Conclusions : Continuous operation of the school dental clinic is essential to promote the lifelong oral health care in the elementary school children and the teachers. So the nationwide expansion of the continuous school dental clinic is very important to prevent the dental caries in the elementary school children.
The study was carried out to estimate the prevalence and possible causes of refractive errors in primary school children. At one primary school in urban Daegu, one in the medium-sized city of Yongcheon and 2 in rural areas, children wearing glasses and children with visual acuity of less than 0.7 were given our questions. 354 out of 378 children responded to our questions. The research was done from March 2000 to February 2001. The data were analyzed by percentage, x2 test, t-test, ANOVA and Scheff method. Children with eyesight problems were more prevalent in urban areas than rural areas. The lack of luminosity during reading (p=0.015), length of reading time (p=0.08) and posture which watching TV (p=0.023) appeared leading causes of progressing myopias. The visual impairment caused by refractive errors may affect the mental and physical activity of primary school children and lead to social isolation, loneliness and depression. However, little attention may be paid by professionals engaged in providing health care to the children. Once we have recognized the impact of visual impairment, we may be in a better position to prevent progressing refractive errors.
In recent, the advancement of wearable devices and wireless body area networking technologies motivate researchers to pay attention to remote healthcare system for monitoring patients health and disease progression effectively. However, in order to implement a practical remote healthcare system, we must consider the security and privacy of patient's personal health information transmitted to healthcare servers through the network. Hence, in this paper, we propose a secure health data transmission protocol in remote healthcare monitoring system to protect patient's health information and prevent privacy from eavesdropping on the network. To achieve our security goals, we design an efficient secure protocol based on the identity-based cryptography with key evolution technique, and then confirm the superiority and the efficiency of the proposed protocol as compared with the existing protocol of Yang et al.
This study was conducted to evaluate the differences in symptoms of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) between vinylhouse farmers and non-vinylhouse farmers. The study included 118 residents who lived in a rural community. All subjects were assigned to the vinylhouse farmers group (N=58) and the non-vinylhouse farmers group (N=60) according to main agricultural work type. All respondents were interviewed by means of a structured questionnaire. WMSDs symptoms were measured by a self- assessed questionnaire on symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders, and HRQoL was measured by SF-36. Vinylhouse farmers had significant more symptoms of WMSDs in each regional parts of musculoskeletal system, and had significant poor total health status in SF-36. Symptoms of WMSDs were most reliable risk factor for HRQoL. Various health promotion interventions are needed to prevent WMSDs in all farmers and especially vinylhouse workers.
The purpose of this study was to investigated the fluoroquinolone (FQ) resistance and presence of gyrA and grlA gene in 87 Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolates obtained from clinical samples of dogs and cats. Also, the profiles of FQ resistance compared with methicillin resistant S. pseudintermedius (MRSP) isolates. FQ resistance was observed for enrofloxacin (41.4%), ciprofloxacin (39.1%), norfloxacin (36.8%), ofloxacin and levofloxacin (32.2%, respectively), and moxifloxacin (31.0%). Thirty-eight (43.7%) of 87 S. pseudintermedius isolates were resistant to more than one FQ. Twenty-six (64.5%) of 38 FQ resistant isolates were resistant to all the six FQ tested. Of 38 FQ resistant isolates, gyrA gene was detected in all isolates but grlA gene was not found. Moreover, 19 MRSP isolates were resistant to enrofloxacin (63.2%), ciprofloxacin (57.9%), norfloxacin (52.6%), and ofloxacin, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin (47.4%, respectively). FQ resistance were highly prevalence in S. pseudintermedius isolates from dogs and cats. Our results emphasize the prudent use of antimicrobial agents to companion animals is necessary for prevent antimicrobial resistance.
Purpose: The purposes of this review were to address misconceptions of childhood fever and fever management practice among parents and health care providers, and to identify the scientific evidences against such misconceptions and practices. Methods: Journal databases and clinical guidelines from 2000 to 2015 were searched. The search terms were fever, fever management, misconception, myth, fiction, fact, fever phobia, child, antipyretics, tepid bath, alternating use/combined use of antipyretics, and physical cooling method. Results: There are significant gaps between current concepts and practices, and the scientific evidence. Misconceptions and unrealistic concerns about childhood fever still exist among parents and even health care providers, worldwide. The evidences suggest that antipyretics should be given carefully with the aim of relieving discomfort or pain rather than decreasing the temperature itself. Alternating use of antipyretics should be discouraged due to the risk of confusion and error. Antipyretics do not prevent febrile convulsions. Moreover, the scientific evidence does not support tepid sponge massage. Conclusion: Evidence-based childhood fever management interventions should be targeted toward parents and health care providers. By adopting an evidence-based approach to nursing interventions, pediatric nurses can ensure children receive appropriate and safe fever management.
This study is intended to set the criteria for the classification of prescription and non-prescription drugs, and classify hospital pharmacy formulations according to the criteria. 717 hospital pharmacy formulations were collected ken the Center for review and evaluation of health insurance, and national provincial offices. Hospital pharmacy formulations were evaluated based on the 'Guidelines on the Hospital Pharmacy Formulations (Notification No. 2000-46)'by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Drug classification advisory committee was composed of twelve medical and pharmaceutical specialists, and suggested opinions on the drug classification. Among 717 formulations, 651 drugs $(90.8\%)$ satisfied the basic conditions for the hospital pharmacy formulations. 312 formulations $(43.5\%)$ were classified as drugs for the disinfection and tests. For the rest of them, 231 formulations were classified as prescription drugs whereas 108 drugs were as non-prescription drugs. 56 non-prescription drugs were included as hospital formulations, because there were no therapeutic alternatives. Iu sum 599 drugs $(83.5\%)$ were suggested as hospital pharmacy formulations. The study also recommends pharmaceutical companies to produce drugs of limited commercial value, and doctors to change their unique prescribing behavior in order to prevent the abuse of hospital pharmacy formulations.
Background: In Korea, a healthy 36-year-old man developed acute interstitial pneumonitis soon after inhaling a waterproofing spray which he had applied at home to his outdoor jacket. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to review cases of varying degrees of respiratory toxicity and poisoning in connection with the use of waterproofing spray and summarize major reasons for cases of poisoning. Methods: We searched articles reporting on a combination of a waterproofing agent and/or respiratory symptoms, including acute respiratory syndrome, lung injury, pneumonia, pulmonary toxicity, and respiratory disease. Results: We reviewed a number of cases of varying degrees of respiratory toxicity and poisoning resulting from inhalation of waterproofing spray containing fluorocarbon co-polymer, solvents and propellants reported in a variety of countries. The literature searches concluded that among the ingredients of waterproofing agents, fluorinated polymer may cause acute respiratory health effects. Conclusion: Environmental policy should be implemented in order to prevent consumers from using household and industrial products including waterproofing agents. In addition, a national surveillance system should be created to collect cases of poisoning caused by the use of consumer products.
