics, we can use the eccentricity of lens, scanner using two mirror, dove prism, or wedge. Among these method, in this paper wedge is used for trepanning optics. The wedge trepanning optics has advantage on the high speed of rotation. In this paper, we design the wedge trepanning optics using ray tracing. ements and engine design variables of system to satisfy the customer's requirements.

  • The importance of natural light in building is known by all of us who experienced dark rooms. The sunlight system is very important from energy saving and human welfare point of view. The system consists of light-collecting module, light -transporting module and light-emitting module. The light-collection is used light reflection mirror, a prism for lighting bent, and lens for light condensing. The transportation of collected sunlight is used polished duct, tube, pipe and specially used fiber optic cable. This paper investigate research and development trends of sunlight system for advanced product.

  • 최근 다이오드 레이저의 파워가 높아짐에 따라 다이오드 레이저를 이용한 레이저 가공 공정이 많은 분야에서 응용되고 있다. 그러나 고출력 다이오드 레이저의 출력은 타원형의 빔이므로 정밀 공정이 어려워 원형의 빔으로 변환하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 여러 가지 렌즈를 사용하여 설계를 시도하였으며 최적의 설계로서 anamorphic prism pair를 이용하여 타원형의 빔을 원형의 빔으로 바꾸는 광학계를 설계하였으며 원형빔의 크기를 축소하기 위해 beam size reducer를 설계하였다.

  • 원점(초점)에 놓인 광원(점광원)으로부터 방사된 ray들을 광축과 평행하게 진행하도록 그 진로의 방향을 바꾸어주는 것이 대형등명기의 광학부(중심렌즈부, 굴절링부, 절사프리즘부) 역할이다. 이러한 광학부에 대한 설계방법은 일부 서적에 소개되고 있지만, 광학부 설계시 각 부분마다 설계한계에 부딪히게 된다. 본 논문에서는 각각의 광학부에 대한 제한된 설계를 고찰하고 새로운 설계법을 도출하여 용이한 설계를 위해 설계법을 체계화시키는 작업에 대하여 설명하고 이 작업의 타당함을 확인하기 위해 계산에 의한 Ray Tracing과 배광예측프로그램인 Photopia 시뮬레이션의 결과를 제시하였다.

Prism lens design for Eye Glass Display to create virtual display (가상 디스플레이 구현을 위한 Eye Glass Display용 프리즘 렌즈 설계)

  • Eye Glass Display(EGD)의 광학계를 소형, 경량화 하기 위하여 OLED 마이크로 패널과 프리즘 렌즈를 사용하여 설계하였다. 광학계 설계에 사용된 OLED 마이크로 패널은 0.59"크기의 SVGA($800{\times}600$)급이며, 크기는 0.59"이며, 렌즈는 프리즘 렌즈로 설계되었다. 설계된 프리즘 렌즈는 3연으로 구성되었으며, 각 면은 각각 비회전대칭 비구면으로 tilt와 decenter를 사용하여 광학적 성능을 향상시켰다. 설계된 프리즘 렌즈의 화각(FOV)은 $28^{\circ}$, 왜곡수차는 4% 이내이며, 광학계의 해상도를 나타내는 MTF는 공간주파수 30lp/mm에서 full field가 40%이상의 성능을 나타내었다.
