Training of Future Specialists in Modern Conditions: Cultural Aspects

  • An increasing number of students from different cultures study in higher primary schools. This trend is due to: 1) the government's discourse on increasing the level of participation of foreign students in national educational programs and the need for internationalization; 2) the need of employers for professionals who are trained to work in a multicultural environment to meet the needs of different markets and customers. Methodology. This study is based on the results of the OECD (2018) structured survey of 1,093 teachers at universities in Australia, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Georgia, Malta, Vietnam, Turkey, and Argentina, examined policy, the practice of cultural characteristics in training specialists, and teachers' attitudes to cultural diversity. Results. The attitude and perception of cultural features by teachers does not determine the practice of forming a cultural environment and managing this environment to ensure quality education of students of different nations. The main culturological aspects of training are self-expression of cultural and ethnic identities, expression of cultural characteristics and their value through multicultural activities in universities, teaching students to combat ethnic or cultural discrimination. Therefore, the formation of a multicultural environment in higher education occurs through the activities of students and teachers, which complement each other. The practical value lies in identifying two important components of the formation of cultural diversity among students, such as self-expression of ethnic and cultural identity and the expression of cultural differences by teachers in the course of educational activities.

Development of a Family Nursing Model for Prevention of Cancer and Other Noncommunicable Diseases through an Appreciative Inquiry

  • Background: Cancer and non-communicable diseases are a major issue not only for the developed but also developing countries. Public health and primary care nursing offer great potential for primary and secondary prevention of these diseases through community and family-based approaches. Within Thailand there are related established educational curricula but less is known about how graduate practitioners enact ideas in practice and how these can influence policy at local levels. Aim: The aim of this inquiry was to develop family nursing practice in primary care settings in the Isaan region or Northeastern Thailand and to distill what worked well into a nursing model to guide practice. Materials and Methods: An appreciative inquiry approach involving analysis of written reports, focus group discussions and individual interviews was used to synthesize what worked well for fourteen family nurses involved in primary care delivery and to build the related model. Results: Three main strategies were seen to offer a basis for optimal care delivery, namely: enacting a participatory action approach mobilizing families' social capital; using family nursing process; and implementing action strategies within communities. These were distilled into a new conceptual model. Conclusions: The model has some features in common with related community partnership models and the World Health Organization Europe Family Health Nurse model, but highlights practical strategies for family nursing enactment. The model offers a basis not only for planning and implementing family care to help prevent cancer and other diseases but also for education of nurses and health care providers working in communities. This articulation of what works in this culture also offers possible transference to different contexts internationally, with related potential to inform health and social care policies, and international development of care models.

배양세포의 성염색질에 관한 세포학적 연구 1. 배양기간을 달리한 고양이, 몰못트, 닭의 배양세포에 있어서의 성염색질에 대하여

  • The frequency and pattern of sex chromatin in primary cultured cells of kidney cortex of cats and guinea-pigs, and muscle of chick embroys were examined and compared to those of in vivo condition, with special reference to the various cultured stages. 1. In cat, the frequencies of sex chromatin positive I of peripheral position were average 62.7% in female, and 15% in male, whereas those of non-peripherla position were 5.8% in female and 0.1% in male. The incident proportion between them showed a marked difference-approximately 10 times higher in female than male. These results failry indicated that a distinct nuclear dimorphism with regard to the sex chromatin positive I was established in cultured cells. The position of sex chormatin was usually peripheral location. The tendency of frequencies , with reference to the cultured stages, was low count in primary extracted and initial stage cells , but it showed a peaked frequency in 10-13 days after primary culture, and after that the frequencies were decreased gradually. Compared between I vitro and in vivo condition of the same tissues, the cells in vivo exhibited the sex chromatin in high frequency at the peak showed stage. 2. In guinea-pig , the frequencyies of peripheral positive I were 36.8% in female and 6.3% in male, while non-peripheral positions were 6.1% in female and 3.5% inmale. Its incident was a rate of nearly 4 times higher in female than male. The nuclear dimorphism was also established in cultrued cells of guinea-pig. The position and the incident frquency showed a similar pattern as in cat except the primary extracted cells. 3. In chick embryo, the frequencies of sex chromatin positive I of peripheral position were 38.2% in female, and 18.3% in male, non-peripheral position, however, was hardly to find. These results suggest that the definite sexual dimorphism was unable to find in chick embryo cultured cells. The position and the incident tendency were a similar pattern as in above mammals and the frequency was higher in vitro cells.

반룡환의 흰쥐태아중뇌에서의 도파민세포 보호효과 (Neuroprotective Effects of Banryong-hwan in Primary Rat Mesencephalic Dopaminergic Neurons)

  • Objectives : Oxidative stress has a critical role in neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we investigated the antioxidant and neuroprotective effects of the ethanolic extract of Banryong-hwan (BRHE) in SH-SY5Y cells and primary rat mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons. Methods : To assess the antioxidant effects, we carried out 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging assay, 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)(ABTS) radical cation decolorization assay, and determination of total polyphenolic content. We evaluated the effect of BRHE treatment on neuroprotection against 6-hydroxydopamine(6-OHDA) toxicity using thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay, nitric oxide(NO) assay, reactive oxygen species(ROS) assay in SH-SY5Y cells and tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) immunocytochemistry in primary rat mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons. Results : BRHE showed IC50 values of 328.10 ${\mu}g/mL$ and 43.12 ${\mu}g/mL$ in DPPH assay and in ABTS assay, respectively. Total polyphenolic content was 180.76 ${\mu}g/mL$. In SH-SY5Y cells, BRHE significantly attenuated the toxicity induced by 6-OHDA at the concentrations of 25-100 ${\mu}g/mL$ pre- and post- treatment in MTT assay. While 6-OHDA increased the NO and ROS contents, BRHE decreased them in a dose dependent manner. Moreover, in primary dopaminergic neuron culture, BRHE significantly protect-ed the dopaminergic cell loss against 6-OHDA toxicity up to 136% at the concentration of 75 ${\mu}g/mL$. Conclusions : These results demonstrate that BRHE has neuroprotective effect against 6-OHDA induced neurotoxicity through decreasing NO and ROS generation.

고농도 비타민 C첨가가 연골 초대배양세포의 증식에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of High Concentration of Ascorbic Acid on the Growth of Primary Cultured Cells of Chondrocytes)

  • L-Ascorbic acid (AsA), commonly known as vitamin C, which is one of the antioxidant vitamins, plays a role in cellular oxidant quenching. Some of the biochemical reactions in which it takes part have been traced through organ culture technique. But in cell cultured system, views on stimulatory and inhibitory action of AsA on cell growth are conflicting. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the inhibitory action of high concentration AsA on the cell growth in Primary chondrocyte isolated from rat ribs. Cells were exposed to ascorbate at various concentrations. Supplement of AsA induced stimulation of cell growth in primary cultured cells of chondrocytes. Most remarkable stimulation of cell growth by AsA was found in primary cultured chondrocytes. However, it showed that they were dead in the medium which contained AsA at the concentration higher than 1.0 mM. This lethal effect of AsA causing the cell death was inhibited by the addition of catalase in the medium. This supposed that hydroxyl radical (ㆍOH) induced from $H_2O$$_2$ was actively cytotoxic agent. Based on the results, when AsA was added in medium at normal concentrations, the cell growth was stimulated by inducing the formation of extracellular matrix. On the contrary, if added in medium at excess concentrations, the cell growth was inhibited because $H_2O$$_2$ were generated from AsA in medium. Therefore, addition of AsA at the normal concentrations stimulates cell growth, but excess concentrations of AsA induces cell death.

각질형세포와 피지선세포 공배양을 통한 지루성 피부염 억제 소재 연구 (The Study about Relief Effect of Essential Oil on Seborrheic Dermatitis with Co-culture System)

  • 보통 지루성 피부염은 과다 생성된 피지와 함께 피지를 영양분으로 상재하는 M. globosa 이스트에 의해서 얼굴, 몸 및 두피에 자주 발생하는 피부질환이다. 본 연구는 천연정유성분(Natural essential oils)으로부터 지루성 피부염과 관련된 항염증 활성과 M. globosa 이스트에 대한 증식 억제 활성을 평가하고자 하였다. 지루성 피부염 진정 효능을 평가하기 위해서 지루성 피부염 환경을 모사한 공배양 세포 평가 모델을 구축하였다. 본 평가모델을 통해서 육계(Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cinnamon bark)의 껍질 및 박하(Mentha arvensis, Cornmint)의 잎에서 추출한 천연정유 성분이 다양한 지루성 피부염 자극원에 따른 Interleukin-$1{\alpha}$ (IL-$1{\alpha}$), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Interleukin-8 (IL-8) 사이토카인의 발현량 증가와 피지생성 증가를 감소시킴을 확인하였다. 또한, 지루성 피부염 유발균으로 알려진 M. globosa 이스트에 대한 증식 저해 평가를 통해 두 정유성분에서 유의한 M. globosa 증식 억제 능(MIC ${\leq}0.0625%$)을 확인하였다. 본 연구 결과로부터 육계껍질 및 박하 잎 정유성분이 지루성 피부염에 따른 염증성 사이토카인의 발현량을 감소시켰다. 특히 육계 껍질 오일은 지루성 피부염 주요 원인인 Malassezia furfur 및 M. globosa 증식을 억제함으로써, 지루성 두피 염증의 예방과 효과적인 관리 제품의 소재로서 활용가치가 높음을 알 수 있다.

사회문화적 요인이 미국 고령층의 복지기술 수용에 미치는 영향: 전문가 인터뷰를 중심으로 (An Analysis of Professional's Perspectives on the Roles of Socio-cultural Factors and Welfare Technology among Older Adults in the US)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 질적연구방법을 이용하여 미국 고령층의 복지기술 수용성에 영향을 미치는 사회문화적 요인을 추출하고 각 요인과 복지기술 수용성간의 연관성을 분석하여 향후 고령자의 삶의 잘향상을 위한 사회문화적 기반복지기술 수용성 증진방안을 도출하는데 기여하기 위함이다. 10명의 노인분야 전문가와 심층인터뷰를 통해 수집한 자료를 두 차례에 걸친 개방형 코딩 프로세스로 결과를 도출하였다. 자료분석 결과 7개의 주 코드와 주 코드에 중첩된 22개의 2차 코드 등 총 29개의 코드를 통해 사회문화적 요인을 추출하였다. 분석결과 개인주의, 가족중심문화, 실용주의, 저맥락 문화, 프라이버시, 재미추구와 수평적문화 등이 미국 고령층의 복지기술수용에 영향을 미치는 사회문화적 요인으로 나타났다. 이 연구결과는 고령층의 복지 기술사용의도에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 국가별 문화적 차이를 정의하고, 각 요인과 복지기술 수용성간의 관계를 분석하기 위한 설문조사 개발에 기여할 것이다. 이를 위해서는 향후 연구에는 한 국가 또는 국가 간 사회문화적 차이를 설명하는 척도개발이 필요하다.

우리나라 수도지반재배의 효과와 전망 (Effects and Future Prospect of the Cooperative Culture of Low-land Rice in Korea)

  • 우리나라 수도작개량의 방향은 단위당 수량을 향상시키되 어디까지나 지역전체에 고도기술의 적용으로 고단수를 평준화시키면서 능률면에서도 공동작업관리로 이끌어 노동생산성을 높혀야 한다는데 있으므로 이를 구현하는 생산체제인 수도집단재배의 수행을 위한 이론을 연구하고 그 발전을 위한 기대효과와 전망을 구명하여야 하는바 현재까지의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 수도작지대에서 고단수의 평준화를 위한 생산기술을 보급하고 고능율의 경영을 위해서는 집단재배가 가장 효과적인 방법의 하나이다. 2. 효과적인 집단재배를 실천하기 위하여는 단지의 수리, 토양, 품종 기타 영농상황을 보다 체계화하여야 한다. 3. 이와같은 기간재배기술은 경작농가의 협의에 의하여 재배력을 작성하고 단지내에서의 모든 재배법은 재배력에 의하여 통일되며 기간기술의 작업은 공동으로 하고 기타 세부작업은 개발로 한다. 4. 개별경영에서는 충실하게 도입되기 어려웠던 기술이 집단재배에서는 용이하게 도입될 수 있었으며 1968년도의 전국 집단재배 성적을 보면 일반재배에 비하여 평균 23.3%의 증수를 보이고 있다. 5. 현재 우리나라 집단재배의 형태는 초보적인 협정 영농형을 중심으로 추진되고 있는데 일부작업에는 공동작업형 및 청부작업형도 드물게 결합되고 있는 것이 보이고 있으나 앞으로 보다 안정다수확을 위한 성력화 또는 대규모의 기계화를 위해서는 공동작업형을 촉진시키면서 입지조건에 따라 기술신탁형이나 청부작업형을 결합시켜 나가는 방향으로 발전되어야 할것이다.

공공도서관문화 구성요소 도출에 관한 연구 (A Study on Deduce Components of the Public Library Culture)

  • 이 연구는 도서관문화의 정의를 규명하고, 공공도서관문화의 구성요소들을 객관적으로 도출하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 해당 분야의 전문가들의 생각과 경험을 수집한 뒤 그 내용을 수렴하여 최종 요소를 도출하는 델파이기법과 도출된 요소를 바탕으로 요소별 쌍대비교를 통해 요소간의 중요도 및 우선순위를 검증할 수 있는 계층적의사결정방법을 사용하였다. 델파이기법과 계층적의사결정방법에 의해 도출된 공공도서관문화 구성요소는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전문가 패널(문헌정보학과 교수와 도서관 사서)을 대상으로 1 2차 델파이 조사를 실시하여 도서관문화 구성요소를 도출하였다. 1차 조사에서는 29개 요소(물질문화 6, 비물질문화 23)를 추출하였으며, 2차 조사에서는 21개 구성요소(물질문화 3, 비물질문화 18)를 도출하였다. 둘째, 공공도서관 문화 구성요소를 쌍대비교를 통해 나타난 우선순위는 <정신문화>, <행동문화>, <물질문화>의 순으로 나타났다. 각 영역별 가중치가 가장 높은 요소로는 <물질문화>의 '자료 이용 및 이용법'. <정신문화>의 '사서의 가치관', <행동문화>의 '도서관 윤리 의식'으로 나타났다.

Protective Effect of BOEC Co-Culture System against Nitric Oxide on Development of Bovine IVM/IVF Embryos

  • Somatic cells such as oviduct epithelial cell, uterine epithelial cell, cumulus-granulosa cell and buffalo rat river cell has been used to establish an effective culture system for bovine embryos produced in in vitro. But nitric oxide (NO) metabolites secreted from somatic cells were largely arrested the development of bovine in vitro matured/ in vitro fertilized (IVM/IVF) embryos, suggesting that NO was induced the embryonic toxic substance into culture medium. The objective of this study was to investigate whether BOEC co-culture system can ameliorate the NO-mediated oxidative stress in the culture of bovine IVM/IVF embryos. Therefore, we evaluated the developmental rate of bovine IVM/IVF embryos under BOEC co-culture system in the presence or absence of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), as a NO donor, and also detected the expression of growth factor (TGF-$\beta$, EGF and IGFBP) and apoptosis (Caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2) genes. The supplement of SNP over 5 uM was strongly inhibited blastocyst development of bovine IVM/IVF embryos than in control and 1 uM SNP group (Table 2). The developmental rates beyond morulae stages of bovine IVM/IVF embryos co-cultured with BOEC regardless of SNP supplement (40.4% in 5 uM SNP+ BOEC group and 65.1% in BOEC group) were significantly increased than those of control (35.0%) and SNP single treatment group (23.3%, p<0.05: Table 3). The transcripts of Bax and Caspase-3 genes were detected in all experiment groups (1:Isolated fresh cell (IFC), 2:Primary culture cell (PCC), 3:PCC after using the embryo culture, 4: PCC containing 5 uM SNP and 5: PCC containing 5 uM SNP after using the embryo culture), but Bcl-2 gene was not detected in IFC and PCC (Fig. 1). In the expression of growth factor genes, TGF-$\beta$ gene was found in all experimental groups, and EGF and IGFBP genes were not found in IFC and PCC (Fig. 2). These results indicate that BOEC co-culture system can increase the development beyond morula stages of bovine IVM/IVF embryos, possibly suggesting the alleviation of embryonic toxic substance like nitric oxide.
