Pressure Effects on Zircaloy-4 Steamside Corrosion and Hydrogen Pick-up

  • Experiments on the steamside corrosion and hydrogen pick-up of Zircaloy-4 under high pressure up to 10.3MPa are carried out to estimate the pressure effects on the kinetics. Temperature and reaction time are determined to be 37$0^{\circ}C$ and 72hours for the pre-transition test and $700^{\circ}C$ and 210minutes for the post-transition test, respectively. Results show that under 10.3MPa pressure the oxidation reaction is 50% and 100% enhanced in the pre-and the post-transition regime, respectively. Total amount of hydrogen uptake in the reaction is proportionally increased as corrosion weight gain is elevated. However, pick-up fraction is not affected by the high pressure. The fraction is almost twice greater than that in the waterside corrosion. Edges in the specimens play a certain role in the enhancement, especially in the post-transition regime. To identify physical property changes of oxide film such as micro-cracks or micro-pores, careful and thorough examination must be needed with some special techniques.

  • This study presents a genetic algorithm-based method fur optimizing control parameters in the pressure control of electro-hydraulic pump with variable displacement. Genetic algorithms are general-purpose optimization methods based on natural evolution and genetics and search the optimal control parameters maximizing a measure that evaluates the performance of a system. Four control gains of the PI-PD cascade controller for an electro-hydraulic pressure control system are optimized using a genetic algorithm in the experiment. Optimized gains are confirmed by inspecting the fitness distribution which represents system performance in gain spaces. It is shown that genetic algorithm is an efficient scheme in optimizing control parameters of the pressure control of electro-hydraulic pump with variable displacement.

Numerical Model Simulation of DF-CO$_2$ Transfer Chemical Laser

  • Theoretical analysis of DF-$CO_2$ transfer chemical laser is performed through simple kinetic model consisting of 30 chemical reactions. In this model, we calculate the power theoretically by solving the rate equations, which are related to the $D_2\;+\;F_2$ chain reaction and the DF-$CO_2$ resonance energy transfer, combined with both the gain processes and the stimulated emission processes. The calculated powers are verified with previously reported results in good agreements. The output energy rises linearly with the increase in pressure, and the duration time of output pulse show the inverse dependence on pressure. Through the detailed calculation of temperature and concentrations of reactants as a function of time, it is found that the deactivation processes of DF(v) can be neglected in low pressure, but they have to be considered in high pressure. From the parametric study for the variation on [$D_2]/[F_2$] and [$CO_2]/[D_2\;+\;F_2$] at several constant total pressure, the optimum lasing conditions are found to be in a range of 1/3 to 1 and 2 to 4, respectively.

  • In the present study, we aim to use nanotechnology sensors/actuators to capture pressure and frequency of voice singers and to send signals for improving breathing pressure. In this regard, a circular composite structure having 3 different layers are used. The core layer is nano-composite material reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets. The face sheets are piezo electric materials connected to electrical circuit capable of measuring and applying voltage to the piezoelectric layers. This sensors have extremely smaller size than conventional sensors attached to the neck of singer and, hence, minimizes the influences on the output voice of the singer. A brief theoretical framework are presented for nonlocal strain gradient theory and geometry of the sensor is described in detail. The controlling procedure along with experimental results on 20 amateur and professional singer participants are also presented. The results of the study indicate that the participants could gain benefit from the device for improving their ability in phonation and keeping their frequency at a constant level although they have difficulty in the beginning of the experiment getting used to the device.

The Effect of Rotation of Discharge Hole on the Discharge Coefficient and Pressure Coefficient (송출공의 회전이 송출계수와 압력계수에 미치는 영향)

  • Pressure coefficient in rotating discharge hole was measured to gain insight into the influence of rotation to the discharge characteristics of rotating discharge hole. Pressure measurements were done by the telemetry system that had been developed by the authors. The telemetry system measures static pressure using piezoresistive pressure sensors. Pressure coefficients in rotating discharge hole were measured in longitudinal direction and circumferential direction with various rotating speed and 3 pressure ratios. From the results, the pressure coefficient, and therefore the discharge coefficient, is known to decrease with the increase of Ro number owing to the increase of flow approaching angle to the discharge hole inlet. However, there exists critical Ro number where the decrease rate of discharge coefficient with the increase of Ro number changes abruptly; flow separation occurs from the discharge hole exit at this critical Ro number. Critical Ro number increases with the increase of length-to-diameter ratio, but the increase is small where the length-to-diameter ratio is higher than 3. The decrease rate of discharge coefficient with the increase of Ro number depends on the pressure recovery at the discharge hole, and the rate is different from each length-to-diameter ratio; it has tendency that the short discharge hole shows higher decrease rate of discharge coefficient.

  • This paper describes an approach for synthesizing a Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) that combines the benefits of fuzzy logic control and fuzzy logic gain scheduling for the F/A-18 aircraft. Specially, fuzzy rules are utilized on-line to determine the denoralization factor(Κ) of a feedback fuzzy controller based on the dynamic pressure(Q) indicateing the region of the flight envelop the aircraft is operating in. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed FLC provides excellent compensation for time-varying and/or nonlinear characteristics of the aircraft, and that it also exhibits satisfactory robustness with noisy air data sensors.

  • Recently, there are deep and much concerns about the objective assessment of diagnosis in Oriental Medicine. Among them, pulse diagnostics is used for the quantitative device of diagnosis. The objective research of pulse diagnosis were mainly conducted by pulse wave. So it is important to gain multi-information for the quantification of pulse diagnosis. We report the development of pulse diagnostic apparatus enable to gain the multi-information, detect the pressure pulse wave in conku(寸口) area and obtain the gradient curve and original pulse wave simultaneously, and consider the pulse wave with the traditional pulse diagnosis at the same time.

  • In this paper a self-tuning gain-scheduled skyhook control for semi-active suspension systems is investigated. The dynamic characteristics of a continuously variable damper including electro-hydraulic pressure control valves is analyzed. A 2-d.o.f. time-varying quarter-car model that permits variations in sprung mass and suspension spring coefficient is considered. The self-tuning skyhook control algorithm proposed in this paper requires only the measurement of body acceleration. The absolute velocity of the sprung mass and the relative velocity of the suspension deflection are estimated by using integral filters.   • This paper attempts to explain why the prescribing-dispensing services are not seperated in Korea. The main reason why physicians and pharmacists do not compromise, even though the two parties support the seperation policy in public, is contended to be that both parties would lose their interests if the policy were implemented. Physicians' loss from giving up their vested rights to dispensing would be larger than their gain from an increase in the number of prescriptions. Pharmacists' loww from being forced not to to sell medicines without prescriptions would also be larger than their gain from prohibiting physicians from dispensing. The net ganier form the seperation policy would be the patients. Therefore, the seperation policy would not be implemented unless political pressure from general public surpasses that from physicians and pharmacists.

Active Suspension using Disturbance Accommodating Sliding Mode Control (능동 현가 장치의 외란 적응 슬라이딩 모드 제어)

  • This paper presents a disturbance accommodating sliding mode control for a quarter-car active suspension using an electro-hydraulic actuator. The electro-hydraulic actuator model is nonlinear and uncertain. The hardware constrains on the actuator prevent high gain in a sliding mode control, which deteriorates the force tracking performance. DAC(Disturbance Accommodating Control) is combined with the sliding mode control to improve the tracking performance. DAC observer estimates the pressure due to the actuator uncertainty. The additional control is designed to compensate the estimated pressure. Simulation results show the improved tracking performance with the Proposed control methods.
