  • This study was carried out to develop the printing Hanji made of mixed raw materials with mulberry bast fibers and alternative plant fibers such as bamboo, soybean stalks, pepper stalk and sea tangle. All alternative plant fibers were produced by the kraft pulping method with 2 stages of bleaching, and used to prepare the modified traditional paper, Hanji for printing purpose. Printing quality of modified Hanji was analyzed by measuring area and Formcircle of halftones and comparing a letter shape printed on paper. The Hanji made of 60% of mulberry bast fibers and 40% of bamboo bleached kraft pulp showed the best printing quality with the smallest area and the largest Formcircle in all modified Hanji. Through the image analysis of form circles of the letters printed on the Hanji, it could also be confirmed that the best printability of the modified Hanji was made using bamboo fibers.

국내 하프톤 스크린 인쇄를 위한 최적의 스크린 망사 선택 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimal Selection Method of Screen Mesh for Domestic Halftone Screen Printing)

  • Screen printing is a printing method with flexible plate surface characteristics. In addition, since the appearance of electronics industry the screen printing has been demanding high quality and definition. However, Screen printing is a method for taking ink through mesh opening because screen mesh tends to restrict quality of screen printing. In particular, the biggest problem compared with other printing type is halftone reproduction characteristics. Halftone reproduction characteristics for screen printing depend on screen mesh and opening. Dot losses or dot gains are observed through various types of screen mesh because thread of screen mesh interfere with the movement of the ink. Excessive dot losses or gains can affect the tonal range. Furthermore, this problem can result in other problem such as bad contrast and gray balance. Therefore, it is an important factor to use proper screen mesh for halftone screen printing. However, domestic screen printing industry relies on worker's experience in field rather than depending on objective data although standardized specifications and optimal printing conditions are required for screen printing. For this reason, it is important to stipulate standard condition for domestic screen printing industry. Therefore, it was examined to find tonal range by mesh opening in halftone prints process of screen printing used domestic paper and ink in this study. In addition, TVI(Tone Value Increase) characteristic was observed by comparing to the manuscripts and prints of the dot area ratio. Furthermore, contrast value and gray balance were confirmed for each condition of the printout. Conditions for the proper selection of screen mesh screen for the quality of the prints were also examined, compared with the international standard of screen printing, ISO 12647-5.

활판 인쇄용지의 압축성 및 물리적특성 향상을 위한 해조류 섬유의 적용 (Application of Sea Algae Fiber for the Improvement of Compressibility and Physical Properties of Letter Press Printing Paper)

  • For the improvement of letterpress printing paper quality, special fibers obtained from the sea were used by mixing with wood fibers. The sizes of the special fibers, which were from red algae in the sea, were 0.5-1 mm in length, and 3-7 ${\mu}m$ in width, respectively, and the fibers were supplied by Pegasus Research Inc. for the study. From the study, it was found that 10% addition of algae fibers greatly improved paper surface strength and internal bonding strength. The compressibility was estimated by utilizing 'Print-surf method' at high clamping pressure and with hard backing. Again, 10% addition of algae fibers greatly improved the compressibility of the paper. These results were expected that algae and wood fibers were distributed evenly through the sheet, and integrated one another to leave no empty space inside the paper.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of paper property changes by internal addition of surface strength agent on printability. Advances in printing technique has required the development of paper qualities in many aspects. Basically paper structure is composed of hydrogen bonds which induce many problems in high speed printing machine because of weak bonding strength. One of the important printing problems is surface picking when mechanical pulp or recycled pulp are used. It was caused by the ink-stained blanket in printing process because accumulations of pollutant in white water and other elements which are bonded weakly or do not have hydrogen bonds. Debris at paper surface adheres to blanket which deteriorates printing efficiency and causes various problems. To complement these problems, Pennocel 5137 of polysaccharide structure was used as an agent to improve paper's surface property, strength and printability. Paper surface picking was analyzed by RI-1 test. As the dosage amount increased tensile strength, fiber bonding strength and ZDT strength were improved. Further more formation, smoothness and surface picking resistance were improved. It was confirmed that when adding polysaccharide structure polymers to improve surface strength such as surface picking resistance, it was also possible to improve tensile strength, fiber bonding strength, formation and smoothness.

  • Talc has been used as coating pigments for gravure printing paper and light weight coated paper (LWC) in Europe for 30 years and the use of talc has been significantly increased every year. Currently, talc is used for about 15% of pigments for paper coating. Especially more than 50% of the coating pigments for gravure printing paper and web printing paper (web off-set) is applying talc. The use of talc improves printability, smoothness, and the coverage of base paper, and showed a significant effect on reducing the coated paper basis weight. In addition, it improves compressibility of the coating layer, influencing the gravure printability.

국내 신문 인쇄의 색재현 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Color Reproduction Properties of Domestic Newspaper Prints)

  • Web offset newspaper prints is the most widely used printing process in domestic printing industry, but there are no industry-wide specifications for press control to assure consistent quality across newspaper printing plants. As newspaper printing becomes more of a commodity and less of an art, it is necessary to develop the print quality specification standard suitable for Korea web offset newspaper printing field. There are a few commonly employed printing standards such as, SNAP (Specification for Non-Heatset Publication) of the US, IFRA(INCA-FIEJ Research Association), J-color (Japan printing machinery association). And there exists KS for domestic standards, however, since it has been directly imported from ISO standards, there are discrepancies in printing materials and media. This paper aims to examine the color reproduction quality of domestic web offset newspaper prints by comparing with foreign standards. Printing experiments on this study have been performed at one of the domestic newspaper printing companies. The color reproduction properties of the web offset newspaper prints are measured by means of densitometry and colorimetry. These measures are evaluated comapratively with the international standards by means of analyzing, the major factors that determine the color reproduction quality of web offset newspaper prints.

  • Recently, roll-to-roll printers are being developed actively by various research teams such as research institutes, universities and companies for the application of printed electronics. The printing methods that are widely used in the roll-to-roll printing equipments are gravure, gravure and flexo, which depend on the inks used and electronic devices produced. In general, a single printing unit of roll-to-roll printing equipment adopts only one printing method and this method is not changeable, which limits the application fields of the developed printing equipments. In this paper, the roll-to-roll printer, in which the printing unit has the novel design concept, is described.

  • As screen printing is changed by automation recently, could print more exactly. However, must suffer great many trial and error to have still gotten perfect result. By the way, at this step, fair time and money should be invested. Therefore, if search for optimum condition in early time visualizing screen printing process using simulator program before progress printing, is judged that may be correct and gets printing result efficiently. In this paper, searched optimum printing speed and ink viscosity using FLOW-3D program. Also, the result could confirm truth that is agreeing almost with experiment contents. Through this, is thought that may expect extension of screen printing wide application that vivify advantage of screen print if use simulation program.

  • Stability of high-speed roll-to-roll printing machines is one of the most important factors that are required for the printing machines to operate properly and to obtain reasonable printing performance. This paper proposes a new model for the web-tension system of a high-speed gravure printing machine considering span-length variations due to dancer rollers, and analyzes the stability of plant dynamics of the printing machine using the proposed model. Span-length variations due to dancer motions are considered for the modeling of plant dynamics in two ways; one is to include the effect of span-length variations without considering dancer inertias and viscous frictions, and the other is to include the effect of span-length variations with considering dancer inertias and viscous frictions. The stability of the plant model is analyzed for various web-speeds using the eigenvalues of the linearized model about operating points.

  • Recently, Study of 3D freeform fabrication method was working in the various applications. For example, in the powder base, it's laminated using a binding method or laser sintering method. However, these methods are not suitable in the office environments because it dust with powder that is bad for health. In this paper, we introduce a method of 3D freeform fabrication using a curing of photo-polymer resin and construct a system has multi printing head. A photo-polymer curing method has simply fabrication process and high strength of manufacturing part. However, this method has a problem on the multi print-head system. Because multi-printing system has a other printing method compare with a single printing system. Therefore, we experiment a single head 3D printing and proposed a 3D printing method using a multi-piezo head.
