  • Purpose - A product bundling is a marketing approach where multiple products or components are packaged together into one bundle solution. This paper aims to introduce an optimal bundle search problem (hereinafter called "OBSP") which may be embedded with online recommendation system to provide an optimized service considering pairwise discount and delivery cost. Research design, data, and methodology - Online retailers have their own discount policy and it is time consuming for online shoppers to find an optimal bundle. Unlike an online system recommending one item for each search, the OBSP considers multiple items for each search. We propose a mathematical formulation with numerical example for the OBSP and analyzed the complexity of the problem. Results - We provide two results from the complexity analysis. In general case, the OBSP belongs to strongly NP-Hard which means the difficulty of the problem while the special case of OBSP can be solved within polynomial time by transforming the OBSP into the minimum weighted perfect matching problem. Conclusions - In this paper, we propose the OBSP to provide a customized service considering bundling price and delivery cost. The results of research will be embedded with an online recommendation system to help customers for easy and smart online shopping.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the purchase behavior, response, and complaining behavior for discounting claims in clothing products. The subjects are composed of 360 female consumers. Data were collected through questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was used for analysis of this study. The findings of this study were as follows: First, female consumer used department store for buying discount apparel products the most. The percentage of buying casual or sports wear for discounting was the most. Most consumers purchased clothing products when discounting at 20-40 percentages. Second, even if, consumers tended to distrust discounting claims, they were satisfied with discount apparel products. Especially, they were satisfied with price, design, color, and size, while they were dissatisfied with sewing and fabric in discount products. Third, most consumer knew the knowledge of consumer rights, but most dissatisfied consumers did not assert positive consumer's right. Therefore, marketer should increase the accessibility of their complaint receiving mechanism for dissatisfied consumers in retail environment.

  • This paper considers the following case: (1) the product is paid by the right price for a lot accepted by a given consumer's acceptance sampling plan, and (2) the product is paid by the discounted price for a lot rejected by this plan. In such a case, the producer's sampling plan need not be the same as that of the consumer's. From the producer's view point, the producer need to determine the preliminary sample size which maximizes his revenue. This paper, therefore, determines an optimal preliminary sample size from the producer's view point. This preliminary sample size is affected by the consumer's acceptance sampling plan, percent defective, preliminary inspection cost and the discount rate of the price.

  • In this paper we study the delivery policy of internet bookstores and recommend the improved policy to increase customer satisfaction and sales revenue. We classify customers into two, the price-sensitive and the delivery time-sensitive, and develop a new shipping method, the unhurried shipping, for the price-sensitive who are reluctant to pay shipping fee for the small purchase but willing to wait extra time for the ordered goods. The customers could get discount on shipping fee by the unhurried shipping but have to accept the longer delivery lead-time. We investigate the possible ways to reduce costs with the prolonged delivery time and show that some costs regarding shipmentand inventory could be saved in order to make up for additional shipping costs for the price-sensitive.

  • This paper deals with an integrated problem of inventory control and dynamic pricing strategies for a commodity with price and sales-period dependent demand pattern, where a seller and customers have complete information of each other. The problem consists of two parts; one is each buyer's benefit problem which makes the best decision on price and time for buyer to purchase items, and the other one is a seller's profit problem which decides an optimal sales strategy concerned with inventory control and discount schedule. The seller's profit function consists of sales revenue and inventory holding cost functions. The two parts are closely related into each other with some related variables, so that any existing general solution methods can not be applied. Therefore, a simplified model with single seller and two customers in considered first, where demand for multiple units is allowed to each customer within a time limit. Therewith, the model is generalized for a n-customer-classes problem. To solve the proposed n-customer-set problem, a dynamic programming algorithm is derived. In the proposed dynamic programming algorithm, an intermediate profit function is used, which is computed in case of a fixed initial inventory level and then adjusted in searching for an optimal inventory level. This leads to an optimal sales strategy for a seller, which can derive an optimal decision on both an initial inventory level and a discount schedule, in $O(n^2)$ time. This result can be used for some extended problems with a small customer set and a short selling period, including sales strategy for department stores, Dutch auction for items with heavy holding cost, open tender of materials, quantity-limited sales, and cooperative buying in the on/off markets.

  • The purpose of this research was to study four impulse buying dimensions and planned buying, marketing stimulus factors in store, buying im-pulse and impulse buying of female consumer. The female consumers were divided into three groups, i.e., college students, housewives and workingwomen. 408 women living in Kyung Nam were selected as respondents by convenience sampling methods. The results of this research can be summarized as follows. 1. The overall impulses were stronger for college students and workingwomen than house-wives. The impulse buying dimensions were different according to the status of women. 2. Buying impulse and impulse buying of clothing were more likely to be for college students and working women than housewives. 3. The display in the store gave the information to the three groups equally. These infor-mations helped to make the impulse buying. 4. The marketing stimulus factors were different according to the status of respondents. Sensitive and aesthetic factors were important for college students and workingwomen, and the utility of clothing were important for house-wives. The color of clothing, the discount of regular price and the low price had the same meanings to the three groups. 5. Impulse buying dimensions were effected by the marketing stimulus factors. 6. The fashionable products, the use of credit card, famous brand, gracious display of clothing and the kind services of salesman were the common factors that stimulate the consumer to buy the clothings. But the color and design of products had more effect on the college students, and the discount of regular price and the utility of clothing were more important for the workingwomen. The color and the utility of clothing were stimulus factors for the housewives.

  • In this paper, we consider an economic order quantity(EOQ) and an optimal discount pricing policy for the monopsony related to the weapon system acquisition. In the monopsony case, a buyer wishes to maximize the profit. However, a seller wants to minimize the total inventory related cost since a buyer can determine the purchase price for the product. We develop a generalized version of EOQ model for the monopsony, including one seller-one buyer model and two seller-one buyer model. A model of buyer reaction to any given pricing scheme is developed to show that there exits a unified pricing policy which motivates the buyer to increase its ordering quantity per order, thereby reducing the joint(buyer and seller) ordering and holding costs in the system.

  • This paper considers a remanufacturing and purchasing planning problem, in which either used products(or wastes) are remanufactured or remanufactured products(or final products) are purchased to satisfy dynamic demands of remanufactured products over a discrete and finite time horizon. Also, as remanufactured products are purchased more than or equal to a special quantity Q, a discount price policy is applied. The problem assumes that the related cost(remanufacturing and inventory holding costs of used products, and the purchasing and inventory holding costs of remanufactured products) functions are concave and backlogging is not allowed. The objective of this paper is to determine the optimal remanufacturing and purchasing policy that minimizes the total cost to satisfy dynamic demands of remanufactured products. This paper characterizes the properties of the optimal policy and then, based on these properties, presents a dynamic programming algorithm to find the optimal policy. Also, a network-based procedure is proposed for the case of a large quantity of low cost used products. A numerical example is then presented to demonstrate the procedure of the proposed algorithm.
