  • Field measurements were carried out in this study to investigate the behavior of cut and cover tunnel such as the distribution and the magnitude of the earth pressure during back fill process of the ground material. Three kinds of measuring instruments, such as the earth pressure load cell, the concrete strain gauge and the reinforcing bar meter of embedded type in concrete structure were installed and measured. Earth pressure load cells, installed after construction of the tunnel lining, measure the outside forces acting on the tunnel lining with radial directions. Three load cells were installed at the crown, the right and the left shoulder of the tunnel, respectively. Three sets of reinforcing bar meter were installed in the double reinforcements of the tunnel lining and their locations were the same with the position of the earth pressure load cells. Concrete strain gauge was installed only one site of the upper compressive part at the tunnel crown. Based on the measuring results in the field, the deformation and the earth pressure acting on the tunnel lining were investigated with the back fill process of the ground material. Considerations on the validity of the measuring results were paid. For the analysis of measurements, after dividing back fill process into three steps, various factors which affect on the behavior of tunnel lining were investigated at each step.

  • The purpose of this study is to invent the preparation technique of the foam-floater used as a level gauge of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank under high pressure, which has not only closed pores but also has under 5 wt% changingrate in case of depositing 72 h in room-temperature LPG. In pressure-resistance and deposition experiment, the prepared foam-floaters with different sulfur (325 Mesh and 400 Mesh) and foaming agent (dinitrosopentamethylenetetramin; DPT and azodicarbonamide; AC) had a marginal difference in its weight changing-rate. However, the prepared floater with sulfur 400 Mesh and the foaming agent AC had smaller pores and higher closed pore-rate. Under $50kg_f/cm^3$ hydraulic pressure, the floater with medium thermal (MT) carbon showed a lower weight changing-rate than semi reinforcing furnace (SRF) carbon. Providing a post-treatment to the prepared floater, the hardness and the pressure-resistance of the inner pore-wall of floater were increased. Prepared floaters having a specific gravity below 0.30 were distorted and broken, and other floaters with a specific gravity above 0.35 were not useful as a floater because of the low buoyancy. Therefore, it was considered that the floaters with a specific gravity between 0.3~0.35 are the most useful as a floater under $50kg_f/cm^3$ pressure-resistance.

  • In order to reduce NOx emissions in the 20kw class microturbines under development, the low NOx characteristics, as being an application to the lean premixed combustion technology, have been investigated. The study has been conducted at the conditions of high temperature and pressure. Air from a compressor with the temperature of 500K to 650K and the pressure of 0.3bar gauge to 0.7bar gauge, was supplied to the combustor through an air preheat-treatment. Sampling exhaust gases were measured at the immediate exit of the combustor. for the effect of temperature on NO and CO emissions. though NOx was increased, CO was decreased with increasing inlet air temperature. With increasing inlet air pressure, NOx and CO were increased also. NOx was decreased, but CO was increased with increasing inlet air mass flow rate. The test has been performed on the equivalent ratios of 0.10 to 0.25 in a lean region. NOx was increased with increasing equivalent ratios, but CO was decreased as an influence of flame temperature. In the very lean region of the equivalent ratio below 0.12, CO was increased suddenly, due to instability. As the results of this study, NOx and CO are found to be reduced to the similar level at the same time when operated at optimal conditions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the current study was to determine the intra- and inter-rater reliability of muscle thickness measurement of the TA using ultrasonography (US) conducted at different inward pressures of approximately 0.5 kg, 1.0 kg, and no pressure control. Methods: Twenty healthy subjects were recruited for this study. Two different examiners measured the thicknesses of the dominant TA of each subject randomly to assess the intra- and inter-rater reliability. The measurement values were analyzed using the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) with a 95% confidence interval, standard error of measurement, minimal detectable change, and coefficient of variance. Results: All intra-rater reliability ICC values showed high reliability above 0.9. Inter-rater reliability ICC values showed high reliability above 0.9 with 0.5 and 1.0 kg of inward pressure. In contrast, Inter-rater reliability ICC values showed poor reliability (0.23) with no pressure control of inward pressure. Conclusion: The findings showed that maintaining consistent inward pressure is essential for reliable results when the muscle thickness of the TA is measured by different examiners in a clinical setting.

  • The Ultrasonic Interferometer Manometer(UIM) which can calibrae from1 Pa to $10^5$Pa has been developed, and its uncertainty is evaluated less than $\pm$(30ppm of pressure+12mPa). We can calibrate Capacitance Diaphragm Gauge(DCG) used as a transfer standard gauge in the low vacuum field. TheUIM enables to maintain the measurement traceability for industries. In order to improve the UIM's accracy, we will perform the international intercomparison withother national standards laboratories.

  • This paper describes on the fabrication and characteristics of a ceramic thin-film pressure sensor based on Ta-N strain gauges for harsh environment applications. The Ta-N thin-film strain gauges are sputter deposited onto a micromachined Si diaphragms with buried cavity for overpressure protectors. The proposed device takes advantages of the good mechanical properties of single crystalline Si as diaphragms fabricated by SDB and electrochemical etch-stop technology, and in order to extend the operating temperature range, it incorporates relatively the high resistance, stability and gauge factor of Ta-N thin-films. The fabricated pressure sensor presents a low temperature coefficient of resistance, high sensitivity, low non-linearity and excellent temperature stability. The sensitivity is $1.097{\sim}1.21mV/V{\cdot}kgf/cm^2$ in the temperature range of $25{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ and the maximum non-linearity is 0.43 %FS.

  • A dynamic flow system has been developed which can be used for vacuum gauge calibration by comparison method - a calibration method in which the reading of the gauge under calibration is compared to another calibrated vacuum gauge called the "secondary standard" - and other vacuum-related experiments. The chamber of the calibration system is pumped by a turbomolecular pump (TMP), backed by a scroll pump. As maximum acceptable pressure at the inlet of a TMP is 0.1 Pa, above which the TMP decelerates, the pumping speed decreases and it becomes more difficult to adjust pressure under such circumstances. In the present work, high pressures of up to 133 Pa have been generated in the chamber of the newly developed dynamic flow control system by installing a well-designed conductance-reducer in the by-pass line and, at the same time, operating the TMP in safe mode. In addition, the gas flow and pressure distribution within the chamber have been investigated for the entire pressure range (0.1 Pa ~ 133 Pa) while generating pressure dynamically. Maximum deviations in pressure (1.6 %) were observed at point C on the chamber, which is close to the gas inlet port on the top of the chamber.

  • The Navier-Stokes equations with variable density are challenging problems in numerical analysis community. We recently built the 2nd order stabilized Gauge-Uzawa method [SGUM] to solve the Navier-Stokes equations with constant density and have estimated theoretically optimal accuracy. Also we proved that SGUM is unconditionally stable. In this paper, we apply SGUM to the Navier-Stokes equations with nonconstant variable density and find out the stability condition of the algorithms. Because the condition is rather strong to apply to real problems, we consider Allen-Cahn scheme to construct unconditionally stable scheme.
