The purpose of this study is to investigate attitude factor related to hearing conservation and to find attitude affecting the preventive behavior for hearing conservation. The research method used in this study was self-administered questionnaire. Samples of the study were composed of 353 workers exposed noise selected randomly in 10 ship-building manufacturing companies. Authors extracted following 9 factors related hearing conservation from 26 attitude propositions prepared from previous study results and health belief model; (1) general perceived susceptibility, (2) relative perceived susceptibility compared with colleagues, (3) concern to the personal protective devices, (4) perceived severity and concern to the hearing capacity, (5) concern to the hearing and noise assessment, (6) concern to the control noise and hearing conservation, (7) group pressure and reason of wearing protective devices, (8) apathy of hearing loss from noise, (9) knowledge about hearing conservation. Attitude factors affecting the preventive health behavior were general perceived susceptibility, concern to the noise control and hearing conservation, and concern to the personal protective devices in the case of wearing personal protective devices. But in the case of avoiding noise exposure as preventive health behavior, perceived severity and concern to the hearing capacity was a significant attitude factor with knowledge about hearing conservation.

The present study deals with numerical flow analysis to investigate the effect of sweep and lean on the performance characteristics of a partial admission supersonic turbine. The flow analysis was performed for three different angles. The angles of sweep and lean are $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$. The results of the flow analysis showed that the efficiency is improved as the sweep angle is increased. However, a sweep angle of $5^{\circ}$ was less effective in comparison with the baseline model. The total pressure loss was reduced as the lean angle is increased, but the total to static efficiency was decreased.

The flow through a centrifugal compressor impeller was calculated using the 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes solution method. A control volume method based on a rotating curvilinear coordinate system was used to solve the time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, and a standard k-.epsilon. model was used to obtain eddy viscosity. Numerical results and experimental data were compared for the overall performance of the impeller, the pressure distributions along the shroud wall and the detailed flowfields at the design and off-design conditions, which showed good coincidence. The flow through the impeller is complex with the curvature of the streamlines and rotation. The development of secondary flows and the jet-wake flow characteristics, which is the main source of flow loss, was discussed. Calculation results show quite different patterns as the flow rate changes.

Oil-film surface flow visualizations and three-dimensional flow measurements using a straight five-hole probe have been conducted for a circular impinging jet which is normally oriented to the crossflow in a channel. Throughout the experiments, the ratio of channel height to injection hole diameter, H/D, is fixed to be 1.0, and blowing ratio is varied to be 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0. From the surface flow visualizations for both top wall(target plate) and bottom wall, impinging jet region on the target plate can be clearly identified, and for the small value of H/D = 1.0, presence of the bottom wall changes the near-hole flow structure, significantly. The three-dimensional flow measurements show that in the dawnstream region of the injection hole, there exist a pair of counter-rotating vortices, called "scarf vortices", and the strength of the vortices strongly depends on the blowing ratio. In addition, a new flow model in the flow symmetry plane has been proposed for H/D = 1.0.
Procedures and results of aerodynamic design of a centrifugal compressor are presented for development of a 40kW class turbogenerator gas turbine. Specification of higher level of total pressure ratio of 4 and total efficiency of $80\%$ requires advanced methods of design and analysis. In the meanline design/analysis, a method with conventional loss modeling and a method with the two-zone model are alternately used for more reliable prediction. In the impeller blade generation, a series of Bezier curve are combined to produce meridional contours and distributions of blade camber angle and blade thickness. Intermediate profiles of blades are repeatedly produced and changed to be finally fixed through quasi-three dimensional Euler flow analysis. Three dimensional compressible turbulent flow analysis is then performed for the impeller to be confirmed in the final step of design. Satisfactory results in the aerodynamic performance are obtained, which assures that there is no need of aerodynamic re-design.
A numerical simulation is carried out to investigate the effect of flow rate variation and performance characteristics of double-suction centrifugal pump. Two types of pump which have different impeller inlet breadth and curvature of the shroud line consist of six blades impeller and shroud ring. Finite-volume method with structured mesh and $k-\omega$ Shear Stress Transport turbulence model was used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. Total head, power and overall efficiency were calculated to obtain performance characteristics of two types of pump according to the variation of flow rate. From the results, impeller having smooth curve along the shroud line obtained good performance. The lower flow rate, the more circulation region, flow unsteadiness and complicate flow pattern are observed. Complicated internal flow phenomena through impellers such as flow separation, pressure loss, flow unsteadiness and performance are investigated and discussed.

The pulverized coal combustion behavior in the utility boiler is very complex since so many physical and chemical processes happen in it, simultaneously. The mixing of pulverized coal with combustion air plays an important role in achieving the efficient combustion and stable boiler operation. The distribution of combustion air supplied to the furnace through the windbox damper system has not been clearly known since the individual measurements of air flow for each air nozzle were not possible, yet. The present study describes the CFD modelling of windbox damper system and aims to obtain the air flow rates and pressure loss coefficients across the present five damper systems, respectively. The one dimensional flow network model has been also established to get air flow distributions across the windbox damper, and applied to the actual plant operation condition. Compared with the designed air flow distribution, the modelled one gives a reasonable agreement. For the actual plant operation, the predicted air flow distribution at each air nozzle is differed with the designed data and strongly affected by the individual opening angle.
The optimization for the water bath design and the skimmer installation are conducted to separate floated-sludge from the waste water in a water bath of a painting booth. VOF(volume of fluid) model is used to analyze the flow pattern of sludge-water-air mixture in a water bath. From the results of numerical analysis, the design criteria of the skimmer, the separation plate and the sludge inlet port of a water bath are obtained for effective sludge separation from water in bath. Furthermore, the installation condition of the skimmer immersed in water is optimized to minimize entrained air and pressure loss.
Centrifugal compressors are widely used and each operating condition is different. However, it cannot be manufactured according to the every operating condition. In the this study, performance of compressor was evaluated with various rotational speeds of impeller and various stagger angles of diffuser in order to apply a typical model widely. A centrifugal compressor was designed and manufactured based on the design point. On this machines, an experiment was conducted and the performance was predicted at off-design point. The performance prediction was validated with the experimental result and the numerical result. Although the isentropic efficiency on the prediction was slightly lower than that on the experimental result due to the heat loss in the experiment, the pressure ratio was predicted well and also the predicted results were matched well with the numerical results. When the rotational speed of the impeller and the stagger angle of the diffuser were changed together, the compressor can be worked in the high efficiency region and avoided operating in the stall region.

In order to enhance the dynamic and interactive simulation capability of a system thermal hydraulic code for nuclear power plant, applicability of flow network models in SINDA/FLUIN $T^{™}$ has been tested by modeling feedwater system and coupling to DSNP which is one of a system thermal hydraulic simulation code for a pressurized heavy water reactor. The feedwater system is selected since it is one of the most important balance of plant systems with a potential to greatly affect the behavior of nuclear steam supply system. The flow network model of this feedwater system consists of condenser, condensate pumps, low and high pressure heaters, deaerator, feedwater pumps, and control valves. This complicated flow network is modeled and coupled to DSNP and it is tested for several normal and abnormal transient conditions such turbine load maneuvering, turbine trip, and loss of class IV power. The results show reasonable behavior of the coupled code and also gives a good dynamic and interactive simulation capabilities for the several mild transient conditions. It has been found that coupling system thermal hydraulic code with a flow network code is a proper way of upgrading simulation capability of DSNP to mature nuclear plant analyzer (NPA).
