  • This paper is primarily directed toward analyzing the transient response characteristics in hydraulic pipe lines. The exact solution to the transient response characteristics was obtained by using the complicated transfer function derived by Iberall. The discrepancy with the exact and approximate is small, so the approximate solution is adopted to the theoretical one. An equation was derived which describes the pressure times relationship Hat occurs at the end of volume terminated transmission line following a sudden pressure change at its inputs. As a result, It is found that the density has relationship about the Wave Propagation is very useful in analyzing the transient response characteristics of hydraulic pipe lines. The velocity of Pressure wave Propagation decreases as the density of fluid increased.

탄성관을 삽입한 관로에서의 비정상류에 관한 연구 (Study on Transient Flow in Pipeline with Flexible Tube)

  • Experimental and numerical study was done to confirm the effect of the flexible tube in pipeline on transient flow oscillation. Experiment was made for a pipeline with and without deformable flexible tube using a single pumping system of main stainless pipe. The wave speeds of main pipe and flexible tube were calculated from the pipe material properties, structures, and boundary conditions. Time dependent pressure fluctuations were calculated for the pipeline using the simple and the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic models for the deformation of main pipe and flexible tube. Pressure calculated by the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model showed better agreement with measured one than pressure by the simple model. Experimental and numerical results show that the maximum pressure as well as amplitude of pressure oscillation was decreased by inserting short flexible tube in pipeline. Hence, inserted short flexible tube to pipeline was found to be effective for the suppression of strong pressure oscillation. Moreover, the wave speed in pipe was discussed based on numerical and experimental results.

  • Turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine is one of promising technologies in the automotive industry. However, reduction in turbo-lag under transient operation is one of important challenging points to improve drivability. Engine transient performance was investigated in a 4-cylinder 2.0 L turbo-gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engine using Inconel and TiAl (Titanium Aluminide alloy) turbine wheel turbochargers. The TiAl turbocharger performed superior transient boost pressure and torque rises under various engine transient operation conditions. These were mainly due to lower turbine rotational inertia of TiAl turbocharger. The Maximum boost pressure and torque build up were founded in 1500 rpm and 2000 rpm, instant load change from 20% to 100% of pedal position.

  • Transient 3-dimensional elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) analysis is performed on the contacting teeth surfaces of involute spur gears. Kinematics of the gear and the pinion are taken into account to get accurate geometric clearance around the EHL region of the contacting teeth. The surface pressure and film thickness distribution for the whole contact faces in a lubricated condition at several time steps are obtained through the analysis. Besides the pressure spike at the outlet region, a representative phenomenon in EHL regime, the pressure at the inlet region is slightly higher than that of the center region. The film thickness of transient condition is thicker than that of steady condition.

  • This study has been mainly motivated to numerically investigate the transient flame response to pressure oscillations in the gaseous hydrogen - liquid oxygen flames at supercritical pressures. The present analysis is based on the real-fluid transient flamlet model and the flame field is acoustically perturbed only by the sinewave oscillations in the frequency range from 1,000 Hz to 5,000 Hz. Based on numerical results, the detailed discussions are made for the flame response characteristics and the transient flamelet response associated with the high-frequency combustion instability in the liquid propellant rocket engines.

  • A transient hydraulic flow rate computation scheme is described here so that the transient hydraulic flow rate can be determined using the dynamic pressure measurements at the ends of a straight flow line with a dynamic model of the hydraulic line. This method can be applied to determine the orifice ares of high response valve. Simulation results indicate that the method is relatively robust to realistic levels of uncertainties in the fluid properties.

  • Transient flow in a cold-water supply system for cooling the inside of a coal mining pit was numerically simulated. Properly designed and presetted pressure reducing valves control the level of pressures of the piping system at normal or emergent conditions Quasi-steady relations to simulate the valve motion are obtained and the transient performance of the valve is investigated in the present paper. The present method reasonably simulate transient phenomena in the system including the pressure reducing valve. Excessive valve motion and column separation are simulated when the flow is abruptly reduced. A calculated example of the real system is also presented. The simulation can be used for the safety-check and the guidance for design and operation in emergent cases of the system.

Transient Forces on Pipe Bends by the Propagation of Pressure Wave

  • External forecs acting on a pipe bend change when a transient pressure wave propagates through the bend. Analytical expressions are derived to compute the changes of these forces which depend mainly on static pressure rather than fluid momentum. This analysis reveals that the change of the vertical component of the force acting on a pipe bend with an angle larger than 90 may reverse in direction during the passage of a pressure wave through the bend.

  • 축대칭 Navier-Stokes 방정식에 기반한 전산유체역학을 이용하여 고속철도차량 객실 내 압력변동을 평가하였다. 차량 내부의 압력변동은 차내 압력변화율과 차 내외부 압력변동의 선형 관계식에 근거한 1차 차분식을 이용하여 계산되었다. 전산해석 결과, 새로운 한국형 고속철도 차량이 경부고속선 터널을 330km/h로 통과할 시 발생하는 객실 실내압 변동은 해당 차량이 기밀도 국내기준을 만족한다고 가정하였을 시 철도차량의 실내압력변동 국내 기준치를 잘 만족하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • An analysis program for the evaluation of pressure vessel integrity under pressurized thermal shock (PTS) is developed. For given material properties and transient history such as temperature and pressure, the stress distribution is calculated and then stress intensity factors are obtained for a wide range of crack sizes. The stress intensity factors are compared with the fracture toughness to check if cracking is expected to occur during the transient. Using this program a round robin problem of PTS during a small break loss of coolant transient has been analyzed as a part of the international comparative assessment study. The allowable maximum reference nil-ductility transition temperatures are determined for various crack sizes.
